  • There are a couple of processes that will make a huge difference to the quality of your beer: cleaning and sanitisation; temperature control and water quality. Getting good quality water is relatively cheap and easy, and will make a big change to your brewing.

Agree wholeheartedly. RO will get you very close. 90%+. Distilled even better. Then water additions to dial it in.

I'm RO'ing tank water which is pretty clean to start with. my TDS meter says 1ppm for the RO, so that's close enough for me.

Up a notch?? You'll jump up 2 or 3 notches in quality, if you pay mind to pH as well. Just discovered your channel a month ago. Really like it. But yeah, my hard head tried to use my tap water for years, almost gave up the hobby. Dove into profile building, what an improvement!!

Well the first 2 brews are in the fermenter so it’s only a week or so before I get to taste it. I did notice a difference in pH, both batches have been in the 5.15 - 5.2 range before adjustment.

Agree, it's definitely worth it. RO/Distilled water with added salts according to a water profile fitting the beer style was the biggest qualifty jump in my homebrew. Similar to fermentation with proper temperature control.

Yes, there are 4 basic processes you need to get control of... cleaning/sanitisation, temperature control, yeast health and water quality. They all make a massive difference.

I don't expect I'll have to, I'll be running a few hundred litres through it every week, so there'll be regular flow. I'll be doing weekly TDS tests to make sure it is operating to spec.

Worried about increasing the tds concentration in your tank by sending the waste back in?

Not really, it’s pretty low to start with, and those tanks are mostly used for watering the garden. They hold about 40,000 litres between them.
