Broke my arm at the skate park a few years ago at 48... decided to retire after a long run and 13 broken bones. I don't want a broken hip or anything else at my age. I must say, you are a trooper and far more daring than I could ever be at this point. Skate on dude!
Thanks for posting this, I'm 37 and within the last 2 years I've managed to break my right wrist the first year which only took me out of work for about a month but when I broke the left one earlier this year it took me out for a lil over 3 months and it was rough financially. I just miss that feeling of feelin like I was on top of the world after putting a sick line together when I was younger. Some of my homies seemed to almost be able to pick up where they left off after 10-15 years of not skating but I'm not that fortunate. You're video inspires me to keep trying, I just gotta find a different line of work that doesn't require arms and legs so I can still pay the bills if I get injured.
where is your protective gear? The other day on a fall I hurt my wrist and I'm a guitarist. I don't walk without protection anymore....I'm 50. Congratulations from Brazil !
WOW!to a 49 year old who's just started skating again, you sir are an inspiration,I like wearing my sixsixone impact shorts under my combats though.Stay rad dude.
4 days ago I just broke my hip top of femur in socket. This video i needed to see. Im going thru it now. Thank you i kinda have some hope now. This is very depressing to go thru. Thanks for posting your remakable recovery.
We learn to walk, then ride a bike, then skate and never stop. Well sometimes we have to do it all over again. Amazing work dude. Great video too. Really well done.
This is awesome I’m 39 and off a injury from work I had knee surgery miniscus cut and removed and 1 inch of bone shaved down and I had little back surgery I had to start off on my bike to build up the strength to get back to skating this is awesome to see hope you’re doing well man never stop skating
Wow! Mad respect to you young man. I'm 49 & I've been trying to get back into it, I'd be happy to just carve & grind. In the video I thought I saw an iv in your bone? Anyways, props to you keep shredding!
Takes longer to heal a blow out quad than a broken hip. Did a shoulder high kick and nearly severed my upper quad while tearing the lower part. Almost 18 months to rehabilitate completely. My whole focus is range of motion and strengthening now till I shuffle off this mortal coil.
Great stuff Jono. Had two bad back injuries 7 years ago. Now 46 ache like crap but I missed skating too much to give up. Small steps. Porthcawl is a nice bowl, Your local?
Fair play to ya mate that must of been some serious pain. I'm getting back into skating ,grew up on a skateboard in Aus in the seventies now 63. I came of without pads on never again😂 I got double layer of hip pads and all the rest of the pads. Didn't know Porthcawl had a skate park, Swansea has a new one to I'm Pembrokeshire so we got Haverwest which is great to have on my doorstep. Keep enjoying man !
Nice one...if you are in the area come over and skate Mumbles, it's so smooth and a great fun layout. The bowl is really good too. Love Haverfordwest but haven"t been over much since we got Mumbles built. Thanks for the comment mate and hopefully bump into you at a skatepark one day!
And I thought 3 weeks out for a sprain was bad! Congrats on getting back on the board. Just out of curiosity, I happen to live in the south wales region and was wondering where all the skate parks you went to were?
Porthcawl, Aberavon, the d.i.y. bowl is in Bristol, the pump tracks are in Bristol and Desborough(Northants),Southbank and the final bowl is Crystal Palace. Hope that helps? Thanks for writing!
Broke my hip 3/26/21, same surgery same ORIF. The surgeon said I could skate again if I was stubborn enough. My reply" I'm a 59 y/o skateboarder, that proof enough?". Skated 4 months later, rode Burnside on Halloween. The rehab is not as difficult as you'd think when you have a goal.
Yes! You are totally right, if you want to get back on it then the rehab isn’t the mountain you might think it is when you first hear that crack. It is rad that surgery and the actual mechanics of repairing the bone is done so quickly and well. It’s then just down to you, if you want it go and get it. Looks like you wanted it so stoked for you that you are back and ripping again!
@@jonozero1 Do you do exercises every day? I think I'll have to do them forever if I want to be active. My surgeon called it "minor" before I went in , I'll admit that the simple statement made a difference in my stress level. Didn't even cross my mind to vid the rehab.
@@tcbrockie138 I do range of motion exercises every day and walk and cycle as much as I can and of course skate when it’s dry! I also have a big elastic band to do some resistance/strength exercise. Just keeping moving basically. It’s good to have some people around you pushing you along too. It is a slow process!
I am 51 and skate sometimes mostly when I am stressed. I always pad up "Dads in pads" and still am sore and banged up when I am done.. It just makes me cringe to see older skaters in the bowls trying to rip grinds and such without pads as we all loosen up and then try to push it and bail.. Concrete is harder after 25 years old I think in my Humble opinion. Knee slide out FTW.
I’m all for pads and protecting my soft bits! I have seen people taken out by knee sliding in our crusty bowl though, the rough concrete grips the pads and it’s straight onto the hands. I love the way people can butt slide out of anything these days and wear no pads on the biggest stuff……something that will forever elude me I’m afraid. Keep on shredding and thanks for watching and commenting. Also I am a little guilty of telling my kids to pad up while not doing so myself.
Awesome Jono! Well done on the recovery.
Nice one Gus! I was inspired by your fast recovery

Já passei por isso. Sei o quanto é duro. Mas é um aprendizado. Parabéns... Skate or die

I believe it has a lot to do with your mobility and how agile you are. This is key to bouncing back.
If you break your damn hip you should be wearing hip pads after that at the very least, how incredibly irresponsible for the sake of fashion
Thanks mum
Lol calm down grams
Lmfao I don't even remember leaving this comment but boy what a stupid comment. Sorry bro, keep shredding
You aint an official skater unless youre breaking something. Keep pushin mate. Get some of those hip pad shorts.
what was it like taking poops, my guy?
