Anyone buying a serious unit needs to call this dude. Fly him in for a day and make sure you know what is what. Nothing against sellers. Most are straight shooters in my opinion. There are just so many ways to make a mistake when making an assessment. Big investment. Make the call if buying one of these things.
Very nice example of an original 70 Chevelle SS LS6. Wow! Very cool unusual color combo too. Excellent work Patrick Glenn Nichols. It's awesome to witness an original GM piece.
this is this first gold interior that i have seen that i actually like to look at!, would had been great in a black car i bet. i guess all the others i have seen was well past their prime lol!i normally hate gold in them!love the videos, i always learn something!
Thanks for what you do Patrick!! Always love watching your videos and listening to your knowledge. There’s really nothing else like it on UA-cam. Keep it up
Welcome back Patrick, hope all is well. My favorite car in the world. Nothing designed better for power, looks and handling in one package. I'd take a 70 ss 396 and be happy, a 72" with a nice 350 is the closet I got so far. One day. For the record, I'm totally against this "green energy" panic, big lie.
Hey man, american muscle rules, but you don't get stoked on the amount of instant power and torque electric is able to deliver? Like, I love the chop of a V8, but I'm equally excited at the squeal/whine of an electric motor as it shreds the rubber of a tire! That being said, these machines are works of art and i commend the folks that keep these masterpieces in shape, they're the dream of motorheads all around!
Patrick you are very knowledgeable about the chevelles. They were always my favorite 😍. I had a 69 gto 400 4 speed that I loved but gas prices back then , and a family forced me to sell it
I ordered and bought a 69 Nova SS in gold (don't remember what the name of the gold was). I did order the 3:31 axle and, as it turned out, was a good decision since a lower axle would have made my 14 highway mpg impossible. This SS 454's 3:31 ratio was really a sensible choice, this being a big block car, as it would have taxed its LS6 at constant highway speeds.
Agree . Love Novas and Chevelles..Had two 70SS Chevelles, both 4.11s...Great for drag racing and round town, not hiway. I drove mine to drag strip , raced it, came home. Check out this older camcorder video I found of my Red One on UA-cam.. ua-cam.com/video/6JqspXe0lDo/v-deo.html
The '70 Chevelle was a big part of my youth. My dad bought a Green Mist '70 Malibu brand new, and then years later I had my own '70 Malibu in Black Cherry, so I've always been kinda partial to those two colors, along with Autumn Gold. But seeing this one in Gobi Beige is really unique (in a good way) and the gold interior makes it a stand out. The fact that it's an LS6 is the icing on the cake (although I would have opted for the gauge package and a 4-speed). I've seen plenty of SS's in Cranberry Red, Fathom Blue and Tuxedo Black, but never in Gobi Beige - until now!
Glad to see another video, love all your videos and your wealth of knowledge. Having said that I hate Chevys I dislike them. I just love the way you do all your videos. Keep up the great work!
That was a great review, thank you Patrick. One possibility is that the SS was ordered by a dealer stripped down without any options except for the LS6 package so they could have the car on the floor for perspective buyers. Oh, you don't like the bench seat? We can add buckets. Don't like column shift, we can add floor shift. Don't like the minimal gauge package, we can add a tach and clock. Color? it comes in red. End of year discount the car if need be. I've have a 70 El Camino SS, don't know if it's an original or clone, no docs. It's red now , but hints that it was Gobi beige originally. Thanks Patrick, I'm going to drop the tank to see if I can find a treasure.
Thanks for getting your audio volume dialed in. That's an unusual combination of options on that car. Halfway surprised that someone didn't swap out the bench seat for bucket seats and a console and so many other things.
Great Job on another tutorial again Patrick. Love the knowledge you bring to the automotive world. Learn a lot from the knowledge you bring. Great Job . Thank you for everything you do.
With all of the "defects" highlighted in this video, it would be a very hard decision as to whether or not I'd allow this car in my garage...lol, no it wouldn't! I'd LOVE to have it! Beautiful car, incorrect parts and all!
I had a guy I worked with who got ls6 same color with no stripes, in high school. Same interior and column shift. There was a solid black 70 that sat in a driveway off the highway in a little town. Solid black original paint so it was interesting. I was always going to stop and look. The guy I worked with stopped and looked. It was a SS 454. He knocked on the door and asked the lady if it was for sale. She said if you want it today is the day. $500.00 (1983$) he said I’ll be right back. Paid and popped the hood. LS6. So he sold it to a guy from Chicago. Tool maker I believe. If you ever see her out there.
I enjoy your vast experience and would like to offer a suggestion: have you ever tried carrying a lump of Silly Putty, or even PlayDough to use and make an impression on stampls that are hard to read? This would be a quick way to ensure that you are reading the stamps correctly.
Gotta love love it when the most technical vehicle verification guy you follow, throws in a little of my level of info. "...With the "idiot lights"..."
Another very informative tutorial video, I enjoy your expertise and knowledge of little nuances typical of the assembly plants that built these magnificent cars. Hey Patrick I didn't notice on the build sheet this was noted as a customer order so would you assume it was a dealer ordered unit? Makes me wonder the quantity of dealer orders vs customer order LS6 cars. Looking forward to your next video!
Very interesting the person that ordered it wanted it to look cool and go fairly fast (but not that quick off the line) but he didn't care about anything extra. And I'm guessing not many people picked that color either. I'd be all over the black or red with stripes if I was buying one back in the day. With gauges and bucket seats and that very cool looking console shifter. Just really interesting, I bet there aren't too many of these with this combination.
1. Buyers still liked it 2. It was cheaper 3. Dealer ordered by mistake All three were possible. There's a 74 Trans Am out there with a column shift that was a dealer mistake. He liked the no console look but that was with 4-speed and he didn't think and had no idea that if he skipped the $55 optional console that the car would come in with a column shifter and was horrified when it did. 😀
110 grand is that in the ballpark of price? for a car like that, I have just retired at 50 and looking for one. I just got a gto goat 70, and looking for a chevelle 454 ss
Shes a Beauty! May not be red but that's a very pretty color combination. Funny how someone could miss by putting an upside down S on the fender. Oh well.
Some of the things mentioned in this video as incorrect may have been installed incorrectly at the factory. Not necessarily an indication that parts are not original or had been installed incorrectly after the purchase.
A guy gave me one of those things to help him fix his roof. One thing after another broke on that thing I wrenched on it more than I drove it. Sold the pile of junk put a paycheck with the money from the chevrolet and bought a Ford Torino, what a difference that Torino was fast and always ready to go. Never had to walk home after I got the Torino nice car
I find It extremely odd that a LS6 car would have a 3:31 rear gear... I was also under the impression that the LS-6 hydromatic equipped cars had the OEM high speed stall torque converter.
I'm pretty sure that car was a dealer ordered car because of the strange equipment level. Obviously I'll yield to Patrick if he answers otherwise but it appears to me to be a car ordered by a dealer to a trim level they thought they could easily sell from their inventory. I would think anyone with enough money to buy one of those new in 1970 would've had a hard time not loading it up with some of the virtually free options like the gauge package, bucket seats, console and the inexpensive add ons.
@@davidblackwell6914 Typically dealers would've had a higher optioned car on the showroom and/or the lot... since this is an LS6. This car was more likely spec'd by someone. I could be wrong.
My dad was a General Manager of a Chevrolet dealership during this period & I spent a lot of time there. I’m 63 now. Most of the top engine options were by customer special order. Extreme axle ratios, M-22 4 speeds and unusual options were on sold orders. They generally ordered more lower to middle range equipped cars for stock units.
Some dealers ordered high performance units for dealer stock and some didn't, just depended on the competition around them and what they wanted to do. You can search old car dealer ads and you'll see all kinds of top engine cars in stock and ready to go so it definitely was done.
Anyone buying a serious unit needs to call this dude. Fly him in for a day and make sure you know what is what. Nothing against sellers. Most are straight shooters in my opinion. There are just so many ways to make a mistake when making an assessment. Big investment. Make the call if buying one of these things.
Once again, another great tutorial, Patrick . I learn so much from watching these, just wish I could retain it all
Same here!
just watch the video again??
All things being considered, it's good to see a LS-6 Chevelle in good shape, instead of rotting away somewhere.
BUT IN GOBI BEIGE...??? WTF...???
@@williamriley2528 Even better, an unusual color, not often seen.
right, no matter how valuable it is.
All things considered I'd rather be in Philadelphia.w. c fields
I'm just glad it's not rotting away behind a double wide trailer somewhere in Tennessee. This car was loved.
Great job I’m a Chevelle man myself I have a 70 and my son has a 70 keep out a good work
That's a real nice all matching numbers LS6! Nice job Patrick 👍
Nothing could be better than your endorsement of the car. Ensuring the car is the car.
Very nice example of an original 70 Chevelle SS LS6. Wow! Very cool unusual color combo too. Excellent work Patrick Glenn Nichols. It's awesome to witness an original GM piece.
Excellent job as always. Glad you're back presenting 70 Chevelles. Nice car.
Nice report Patrick, love these documentary inspections. You are a legend!
LOL
Great to see a new video Patrick.Thank you👍
Beautiful car and great job as always Patrick.
I bet this was a special order car. Great video Patrick !
Almost looks like butter nut yellow in the video. Very cool 70
really enjoy the commentary and the knowledge of the 70 LS6 cars great videos
Cool as hell.....thanks for the video. Have a great summer!!!!

A rare car. Only 8880 made in 1970. And now only 10,990 are left
LOL

Thanks Patrick for showing us another incredible car.
FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME, RECEIVING YOUR VIDEOS.... GLAD TO SEE, THANKS PATRICK !!!!
Thank you for showing it, Patrick!
Another great job Patrick, keep it up, sure enjoy the videos and all the detail you provide!
what happened to that video where you found a restamped block in an el camino at VOLO?

Back in the mid 70's my dad had a '70 LS6 SS El Camino with the bench seat and column shifter.
the gold interior is beautiful.
It must have been a ton of fun ringing these ss chevelle necks off the dealership lots
Damn!!!! That’s a gem.
Goodday Patrick

Love it! A very beautiful car!
YOU have the BEST JOB IN THE WORLD MY FRIEND! WHAT'S BETTER THAN A NUMBERS # matching LS6 SS Chevelle ? NOT MUCH. ALWAYS GREAT VIDEOS THANK YOU
Yeah, I love it. Beautiful thanks
nice car i like that column shift don't see that too often.
Who in their right mind would want a column auto and bench seat in a muscle car
I say the something but some guys just prefer the bench .
And dealers ordered these just to advertise that they had the lowest price on a new SS in town! 🤠
Beautiful rig.
Very interesting the person that ordered it wanted it to look cool and go fairly fast (but not that quick off the line) but he didn't care about anything extra. My favorite setup, bench with auto on the column. Maybe I’m weird but I love it.
What a colour!
Great color
nice whip
I had a 72 Cutlass S with a similar black pleated door material
Give me bucket seats , M-22
Muncie 4 speed Rock Crusher ,
No vinyl top
4:11 posi
Smog crap has to go
And I'll pass on baby $H1T yellow paint
What's the difference between gold door panels and saddle?
good lord that's a gorgeous car right there, all original or not
110 grand is that in the ballpark of price? for a car like that, I have just retired at 50 and looking for one. I just got a gto goat 70, and looking for a chevelle 454 ss
patrick very nice but how much does the nos parts depreciate the car? always love your videos
Fifty bucks
Always learn something here.
Awesome!
The color!
Do you see prices for muscle car coming down anytime soon
Rare color combo.man that car would look even better without a vinyl top.god I hate vinyl tops.
My roommate had that exact car in 1992 😍
Shes a Beauty! May not be red but that's a very pretty color combination. Funny how someone could miss by putting an upside down S on the fender. Oh well.
i have 1972 el camino with front bumper guards, will the guards be the same for the 1970 chevelle ss?
They'd fit into the same trash can together in the interest of a more appealing appearance.
No
Gold and saddle interiors are my favorite colors, they just look so cool and classy.
