I bought this machine in 1998...... It was a blessing.... cause I was broke and could not buy a sp 12 or mpc... and my previous sampler had no sequencer.. this was $299... and did more ..than a sp 12.... I remember I showed up to a session with this machine and got laughed at till I plugged it in...... FACTZ.....
Same here. Got it for £195 in 98 and still have it. The lads who had the E-MU's etc all wanted one after they had a go on it.
The big plus with this sampler it got much more sample time than SP family so you can actually create elaborate 2 or even 4 bar loops, along with phrases etc. It also has a nice lpf so you don't need S950. A lot of people using SP samplers coupled it with S950 for that lpf. Second good thing is that this actually a stereo sampler so you can sample in stereo or mono if you want. And you can actually mix your beats inside the unit as it has panning options. With SP you need an external big mixing console to mix 8 outputs.
I'm thinking of picking one up this thing really seems to be an absolute jem
Another example of: the user is what makes the gear good🔥 you are amazing bro🙌🏽
definitely is, it's always the user. Thanks for tuning in 🙏🏼
People still cough up $500 to buy a sp303 but they completely ignore the sampletrak.
I didn't know about this sampler at all, but definitely glad I picked one up.
That Zoom sample track is the real deal man. Such a beautiful sound. Dope beat as always Marlow!
creamy ring noise
Great little sampler. Sold mine early this year. Kind of miss it but had to move on. My jog wheel was very unstable and getting exact values was a bitch. Resampling features are cool. It’s a good vintage machine to own, particularly for your kind of work, enjoy man 👍
Amazing little sampler from the late 90's. This things has some mojo for sure.
Great little unit, inbetween a poor man’s SP1200 & a poor man’s ASR-X. Things got so sick after resampling w/ effects multiple times. Never should’ve sold mine.
Still got mines from when the first went on sale back in the days. In storage. The swing is ridiculous. Just needed a song mode . Poor man’s SP1200
Got the ring for sure.
As someone who is obsessed with the SP1200 sound i might have to look into getting one of these Sampletraks!
@@IIEthanGamingII you want it, it’s def dope and what most people are looking for now when making simple dirty beats. Way ahead of its time, we don’t even want to talk about the Zoom Arq96
Still got mine from release back in 99.
@@4130jase D@m this made me realize.. I have one of these almost new in the box, still has the plastic film on the screen from the factory.. now that I think about it, I still have, somewhere, a gently used still in the box mpc1000, a beat to sh@t mpc2000XL and 2, as in TWO brand new, still in sealed boxes, MPC2500 w/carbon fiber faux, and again, 2 of those. Oh and an Akai s2000 in the box still, gently used,... bwa haha lets jus say back then I had more time than $$$ and well, I uh, lets jus say LIFE took over for a bit... I need to head over to my parents crib and pick all that gear up ASAP!!

I love the pitched down lofi grit on the keys, sounds like they're purring!
Here's a time saving tip - when you want to fine tune the start or end points of a sample you can press the "special" button and then use the up and down keys. It changes the increments so it's more precise than using the wheel once you're in the ballpark but less tedious than moving per individual sample point like the up and down keys usually do. Hope to see some more vids with this thing in the future - it's a really underrated unit!
Still worth to use in 2021? D@m this made me realize.. @@phabeondominguez5971 I still use mine a lot in conjunction with an MPC 1000 (w/ JJOS2XL) and a few 80s/90s samplers. I really like the way the Sampletrak distorts when you overdrive the input the right amount, especially on things with a lot of bass. I'm lightning quick chopping on it too, faster than on any of my other samplers, so I mainly use it to work out melodic ideas quick and then resample those chops into the MPC for sequencing
@@prufrockrenegade d@m, that's AWESOME MAN.. makes me wanna get back into all that, aka beatmaking. What's the best way to learn the SampleTrak?
@@phabeondominguez5971 It was the first hardware sampler I owned that had a sequencer, so I just dove into it, and for about a year it was the only thing I used to make beats. The limitations of the sequencer really got to me after a while though so that's when I invested in the MPC. So I guess just dive in and download the manual onto your phone for reference and you'll get a feel for it quick. It's a really easy to use and logically laid out unit for the most part (unlike some other units from around that time haha)
@@prufrockrenegade Bwa haha, AWESOME, will do man, thanks for the feedback... oNe
oh man i bought one of these years ago for less than a $100, so underrated
Thanks for posting this. The ST-224 is a great bit of kit, I still have mine, haven't used it in years, boxed up and in the loft with a couple of old 8 tracks. Seeing someone putting it to good use brings back some memories.
Still have it?
Dope! You really made great use of the fx. I would have sworn the thing had mute groups the way you were freaking it. But man, I love the Sampletrak. I swear, if you could just chain those songs together it would have been about as perfect as one of those late 90s phrase samplers could be. As is, I still really love using it as a sound module and an fx box. The MIDI's weird since you can only trigger things as gated regardless of how you've got it set on the machine but I have a grand old time sequencing it from my Digitakt and Digitone. A fun thing about that is you can automate the fx with cc messages. I use it a lot on the filter. And they still go for under $300. It's a damn steal if you can find one.
Yeah this thing is surprisingly useful, never thought I could do so much with it. loving every bit
I didn't know you could sequence the sample trak from external gear...I have an Ensoniq EPS classic and I wanna grab one of these but I would prefer to sequence from the eps. Do you know if that's possible I heard it wasn't
@@johndoeiii6103 I don't know anything about the EPS in particular but I sequence it from my Digitakt. The pads just correspond to MIDI notes.
@@CoolDougLove yeah I just didnt know it had a midi in and it could be sequenced from external gear
@@johndoeiii6103 Yep. MIDI in. But no out or thru.
Hell yeah man. Love the vibes. I've looked at these before. That grit is awesome!
It is man, you should get one, you'll love it.
I just bought mine for 70 usd. xd
Seeing the zoom brings me back to those early production memories
I don't know how I missed this sampler until now
It looks like it should be detecting fish with radar, but there's no denying how much fun that looks like to use.
I miss my ST-224 and RT-123.
Good times and dope music.
I don't make beats on it tho, I just run stuff through it
Yeah, that's what I see myself doing
Thank you for the video, Marlo. The first time I saw this machine was in a UA-cam video by a content creator named Narcotic Beatz. They sell for under $300.00. Is it possible to sample on the ST-224 to achieve that lo-fi/ring modulation sound and then sample that into the MPC? Gracias, hermano. Bendiciones!
Yeah you can do that, that's what I'll be doing, lofi ring is definitely good here.
@@mpchead ❤
Narcotic Beatz is always a dope watch, love that guys videos
1) Sample source into MPC, normalize, pitch up 10
2) sample into ST224, pitch down to around -5-10 to taste
3) sample back into MPC
@@_thevaporz nice advice, thx dude
I was always an SP-303 dude. But I’m seriously considering buying one of these.
Use them together 🔥
Eu amo essa maquina! Já usei e sou afim de descolar uma pra mim. Foda que aqui no Brasa está impossível conseguir comprar qualquer equipa... Abraço meu irmão!
Had one of these almost 20 years ago, slept on.
I played around on the blue drum machine bout 2001 as well
Yeaah, i bought one a couple days ago, still waiting for it 🔥🔥 Salute Marlow
you gonna love it
I didn’t even know about this sampler 🤔🇨🇦🔥 make more videos on this gear 🙏🏿
will do
Does this sampler have an internal memory?
Yea it has internal memory
Ya the 224 is nuts. Great for those that can't afford a 1200.
This really is a sought after lil sampler. It deserves all the attention you're giving it Marlow.
And for those of you out there who want it, you better act FAST!
very fast, price is going up
I just ordered one today

@@jamesjr2550 where and how much?
@@phabeondominguez5971 Sell some of that gear on reverb or ebay tbh bro. Make your money back or double up.
I don't know if this is the right place to ask this.. But I've noticed a lot of people with samplers talking about changing the sounds from stereo to mono, my goal is just to achieve a good sounding beat that doesn't phase but I'm so confused on this whole stereo mono thing
I would love to see you take a stab at the old "metal face doom" (its a green and silver unit) box..the korg es1...I think its in the same kind of niche as the st224...made to compete at the time with roland sp samplers, but with an entirely different, more user friendly work flow, a step sequencer, and some really cool effects and bells an whistles that are unique to that machine...usually they run for under 200$ us dollars, and there are still plenty out there, as nobody is "up on em" ...yet...until you make the video...lol
can someone please explain how to get the pads to play as one shots because mine only plays samples if I hold down the pads
Go to trigger
@@mpchead ok thanks 👍
ok u got me, my next sampler also, damn this sound.
Yeah man, get it while they're cheap. For sure some nice ring to it and effects too.
Go awf then
I used to have one of these and when i look back i had so much fun with it.... gonna try and grab a used one again..... lovely beat on this video.
great sampling🔥
Thanks 💯
I really need to see you working the Octatrack. Much better for sampled beats than Rtym.
omg that beat is so dope thank you so much for teaching guiding and letting me watch how too master the boom bap sound blaster I never felt this much love before like wow love really the answer
Looks like an old K7 player :D Another great loop Marlow!!
The bass is not tuned and totally off - but the beat is dope af.
I should trade my electricribe for this lol. this seems way more my speed
I love this sampler. ''The Dirt Machine'':)
I want one so bad. Gonna have to klarna this bad boy
Tight beat, Marlow. I've known about this sampler for years but struck out on ebay many times before I revisited it again after watching your video and scooped a decent deal for one last night! Excited to hear how it sounds in person compared to my Air Lofi/RX950/SP950 plugins chain.
for the price this thing is a great unit, goes really well on the side of another sampler just to use for resampling purposes and adding extra lofiness. you can also just make beats with it.
The cards for these are very expensive.
dawg i love this beat FUCK
Thanks for sharing never seen this gear before, but it's interesting. The beat you came up with is dope!
It's a great little sampler and not too expensive, definitely worth checking out.
This beat is certified dopeness. Great work, man!

im only 15 seconds in, but this is awesome, when i was younger on a budget i was all over zoom, great upload
Hey I wish I had known this sampler when I was young, budget sampler but with a lot of potential.
nice
Baby's first sampler...this thing was classic
Baby like birdman?
Nice where the Horns from?
you dont have any problems not grounding your turntable? when im not grounded, for example to my sp, sound quality is absolute trash, especially with no preamp
I'm wondering..if you start a track, with all of those sequences re-sampled and saved to pads, "Playlist style"...and set the new tempo to the same bpm as those saved sequences, can you record your pad play, creating entire songs, without having to manually trigger the diff sequences/loops?...does that make sense.?...bouta try it myself...
Dope
🔥🔥🔥you made it look so easy Great Work!!!
I actually use my Zoom as a precursor to my MPC 2500. I use the effects on the Zoom

Bro!!!! I was waiting for you to get one! I got one a couple months back. Love it. Especially with the analog heat adding to it
Love this thing
@@mpchead and you're already making it sound great! Keep em coming!
That’s a dope machine. I like vintage gear but I’m not sure if I would buy a older sampler, but I’m looking to buy a vintage keyboard.
exquisite videoclip...as always your channel is "manteca"
blessings man stay safe...PeaceOne
this is amazing.
where did you get the bass sound from?
I can't remember where that bass sample comes from but probably a cookinsoul sample pack
Filthy!!!!!❤❤❤
i love this machine! the standard bit rate gives it that crunch combined with my mpc 2000. The sequencer is kinda bulky though so Ive never really bothered to make a beat on there
Eu tive um rsrs.
Wish arturia made samplers as well as classic synths
Yes
I love my sampletrak it's so fast and i love the yamaha su700 even more but both also in time parts get figgity
Amazing beat
Dude that Youngblood soundtrack album I love it
one of my favorite videos/beats of yours
✌🏼
Is this track on the album :D?
no, this is a new beat I cooked up, should no on the next beat tape.
🖤
How do you go about tracking this thing out? It does not sync correctly..
I never track anything out, too lazy for that.
@@mpchead I thought you might have a solution. I guess I'm gonna have to keep resampling this machine. I track all my music completely out.

Never heard of it. Looks 🔥🔥
Lovely inspirational stuff as usual mate. Just wondering if this went through the Analogue heat as well?
No, this went straight to the interface, if it had gone through the heat it would have been game over.
Woooow 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
nice
Nice! 🧘🏿♂️
Illy filly funk horn !
Nice atmosphere
Thought you were gonna do more videos with the mpc and sp
I am, the XL and SP 202 and more
love that sound!
I've love mine!
Very nice Beat!
A lot of people hate zoom..i have Rt234.. and it has some lush beats
Why do they hate it? it's such a nice little noisy sampler.
@@mpchead nah,as a company they say they are hard to use and link..the drum machines from the 90s are sweet, i had the rt234,had wicked pallette, little electro 'knocks' and sharp clicks ,very futures in 1998,i had one till it just 'died' still in a box in the roof space
