If Fifteen to One had the set of an American primetime game show, but the prize budget of an American daytime game show, you'd get Hardball. And I don't mean that as a knock.
Ore Oduba was fantastic as host.

Part of the reason is because the prize money comes from the licence fee that is paid for by UK taxpayers. And I doubt it would look good if they offered a large amount of money for their quiz shows.

@@lovemykiss9 But game shows are among the least expensive programming to produce. They’re cheaper than scripted series, news broadcasting, talk shows.... They can use some of that money to pay better prizes, especially on shows like this where most people leave with nothing.

@@drewconway7135 "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" has been in regular syndication for nearly 20 years. "The Weakest Link" also had a decent first run (both in broadcast and syndication) and is now back on NBC. THAT being said... I agree. The bells and whistles are decent, but with no studio audience, this would be a tough sell. I'd assume the prize money would go up dramatically, but I still don't see the audience for it. Maybe pair it with "The Wall" on NBC? We could have a night dedicated to balls?

Could have made it fairer for the contestant by making the square total equal the prize when divided. So if 30 squares and the contestant has made £3000, but only gets 15 then, rather than them leave with NOTNING, They at least get £1500. Or is that too much for the BBC to contemplate, ? best send the contestant home with sweet FA, I guess.

So much potential here. It’s a good concept. But current format is dull.
Game squares should have cash amounts row one $50 $100 $200 $300 row two $1000 $2000 row three $10,000 $15,000 etc
The pace of the show needed to significantly increase and an audience for the hype and excitement.

Unfortunately the BBC seems to have a bit of a thing about making the jackpots as small as possible
And realistically even if they did have large jackpots, the maximum amount that can be won on the show would likely need to be capped to £100,000 or less, they would probably need to limit the cash builder rounds to something like max £16,660 per player

Well done Emma! First time I've seen hardball as it doesn't screen where I live. Wouldn't rate it as my favorite game show, the format is not that inventive, there's really not that much happening, and the fact that the small jackpot (compared to other shows) gets halved over and over makes it even less exciting to watch.

I just stumbled upon this video while watching episodes of Pointless.
I'd never heard of this show. So, why not give it a try?
2 min in, and I have to say: Mr. Oduba certainly has a flair for the dramatic. It's distracting.
*spin to profile to be inquisitive*
    *spin again for the reveal*
I thought he must have a background in musical theatre, so I Googled him.
Wut. Straight? Hasn't anyone informed his wife that he's gay?
    Hahaha. Kidding, of course.
Update: i just finished watching the show. Interesting. Good premise, but there are some HUGE drawbacks.
    1. Anti-climactic
The priize total should never decrease unless there is still a larger, ultimate grand prize available.
Who's gonna give a F about watching someone sweat it out for a chance to win a few hundred pounds?
    2. Anti-climactic
Alao, the final round is exactly the same (in terms of the levels and ball). Use some of that fancy set/lighting budget to create a MEGA BALL BOARD or something similar.
At the end, the contestant won but who knew? It was almost as exciting as the magazines in a dental office waiting roo-
