I've been a big fan of the One piece base for mounting a scope having worked at my local gun shop for years of we used the loophole One piece base then we started getting in some two-piece bases by Tally manufacturing and I got to tell you that changed my whole mindset.
Over a period of time I swapped out all of my scope rings to the two piece scope mounts from Tally manufacturing Best decision I ever made
Great info, quick and to the point, thanks.
A very concise explanation of the advantages of both methods. Thanks!
Great information, I've been trying to figure out the advantages and trade offs. Couldn't figure why anyone would want the restricted finger space but now it makes sense.
Mounting a scope on my new Savage 116, very helpful video answering a question I had. Thanks.
I'll have to turn a one-piece 20-moa picatinny into a two-piece rail -and only God knows how many moa's it'll have once it's done- just 'cause Remington can't drill their holes at the right distances. Easy to fix, sure, just shouldn't have to. Thanks for the video, glad to know there're always options and a two-piece rail isn't just some random crazy idea I had to come up with to fix Remington's lack of QC. May you all have a nice day.
Is it a Remington specific one-piece? They are specific to brand. You can’t use a Savage marked one-piece and expect it to fit perfectly on a Remington 700.
@@isaiahmarquez9717 Yes, it was clearly marked as a piece made for exactly that type and model of Remington rifle. And as such, it ended up on another, again, same model, same action type, Remington rifle, just a different caliber. The drilling was done wrong, it was bypassed with the two-piece setup, and fortunately ended up being my only issue with modern Remington products, despite the massive flak the company's been getting in the past years.
Very good item. Worked very well.
Yeah good stuff which my husband probably knows about already. Yeah it really gets cold up here. I have seen him take a rd out of the shell holder on his rifle, throw it in the chamber and make the shot. It's that easy for him.
Hi from Canada.
One piece gives you the ability to mount a brass catcher. Here in Florida it doesn't get cold enough to need thick gloves. Most modern rifles being made today are mag fed!
Good tips.
I was wondering about the top loading with a one piece rail attached.
So it's definitely doable but a little restricted? Is that correct?
Very helpful
what is the brand and/or name of that one piece mount? I wanted to know how significant the knobs in back are. Thank you
What is your opinion on steel vs aluminum mounts for long-range shooting.
I just bought a 308 Kimber rifle and would like to know what 2 base rings you recommend and scope🤔
My leupold 2 piece had the front dove tail wear out after 1 scope swap! I am a huge leupold fan, but, this is making me think WHAT THE HECK.
How to mount a night vision, scope, and a dateimh scope on one rifle to scopes one rifle
Some scopes wont fit on a 2 piece because theyre too far apart.
Hello i have a question can you use a quick detach scope on any base ? See i recently bought a henry 45 colt and after having it a couple weeks thought this wouldn't be to bad for hunting so decided i would have a scope base and quick detach scope put on in so i could use it for hunting as well as defense here on the ranch bringing stock in and bought a 350$ leopold scope and it was good but then i got thinking hey i should do the same thing to my Mossberg 464 30-30 so i could use the same scope on either gun so if i order a scope base are they all like compatible ? Any advice would be appreciated I always thought putting a scope on a lever action was a abomination and sin but the older I get the more and more I struggle seeing and counting horns here in my state the deer have to have 3 tines to be legal to shoot
What scope rings are being used to fit the weaver bases?
I prefer a one piece and my 308 is bolt action magazine fed so I’m going with one piece
Will Morris just now mounted a one piece rail on a 308 savage looks like
Should work fine
The only problem with the one piece, it only has three screws and not four. The guys the gun shop say it doesn't need four which is true until one of those screws fails, then you have two screws holding it down... I wish somebody would design the one piece bridge using all 4.
@Josh Smith I have been a 700 man for years. The leupold and millet "bridge" are 3 bolt. (Twist lock dove tail front ring- screw tite rear). 3 holes mount it down.
I have seen a 4 hole picincanty rail for some rifles, infact u have one on a savage 111, it's handy for night vision optics.
But, I haven't seen the high end Bridge with 4 screws, have you?
Great info!
I have a Winchester XPR and I'd like to use the two piece bases that came with it. Which scope rings should I use to install a Nikon Prostaff 5 3.5-14X50? Also, can I order to Portugal from your Spanish website? Thanks
I have an older Savage 22 mag. that has a dovetail rail on it and I have never been able to get a scope to hold true. The problem is that the rail is so small. Do you or anyone else have any advice on different rings that I could purchase?
Get a dovetail to picatiny adapter rail. I did that to mount night vision on my 22 rifle. Works great and holds zero perfect
What rings are those
do you send to germany ?
We do, through brownells-deutschland.de/ :)
will medium rings work for a 50 objective scope atop a picatinny rail?
I have a 50 scope with Tally modern rings on picatinny rail.
@@bradtucker8362 thanks!
lets not forget that a one piece is heavier but usually double what a two piece is. Weight matters on most guns these days so consider that.
Are you a ballerina? because they're the only people I've heard of on this planet that are worried about one or two ounces of extra weight. A two piece versus a one piece base is literally one to two ounces if that's really a problem you have problems.
@@jackdundon2261 rationalize much dumbass? To each their own though, even when they're stupid as hell.
I run Seekins rails. They are Aluminum. Very light.....
One piece mounts, even when flawless manufactured, are far from foolproof. It's not at all unusual to find that the the front and rear mounting surfaces on the rifle are not machined in perfect alignment. This can put stress on the one-piece mount, hence the tube, and introduces stress on the rifle's alignment. It can easily be tested by tightening ONE end of the mount and checking to see if the other end is raised using a .001" feeler gauge. If there is no gap, repeat the process on the other end. Any gap needs to be bedded, or the advantage of a one-piece mount becomes a liability.
FisherCatProductions really... a thousandth of an inch... bruh, that would affect absolutely nothing
