Thrunite Catapult Pro vs Olight Warrior X Turbo - Long Comparison Light Review

  • Long comparison review of the Thrunite Catapult Pro vs Olight Warrior X Turbo. Even though they look very different, many of the features and technical details are very similar. I start off with a tabletop review of both lights followed up with the outside comparison portion of both lights. Even though I'm a big fan of both brands/lights... if I had to choose between the two, I'd have to spend my money on the Catapult Pro over the Warrior X Turbo.

    Excellent review! Just received the Thrunite Catapult Pro yesterday--awesome light! I think that--aside from the tail switch--the Thrunite outshines the Olight in this comparison.
    Olight makes beautiful lights, but I stopped buying them when they went to the proprietary (magnetic) charging system. Olight recently started selling lights that not only have the proprietary charging, but non-removable batteries as well, which carries the potential of completely stranding the user without a working flashlight. Not a risk I want to take.

    I have the Olight and the Thrunite is due to arrive tomorrow. Glad I bought it to add to the collection. I already have 3 of the earlier Catapult V6s, one the SST70 with the 4th (Pro) arriving tomorrow. I also have 5 of the TC20s now including the PRO. Thrunite does very well on those two models IMO. Thanks for the review! Love the beam shots. Really shows a lot and help the viewer to compare.

    Im a big tail switch fan on any light, always know where on/off is. FYI - the Olights 150 lumen will be a half press on the switch, but I much prefer the Thrunites beam pattern, bigger hot spot and bit of spill.

  • @squirts1
    @squirts1 Рік тому +4

    It's a crenelated bezel, not a "self defense" bezel. There are practical reasons for them, but it's obviously personal preference. One use case (arguably the primary) is seeing light seep out of the gaps between a flat surface and the crenellations. Whether that is just so you can see if it's on, or to give a very small amount of spill light on a table top without the intensity of the hotspot. The next reason being primarily aesthetic. Realistically, that type of crenellation is not for striking a person.

    • @georgedavall9449
      @georgedavall9449 Рік тому

      Good comment dude, and right on! I wouldn’t have a light without some level of crenelation on the bezel. Peace

    • @georgedavall9449
      @georgedavall9449 Рік тому

      I failed to mention, Olight states it is a “strike bezel,” in their literature.

    • @wadepage5823
      @wadepage5823 Рік тому

      Agreed, though whether it's made as a strike weapon or not I'd hate to be on the receiving end of a head or face strike with that crenulated bezel.

    The Thru Nite seems to be the best one. A nice throw, and good spill ! All my lights use the same type battery i.e. "AA"/14500, 18650/CR123. Blame the military for teaching redundancy and interchangeability.... LoL. Over the past 12 months I've picked up a couple of Wuben's (C-3 - 18650 & 2 CR123 - 1200lu) and (E-6 - 14500, 900lu & "AA" 450lu) The E-6 has a much better throw. Also a couple of Sofirn's (SC31T 18650, 2,000lu. Also runs on 2 CR123) and (SP10V3, 14500 1,000 Lu /"AA" 500lu). The SC31T has a good throw and spill. The SP10V3 has not much throw at all, but a wide & bright spill - both types of batteries. My favs are the Wuben E-6 and Sofirn SC31T. Only detractor on the little Wuben Is having to remove the battery to charge it.
    Just curious, what kind of comms, if any, do you have for field use ?

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Рік тому +1

      If by comms you mean external microphone for my camera, I have the Rode Wireless GO II but it’s only been used once. When I had my Canon G7x Mark II the onboard microphone was amazing, no external mic needed. I now use my iPhone for all video and again just use the onboard mic. I own a Canon RP but it’s only used for pictures, no video. The one time I tested it for video with the RODE Wireless Go it worked perfectly.

      I recently got Catapult pro and noticed it's the same as with my other Thrunite 26650 lights: that the battery needs to be pretty full charged to provide full turbo level.
      Do you have any tip of higher current drain 26650 batteries?

    • @66marbor
      @66marbor Рік тому +1

      @@patricj951 I haven't bought one yet but a better battery will get turbo going at lower volts. I used a astrolux 21700 28A at low v and it still provided the turbo. The battery thrunite includes is supposed to be 20A but it's sub par. I'd get one with 30A discharge or a good 20A like vapcell., lito Kala, shockli...There are others but off the top of my head I can't think....if it's good for a vape it'll be good for your pro. ✌️

    Dude, no contest Thrunite beats the ever lovin heck out of Olight. Disregard the same Candela rate (more important than lumens), discount the longer run time of useful light on the Thrunite. Just consider that the Thrunite can be charged With Out proprietary cables, you can even take the standard Lion battery out of the flashlight and charge it in a stand alone charger. Why am I harping on that proprietary Olight battery? Because in my experience Olight proprietary do not last as long as quality standard Lion cells. Oh and your beam shots prove that the Thrunite is superior beam.
