    I agree, very good. They have 2 improvements left to make:
    1. Recess the side switch more, or make the switch have a longer press so it can't accidently come on.
    2. When it comes on in moonlight with a side press, the flashlight should then be able to ramp up from there, at this moment you can ONLY access the moonlight.
    Do these and it would be perfect, but still its very very good for the price.

      Br you are spot on with your comment! They also need to make the rubber charge port better because when people pull it out of their pocket it tends to catch and the rubber piece pops open! I love your channel as well!

    Good to see your clear excitement and enthusiasm in the video about this... Its very nice to find something which really hits the spot and fulfill our wants and needs for something we like/enjoy/carry.
    I think us into hobbies like these are very particular and have attention to detail, so the little features such as access to turbo but then also the ultra low mode for the little day to day tasks we are doing... They really do matter and make or break the user experience.
    This definitely looks like a very good example of a well thought out torch with us fussy nerds in mind.

    ive bought 3 of these because theyre such a good bang for the buck. For some reason it really stands its ground with some of my dedicated weapon light, specifically the weltool LH8 head and the Malkoff Devices E2XTL head. All are ran off of 18650 and the TN12 PRO still just makes such a good light and im probably going to continue to buy them till I cant anymore. These definitly run better on the Surefire 3500mah batteries

    Thanks to your videos, I’ve recently picked up a t14c since I live in a pretty sketchy area. With that I had to get a smaller micro stream for all other uses. Totally worth it for a self defense light. Thank you, sir for taking the time to help us all out.

      Thanks for the comment Tim. In my opinion, the T14C is the holy grail of mixture between candela and lumens. The candela is just enough to be blinding, but not too much that the hot spot is too small. That coupled with the cool white and single output makes it a great stunning tool. Good choice man.

    My son is also hyper vigilant and so I bought him a decent torch for pretty much the same reason. To avoid people and if he can't, to stun them and run away. He is a black belt but if you can avoid shit it's always better. As a female a good torch is a pretty good self defence option for me too. It just helps create a bit of distance between you and the assailant.

    When I got into law enforcement, I purchased the original TN12 not the Pro which I still use on my duty belt. I recently purchased the TN12 Pro. I would say that using the Pro for law enforcement purposes is not a good choice. Thrunite changed the function on the side button on the TN12 Pro from the TN12 which now activate the light by pressing that button on the side of that light. The original TN12 side button functioned differently. When I first got the TN12 Pro, I put it in my flash light holder on my duty belt. When inserting the TN12 Pro into my flashlight holder, the side button would always depress against my flashlight holder and it would turn the light on which could potentially light me up allowing other people to see me. I noticed when I put the flashlight into any pocket, it would also depress the side button and turn that light on. I ended up using the pocket clip and attaching the TN12 Pro to the outside of my tactical vest. I do have to be careful not to bump the side button and accidentally turned the light on and giving up my position. I do understand there is a lockout mode on the TN12 Pro but when seconds matter in a serious situation, I don’t have times to disable the lockout mode so I can turn the light back on. I hope Thrunite makes a flashlight which is more law enforcement user friendly like the original TN12. I do like that the TN12 Pro has immediate turbo mode by pressing the rear button but my belief is until Thrunite makes some changes to the functionality of the side button, try to find an original TN12 or find a different option, if the use is not Law Enforcement or tactical purposes.

      Wow man, thanks so much for that detailed comment.
      Please tune in for my Self-defence video using a torch, I would love your opinion. The video is not going to be out until i receive a few more lights to use in it, but it is based on actual experiences i have had where a torch has been the difference between serious trouble and escape/defend.
      It is not going to be one of those "let me show you what to do and become a master martial artist in a 20 min video" it is going to be more of a conversation about the state of mind most of us default to in a high-stress situation, and what to do mentally to prepare yourself for acting quickly where (as you said) seconds count.

      Cheers

      My hope is in future version changes with the TN12 Pro the manufacturer Thrunite will address the side button issue and change the functionality of the side button back to the functionality of the original TN12 or recess that button further down into the body of the torch so the side button is not flush with or or does not slightly stick out from the body of the torch so that button is less likely to be depressed accidentally causing the torch to light up. I’m looking forward to seeing more videos from you.

      This is why I like my fenix pd35 v3. Set it and forget it. Also… the side button is very shallow and subdued by the heat sinks in front and back of this area.
      Even the tail switch from the back has the tail switch a bit lower than the flanges around it.
      The only thing it does not have it duel contact springs in the battery compartment contact areas. But I’ve dropped my light like 8 times now from waist height and now and no flickers or misfire with light. 100 solid

    • @aquasound-escapes898
      @aquasound-escapes898 Рік тому +1

      @@danmettie36191 more thing. The side switch on the pd35 v3 is completely disabled until you physically click the tail switch on.
      For tactical users this is preferred because there is no way to accidentally turn the light on.
      The only way you could turn the light on by bumping the tail switch which is slightly protruded from tail flanges. In this case I would holster the light face down.
      Both lights awesome. I bought both, wife said 1 has to go back 😅 so I did a quick comparison and chose to keep the pd35 v3.
      Both literally have the same led, same dimensions, candela rating. Both are really good lights.

    When I first saw this and looked up the price on Amazon I was quite excited, then I read the reviews... many people saying how it overheats and also stops working after a short time plus other issues like the thing turning on by itself and draining the battery. The one star rating is 16% which is huge for any product. I'm not saying this for any sort of sarcasm, I really thought I'd finally found my first EDC torch for self defence and was excited to get it, but after seeing that feedback I have to keep looking.

    The SFT40 LED is such a good LED. The combination of high efficiency and 2000+ lumens output driven hard is what makes this emitter so good, whether it's paired with a TIR or a SMO reflector. With a good boost driver and regulation, you get a light like this Thrunite that becomes an amazing duty light. And depending on the reflector, you can make this a great general purpose flood light or an amazing thrower. The more shallow reflector of the TN12P just so happens to find the sweet spot of flood+throw combo with the SFT-40.... Thanks for the great review!

    This is very similar to the light I built with a driver that has the, “Dr Jones”, interface. In my driver they call it short cycle memory. I can program it to have numerous modes. To cycle through them you use half presses with only a slight pause. After I settle on a mode, it uses that mode every time it’s turned on. But the short cycle memory works so that no matter what mode have stopped at for more that I think a half second or a second, a half press will take me back to low.
    I love this interface as I rarely use high or turbo. So the Thrunite interface seems fantastic. This is as close as I’ve seen to the Dr Jones anywhere else.
    This may be my next bedside light instead of the Warrior Mini 3.
    Thank you!!

    2 weeks after getting my TN12 Pro. I love the beam profile (even though it does not look as crisp and tight as yours does in your vids) and I love the UI. However, even though I got mine Several months after you , mine has the protruding side button. This turns the flashlight onto Memory mode with just the slightest brush or bump.Impossible to pocket carry unless you "Lock it out" which makes it totally worthless as a self defense carry light. I opened a live chat on Thrunite's webpage. The first reply I got was that TN12's are discontinued, the next, (different person) suggested I buy a 659 Lumen Saber AA battery light. SO, I'm buying only Wuurkos, Sofirn, Convoy , Acebeam or Fenix, but never Thrunite again

      @@Mike-gm8uu I have months ago purchased a Wurkkos FC12 and a Sofirn SP35T. both have excellent tactical UI. Tailswitch only activation, straight to turbo, sideswitch cannot turn the light on. I carried both for a couple months but the Sofirn is the only one I have carried everyday for 2-3 months now with never a single accidental activation in my pocket--I had several with the TN12. The SP35T has 3800 lumen turbo and the XHP50B emitter throws a much bigger hotspot than most other "tactical" lights so blinding both eyes on a would be attacker at critical range is a much higher likelihood. There is also ZERO chance of it coming on at any other level than full turbo.

      That I disagree on. I ordered 2 lights for my birthday. A thrunite tn12 pro and a fenix pd35 v3.
      First thing I checked was candela on turbo for both lights;
      They both have equal candela power. To me, this detail was most important.
      Now the moonlight low on the tn12 pro is more of a true moonlight low than the fenix.
      In my opinion, both lights stack up almost equal BUT the thrunite has more versatility with instant access to turbo, last set mode brightness and moon light mode.
      BUT
      To me, even still, the fenix pd35 v3 just has a stupid, simple solid User interface where U set the brightness for your intended use and it’s a… “set it forget it type light.
      And the quality of the fenix, the aesthetics of the light seem a cut above thrunite.
      They are both the same in all dimensions literally. Both great lights I’m just in favor of the fenix light and sent the thrunite back.

    I'm on the market as well for this kind of light.
    These are the 3 major options right now, w.r.t EDC/"tactical" light, slim enough to carry in a pocket comfortably:
    1. Fenix PD35 (or the slightly more hefty PD36). Pros: excellent/best build quality, regulated(!). Cons: UI is more EDC than tactical - all modes are memorized so if you want turbo you have to remember to set it to turbo beforehand.
    2. Thrunite TN12 Pro, reviewed here. Pros: Cheaper, Candela, UI. Cons: unregulated, flimsy usb flap.
    3. Wurkkos FC12 (newer version, with tactical UI): Pros: Cheapest, same intensity, direct access to both turbo and moonlight. Cons: unregulated, and, depends on your preferences - two group UI, one for EDC another for tactical use. In the tactical interface single click is turbo but rapid double click gets you strobe, which might be annoying and unintended, some driver hiccups (in EDC mode).

    I've had one for quite awhile. It's okay, but I have many lights that I prefer. My biggest complaint is that I do not like the rubber charging port cover, it never stays in place and I constantly have to fit it back into place. It's a nice light, but that one thing is annoying. I don't have a large collection, but others that I own that I prefer: Surefire edc2-dft, Cloud Defense MCH-EDC, Zebralight, Malkoff M61HOT. In the US this is $46 for the Black one, for that price it's good.

    I feel the exact same way about this light, as it seems to tick all the boxes for a combined EDC/tactical/SHTF torch. The direct access to the moonlight mode is certainly not unique, but to me is essential for the extended runtimes and is something that Fenix rarely provides. The back switch being momentary or full on to turbo is also essential for a torch that could be used as a defensive tool. The high candela from the SFT40 emitter and the price being so competitive were the icing on the cake. The only concern is a possible question mark over reliability, as I bought a second which was DOA.
    Another small gripe I have with Thrunite torches over the last few years (and some other makes) is the much reduced output in strobe mode - this to me makes absolutely no sense! However because of the easy access to turbo, this is no big deal on this torch.
    I also purchased a Acebeam L35, as it has essentially the same UI, with direct moonlight and direct turbo only from the rear switch - just with more output and more throw, although the increased head size makes it only really jacket pocketable.
    If you are interested in a compact thrower (1000m) then the Thrunite Catapult Pro is a great option and has replaced my Acebeam K70 in the collection. I certainly dont need to see 100om, but to me the point is seeing maybe 200m or so while using relatively little power compared to a light when run on turbo. Anyway, congrats on producing high quality content, all the best from the UK.
    PS a couple of other UA-cam flashlight channels that I think are worth checking out if you haven't already are SRD Lights (also from Aus) and Flashaholic (see his Thrunite Catapult Pro vid)

    I have two earlier versions of the Tn12 and they have both worked perfectly, no problems to speak of; my issue with the Tn12 Pro is the side switch, the side switch has very little resistance and due to this fact it constantly comes on in my pocket, I find the light basically unable to be carried due to this problem. If you don’t plan to carry the light in your pocket you might be ok but this makes this light a no go for me personally. It’s unfortunate.

    I don't mean anything bad but the TN12 Pro is unregulated which means that its output will continue to drop as the battery voltage drops so it probably won't always be reliable for self-defense.
    I personally use a Convoy S21B with a Osram CULPM1 which is able to sustain over 29K candela for over 2 hours and more than 57K candela on turbo.
    The only drawback of Convoy is its UI that's why I carry around 2 flashlights as EDC.

    • @flashlightcrazy
      @flashlightcrazy  Рік тому +2

      But if you get the 12 mode group on the S21B then you can choose a mode that has low and turbo or constant turbo. I have that one too and i love it.
      Thanks for your comment about the thrunite. I agree that unregulated issue is a problem. But the candela and lumens still remain enough to use as self defence in a situation at night, when our eyes have adjusted to the dark. I just make sure i charge it every night.

    • @XperiencePureness
      @XperiencePureness Рік тому +2

      @@flashlightcrazy I set my Convoy to group 11 (100%, 20%, Strobe) and turned off memory mode so it would always start on turbo whenever I turned it on and after that I could access the strobe with a double tap.
      But group 11 is not suitable for EDC because usually I only need low mode, medium or even moon mode that's why I paired Convoy S21B with Wurkkos HD15.
      I also use the 18650 battery in the Convoy S21B so I can use my HD15 as an external charger while traveling.
      Bad things can also happen during the day, especially in quiet places, that's why I prefer a regulated flashlight and based on an experiment I did on myself by looking at the flashlight from a distance of 5 meters, the Convoy S21B is still quite effective during the day.

      At that point, if that’s what I’m using my flashlight for your better off buying a high powered laser hehe lol.
      At night if I’m going anywhere I suspect to dangerous, I set my fenix pd35 v3 to turbo and forget it. It’s in my front left pocket.
      My knife is in my right front pocket.
      Like you, I’d prefer to use my light to shine on a potential attacker and tell them I’m armed. If it gets down to it I’ve thought this through;
      Potential attack scenarios:
      1. Suspect stops advancing toward me after I shine in face, turns the other way and runs away.
      A: my objective at that point would be to get to a safe area where other people are and surveillance cameras.
      2.: Suspect is either on drugs or is set on mugging me/ attacking me.
      A: this is where it gets interesting; i pull out my light from left pocket using left hand, with left hand extended all the way out out of line from my silhouette. The suspect is being drawn in to attack me from this position. Now my right hand has drawn out my knife from the right side of my body and ready to slash, stab or sever an artery when the suspect engages me with my light to the left. I CONTROL THE FIGHT WHERE HE TARGETS THE LIGHT.
      This is also effective if he has a gun. Although at this point it is better to run if he is already temporarily blinded from light and starts firing toward the light which again is OFF the LINE OF SIGHT toward my direct silhouette 👤.

    The issue with victorian legislation (control of weapons act 1990) is that if you declare anything you're carrying to be a self defense tool, it automatically becomes classed a prohibited weapon and you can be charged for carrying it. You can however have a utility item on you, and then use that as an environmental weapon when the need should arise for you to defend yourself with appropriate and proportional force. So be careful what you go declaring to police or online as to the motivations for carrying what you do. You would get in less trouble for carrying a knife so long as you had a lawful excuse for having it on you for utility, than you would carrying a small torch intended as a weapon.
    I agree this torch has many of the specs you and I are both looking for in a tactical/everyday light. For me the thing that stopped me buying the tn12 (and instead buying your old bss v5 😄) is the cool white led, which for me is just a bit prickly on the eyes, so it doesn't meet my standard for everyday use. The second is the PWM or flickering that's used on the low medium and high modes. Now I would mostly be using moonlight and turbo on a torch like this, but I'm a bit of a stickler for buying the thing that checks all the boxes. Awesome review as always and it makes me still wanna get one regardless.. It certainly has the candela needed for the job.
    P.S. that side switch issue with the bss was an isssue all day when I first got it, but it seems to have fixed itself now and doesn't get caught at all anymore. I assume the hangover plastic has filed itself off. I'm also gonna file down the strike bezel to make it more appropriate.

    Great video! I search a light for self defense and think , that the TN12 Pro might be the right one for me. The only thing, that im unsure about, is the effectiveness in daylight. Are the 36000 candela bright enough or do I need something brighter?

      36,000cd is more than enough for self-defence at night. Daytime will require an LEP

      @@flashlightcrazyIsn´t even something like the Weltool T14C with close to 80.000 cd good enough for daytime? I think the thing with LEP´s is the size of the Beam. I dont think that its verry practical if you have to aim it.

      @@ericsteinhoff4838if your looking for a light for defense during the day your not going to find it. Some LEPs are almost codified as lasers in the eyes of the law. And using lasers is against the law (assault by contact) on someone’s vision. They can absolutely sue you for using a powerful laser.
      Mace maybe? Are u guys allowed that?

    I have this flash light. I do not like it. The original tn12 is was way better. This one turn on, on its own at full blast. It can burn something next to it because it gets really hot.

    meh. just another cheap tube light. they are all more similar than dissimilar. nothing unique about this one. this is no way shape or form the "best" tactical light. did you "pick" a cheap light and a hysterical title to drive more volume to your affiliate links? cmon bro.

    • @flashlightcrazy

      I actually don't have any affilates. I never claimed this to be the best tactical light. This is (for me) the best all rounder edc/tactical light. There are plenty other tactical lights out there that beat this one. One of them is the Weltool T14C which I use as a strictly tactical light. But this Thrunite fits my description for the perfect all rounder light. I don't know what you saw from this video, but I was pretty clear about why this light fits my criteria as the perfect light. I wish i had affiliates but i have none. I bought this light. The candela rating mixed with the SFT40 LED, mixed with the Lumens make it a great self-defence light. Couple that with a .5 lumen ultra low, tail standing, memory mode out of low, med, high, and instant turbo from the tail switch....what's not perfect about that?
      Thanks for your comment but i disagree with basically everything you said. Plus you're wrong about any affiliate support. I wish i had affiliate support. Sorry to see you go. But if something like this makes you so frustrated, then this isn't the channel for you anyway.

      @@user-tc2bk7fs9j Thanks for your support brother! I am working hard but i am enjoying it - it's all about the journey!
      I still use my TN12 PRO often. My missus has kind of stolen it though as she loves it for going on her night walks. The side switch for regular use but the tail cap for turbo is a big tick for her as well.
      I am using a weltool T1 pro for my edc at the moment. Great little light. Also sometimes use my PD35R from fenix. Also an amazing light, I use it on the 10 lumen output and then have strobe for emergencies.
      Had to use strobe the other day when a car was merging into my lane. it didnt hear my beeps because of the loud music he was playing, so i hit strobe on the PD35R and he saw me and moved. Love my lights!!!

      @@flashlightcrazy ha! That’s pretty funny the driver didn’t recognize you until u hit him with the sun ☀️ light 😂 mode! Also pretty funny the misses stole your tn12pro! I will admit it is a nice light! I just had to pick between the two because my wife was angry I ordered 2 lights for my birthday. 😂
      But really both these lights are pretty freakin sweet and I consider myself pretty lucky to live in this day and age where we have the best technology at our hands.
      Most average people (90%) will go to a big box shop like wal mart or target… and if they need a light they will buy ozark trail or maglite. But it takes a specialized consumers like us to want and need the type of lights with the BIG SPECS ! 💯
