The fact that he took the trip to get mangos while everybody refused and took hours to hike to the other side to get lost in pure darkness. Hours of hacking and slashing in this darkness to reach the camp and STILL gives them the mangos. What a champ.
I think its a rule that they have to share whatever food they find, thats why if they usually would have a scene declare that "I dont want to help to the these people anymore" before eating alone

What makes Probst going off on Brett, but not Yul even more funny is that when Yul left Penner's hat on the Jury bench, he intended for it to be an anonymous thing where the Jury wouldn't know who left it. It was actually PROBST HIMSELF who told Penner that Yul had left the hat, which means Probst influenced the Jury towards Yul's favour, not Yul.

I was thinking the same thing when I watched this episode - *but* then I had to remember that there were still *3* people left in the game that would eventually sit on that jury bench with Penner, and be able to tell him WHOSE idea it was to bring his hat to him. So, Yul would have been given credit for that before FTC even if Jeff said nothing. The entire jury bonds and hangs out at their hotel when not at FTC… and hearing about how Yul was the one who decided they should bring Penner his hat, and how he even tried to do it anonymously without taking credit - would certainly earn him favor with the jury just for being a decent person overall. Jeff kind of needed to remind everyone that with an IQ like Yul’s, subtly could have been a part of his plan and this whole scheme could have been designed for him to earn jury votes. Jeff needed to at least plant that thought into their mind so they wouldn’t assume that Yul’s move with the hat was SOLELY to be kind, with zero underhanded intentions.
Another thing that could be considered "behind the scenes" that happened in Caramoan, is when Erik had a large cut, which the medical team used penicillin on to prevent infenction. However, Erik later revealed on his UA-cam channel, that he had a possible allergy to penicillin, which might have caused him to be medically evacuated in the final five, whilst all we see is Erik malfunctioning randomly.
Apparently that's the same as Ralph's idol in Redemption Island which he found so early that the cameras never caught it and his alleged finding of the idol a few days later into the game only came up then once he finally mentioned that he'd had the idol from the first fifteen minutes at camp
My favorite “behind the scenes” fact is from the final 3 Tribal Council in Survivor Guatemala. When the jury walked in and saw that Danni had the immunity necklace they started clapping and cheering. Jeff got angry and said “Guys, you’re gonna give it away” (the outcome) and made the jurors reshoot the walk without them cheering. This is why the jurors are all smiling as they walk in, and you see Rafe and Stephanie looking at each other like “No matter which of us Danni takes with her, it doesn’t matter. She already won the whole thing”
Although it wasn't as big of a deal I also noticed something similar in Koah Rong. Everyone was happy that Michele won final immunity. You could see it on most of their faces but they didn't clap or anything.
I don't think the elephant in the room was Brandon Hantz getting ejected. I think the elephant in the room was the producers giving Hantz the green light to blow up at the tribe, even if they didn't think it would go that far. Imagine having Hantz at the Reunion Show with the potential for that little nugget to get revealed.

Another could be Davie in DvG hiding throughout the island to eavesdrop on conversations. Not just once but throughout the ENTIRE postmerge. I guess this was such a running joke to the players that when he was voted out and sent to Ponderosa, all the jury members there hid from him throughout the house as a prank.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people have heard this story before, but apparently, Pagong's first Tribal Council in Borneo was a miserable experience for Jeff, courtesy of Greg. First of all, he was intentionally undermining the whole process of Tribal Council, and generally being obnoxious, acting like the whole thing was a huge joke. Eventually, Jeff lost his temper and yelled at him. Greg also managed to convince his whole tribe to put Jeff's name down when they first voted, which made him even more mad.
I remember Jeff losing it over Greg's shenanigans at tribal. I just watched a video of the times Jeff lost his temper on the show, and was surprised this wasn't included because it was the first such incident that we saw.
@@magiccitymama1620 What made Greg awesome was the fact that he was the show's first truly meta character, and the fact that the show could even have one in its first season was amazing in of itself. Greg went in thinking the whole concept of Survivor was a joke. A big, overblown, melodramatic joke, and he wanted to make sure people watching at home understood what a joke it really was, hence why he didn't take a single second of it seriously, and devoted all his screen time to goofy shenanigans, like randomly bursting into song, getting into a fake fight over a dumb idiom, talking into a coconut phone, and generally act like he was having fun instead of being miserable over the shitty living conditions they were all forced to endure. So yeah, it's no wonder why Jeff considered him to be one of the biggest assholes in the show's history.
My favorite not aired survivor moment is Gillian from Gabon attempting to munity to the other tribe by literary rowing around aimlessly for 2 hours looking for their camp. She said the camera man followed her so she assumed that if she did find them production would actually allow this unprecedented munity.
the word is "mutiny" and you're using it in the wrong context. mutiny is like another word for "revolution". you're looking for something more like "defect".
Winners at War: Yara tribe wins a pizza reward challenge which is never aired. Ghost Island: Merge tribe negotiates for rice; Jeff Probst tells them they can have it, but have to rebuild their camp from scratch. They agree, and Wendell rebuilds the camp in a couple days. Panama: After losing a puzzle challenge (assembling puzzle in the water), Aras proves to producers that his tribe's puzzle pieces were wrong and would not produce the correct result. Challenge is re-run, and Aras & co win.
@@Mentally_Will Apparently the Wendell story (which I believe I heard him tell in a RHAP interview last fall) was cut from the show because they were embarrassed by what little impact it wound up having. As Wendell tells it, production didn't account for the fact that he (a furniture maker) and Dom (a construction foreman) were far more capable of building a good shelter fast than your average Survivor players.

Dave Ball not being invited back on the show now makes sense. Such an underrated character, if he wasn't on a season with Russell Hantz he definitely would've flourished.
I think I heard a story in Micronesia where James and Alexis wandered off in the middle of the night to find the producer's camp and stole a bunch of Gatorade or something like that and also got caught. It was the night that James apparently fell and injured his finger as well and that's when James made up the story of how he just cut it on a clam or something
For me, the missing moment is 2-hour full footage of Sundra vs Becky's fire making challenge. Really want to watch the gradation of the jurors' expressions 😂
I feel like any long endurance challenge would be fun to watch in its entirety, like final immunity in Palau, Tom negotiated with Probst to not change the challenge to have 1 foot on the buoy after ten hours, as Tom felt that would be changing the challenge too much, Probst and the producers agreed to not change it, and the rest is history.

Another cool tidbit. Apparently, on Survivor: Panama, a kilo of cocaine washed up on the shore, and shane immediately picked it up and was going to use it before the producers snatched it from him
It's important to note that we are told that when Earl trekked across the island he was accompanied by a film crew and producers. Those "private" moments that we see are far from private, and the crews' accommodations aren't far away.
One of the things that comes up in my household when we discuss the narrative of survivor and these missing moments or context to scenes is that the process itself could probably be interesting enough for a show. Some kind of competition where a selection of editors are given some pile of footage and have to craft stories out of the footage.
There were numerous shocking moments that happened on Survivor Cook Islands that were never shown on TV. I should know. I am the sister of former Cook Island contestant, Billy Garcia. One of the many things that were never shown that still surprises me to this day was when Billy was accidentally set on fire by his fellow tribe mate Christina during the first immunity challenge. Jeff Probst even witnessed it and yelled in happy excitement that Billy was on fire. But for whatever reason they never showed the incident. Instead, they depicted Billy as being lazy in camp when in reality he was injured. He was never treated during the game because those were the days when if you got medical help of any sort no matter how small you got removed from the game. The other reason he looked like he was being lazy was because he also accidentally drank water that was improperly boiled. As a result he was constantly throwing up all over the place. His stomach became infected with parasites. During elimination interviews both of his fellow female tribe mates even confirmed that Billy had been very sick and that was their reason for wanting to vote him out. Billy has spoken many times on numerous interviews about the incidents and about the other numerous shocking moments that were never aired on Survivor 13 Cook Islands.

I saw once that Varner also said he's confident Kel had beef jerky. He said pre game he was roomed near Kel, and one day both their doors were open and he looked over and caught a glimpse of Kel fiddling with the seam on a pair of shorts, and when Kel noticed him he got up and shut the door. Not sure how true that might be, but it's at least another anecdote about it
One from Survivor Guatemala. At the tribal council where Gary goes home he says "you guys can get Stephenie's autograph after the game is over!". This wasn't an out of the blue comment, it was actually directed at Cindy. Earlier in the season (not sure the episode) Cindy won a reward challenge, and initially picked Stephenie to go on it with her. She apparently made some speech about how it would be a dream come true to go on a reward with her Survivor hero. But since some people had started to complain about how Stephenie was going on all the rewards Stephenie refused to go on the reward with Cindy and asked her to pick someone else. This is also why Cindy later picks Stephenie for a reward when she wins one again later in the season.
Not related but… A topic that I hope you cover after this current season, is “best survivor challenge players.” Jonathan is something else this season. Completely caring his tribe, winning, being in every single challenge not just the strength but also balance and endurance challenges. I’m amazed how dominant he is. The recoveries on challenges are insane and it is over multiple challenges. Just appreciating how great he is.
its a great winners moment BUT the idol was so impactful that season and it was the first season it really was, so likely prod didnt want people to think the idol sucked or was a detriment to the game
Chances are the producers with brandon were like "sure you can vent and throw a tantrum" To which he proceeds to ruin vital food supplies that whether logistically or narratively cant be easily replaced which would have been likely one of three things they didnt want happening, the other two being an actual physical fight and fuckin with the camera/audio equipment
We also never saw Michael actually falling into the fire in season 2 (maybe because it was too graphic?) or Clarence and Diane eat the can of beans in season 3. We just saw the aftermath of both.

On Survivor One world, 1. apparently Bill illegally stole Coltons idol and threw it into the sea. A big search ensued and no one was allowed to chat about what had happened. It was a major factor why Colton had so much hatred for Bill in that season. 2. apparently Kim according troyzan if I remember changed the vote on the boat to the tribal council from Troyzan to Jay (when he got voted off), your not suppose to chat on the boat. Troyzan played his idol during that council. Could have changed the game.

Yul didn't actually had the hat too him, just left it on the juries bench before they were brought in, which is why it unlike the wish of happy Birthday to a specific jury member, wasn't against the rules.

Don't forget about the not-on-camera "that will NEVER make air" remark from Jeff Probst in response to Rob Cesternino's infamous Casey Kasem voting confessional, since it could be heard by everyone at tribal council. Of course, it made air.

How about when production allegedly framed Janet Koth with a planted granola bar in Amazon Season 6 in order to keep Christy (who was the tribe's unanimous target before the incident) on the show longer...the show would have looked bad if their first ever deaf contestant got voted out second! There never was a clear resolution to where the bar came from and Janet swore it was not hers. We need a video explainer about this. Something was surely amiss here cos it made no sense at all! Where did that granola bar REALLY come from?
I remember hearing a story from season 1, where some of the survivors got away from the camera crew, and when they were found, they were in a crew trailer eating. No idea if it’s true or not.
If the survivor producers were smart.. they would have been compiling some of the crazy moments they had to cut bc they didn't add to the story or there wasn't time or whatever other reason and kind of saving them aside so one day they could release some sort of multi-part specials and show us a bunch of stuff from random seasons that we've never seen. And if they do this for a while it could go back years to what would then be "older seasons" and I think the fans would love to see it. I kept thinking that that would have been perfect during quarantine since they couldn't film. It doesn't even have to be a full 10-13 episodes.. even just like a 3-part series or something. It would have been awesome. But people on reddit all said that they don't keep the footage from past seasons. Which is crazy to me but I guess it's harder to do than it sounds..?
I watched ansurvivor china reunion its a video on youtube and Jaime reveals that her and Genre Bear escaped their camp via their canoe I think they did this because at this time it close to both of their birthdays its weird those two did that.

@@Mentally_Will Apparently the Wendell story (which I believe I heard him tell in a RHAP interview last fall) was cut from the show because they were embarrassed by what little impact it wound up having. As Wendell tells it, production didn't account for the fact that he (a furniture maker) and Dom (a construction foreman) were far more capable of building a good shelter fast than your average Survivor players.
A lot of the WaW contestants were super disappointed the reward never aired, there was a HUGE reaction to sandra being gone

I think I heard a story in Micronesia where James and Alexis wandered off in the middle of the night to find the producer's camp and stole a bunch of Gatorade or something like that and also got caught. It was the night that James apparently fell and injured his finger as well and that's when James made up the story of how he just cut it on a clam or something

I feel like any long endurance challenge would be fun to watch in its entirety, like final immunity in Palau, Tom negotiated with Probst to not change the challenge to have 1 foot on the buoy after ten hours, as Tom felt that would be changing the challenge too much, Probst and the producers agreed to not change it, and the rest is history.
Also, Christian’s hour long shpeel during that endurance challenge beating out Alec.

One of the things that comes up in my household when we discuss the narrative of survivor and these missing moments or context to scenes is that the process itself could probably be interesting enough for a show. Some kind of competition where a selection of editors are given some pile of footage and have to craft stories out of the footage.

After all my years of being a fan of Survivor, it’s cool that there’s still some stories out there that I hadn’t heard before!
There were numerous shocking moments that happened on Survivor Cook Islands that were never shown on TV. I should know. I am the sister of former Cook Island contestant, Billy Garcia.
One of the many things that were never shown that still surprises me to this day was when Billy was accidentally set on fire by his fellow tribe mate Christina during the first immunity challenge. Jeff Probst even witnessed it and yelled in happy excitement that Billy was on fire. But for whatever reason they never showed the incident. Instead, they depicted Billy as being lazy in camp when in reality he was injured. He was never treated during the game because those were the days when if you got medical help of any sort no matter how small you got removed from the game.
The other reason he looked like he was being lazy was because he also accidentally drank water that was improperly boiled. As a result he was constantly throwing up all over the place. His stomach became infected with parasites. During elimination interviews both of his fellow female tribe mates even confirmed that Billy had been very sick and that was their reason for wanting to vote him out.
Billy has spoken many times on numerous interviews about the incidents and about the other numerous shocking moments that were never aired on Survivor 13 Cook Islands.
Yeah the obese fat guy wouldve been working the hardest if only he didnt drink that water.

I saw once that Varner also said he's confident Kel had beef jerky. He said pre game he was roomed near Kel, and one day both their doors were open and he looked over and caught a glimpse of Kel fiddling with the seam on a pair of shorts, and when Kel noticed him he got up and shut the door. Not sure how true that might be, but it's at least another anecdote about it
One from Survivor Guatemala. At the tribal council where Gary goes home he says "you guys can get Stephenie's autograph after the game is over!". This wasn't an out of the blue comment, it was actually directed at Cindy. Earlier in the season (not sure the episode) Cindy won a reward challenge, and initially picked Stephenie to go on it with her. She apparently made some speech about how it would be a dream come true to go on a reward with her Survivor hero. But since some people had started to complain about how Stephenie was going on all the rewards Stephenie refused to go on the reward with Cindy and asked her to pick someone else. This is also why Cindy later picks Stephenie for a reward when she wins one again later in the season.
It's interesting that Cindy seems to hate Steph, according to reddit

Not related but… A topic that I hope you cover after this current season, is “best survivor challenge players.” Jonathan is something else this season. Completely caring his tribe, winning, being in every single challenge not just the strength but also balance and endurance challenges. I’m amazed how dominant he is. The recoveries on challenges are insane and it is over multiple challenges. Just appreciating how great he is.

i called it on brandon hantz all the way back then. i always counted it as an expulsion bc it felt WAY more like one than a true voteout.
Probst was all but holding Brandon back. He was too unpredictable.
I will never forget the Beef Jerky Incident. All these years later, without ever rewatching the season.
Chances are the producers with brandon were like "sure you can vent and throw a tantrum" To which he proceeds to ruin vital food supplies that whether logistically or narratively cant be easily replaced which would have been likely one of three things they didnt want happening, the other two being an actual physical fight and fuckin with the camera/audio equipment

We also never saw Michael actually falling into the fire in season 2 (maybe because it was too graphic?) or Clarence and Diane eat the can of beans in season 3. We just saw the aftermath of both.

On Survivor One world, 1. apparently Bill illegally stole Coltons idol and threw it into the sea. A big search ensued and no one was allowed to chat about what had happened. It was a major factor why Colton had so much hatred for Bill in that season. 2. apparently Kim according troyzan if I remember changed the vote on the boat to the tribal council from Troyzan to Jay (when he got voted off), your not suppose to chat on the boat. Troyzan played his idol during that council. Could have changed the game.

How about when production allegedly framed Janet Koth with a planted granola bar in Amazon Season 6 in order to keep Christy (who was the tribe's unanimous target before the incident) on the show longer...the show would have looked bad if their first ever deaf contestant got voted out second! There never was a clear resolution to where the bar came from and Janet swore it was not hers. We need a video explainer about this. Something was surely amiss here cos it made no sense at all! Where did that granola bar REALLY come from?

I remember hearing a story from season 1, where some of the survivors got away from the camera crew, and when they were found, they were in a crew trailer eating. No idea if it’s true or not.
If the survivor producers were smart.. they would have been compiling some of the crazy moments they had to cut bc they didn't add to the story or there wasn't time or whatever other reason and kind of saving them aside so one day they could release some sort of multi-part specials and show us a bunch of stuff from random seasons that we've never seen. And if they do this for a while it could go back years to what would then be "older seasons" and I think the fans would love to see it.
I kept thinking that that would have been perfect during quarantine since they couldn't film. It doesn't even have to be a full 10-13 episodes.. even just like a 3-part series or something. It would have been awesome. But people on reddit all said that they don't keep the footage from past seasons. Which is crazy to me but I guess it's harder to do than it sounds..?
I watched ansurvivor china reunion its a video on youtube and Jaime reveals that her and Genre Bear escaped their camp via their canoe I think they did this because at this time it close to both of their birthdays its weird those two did that.
