    World of warcraft is alive and kicking despite its best effort to fall over. Do you think the WoW enjoyer will take to Ashes of Creations more hardcoreish features and systems?

      There's a very important Point your initial topic is forgetting and that's the fact that the current wow player base in big part is now made up of the people who were molded by the companies changing direction rather than the actual original people who enjoy the actual game before it got ruined and I wouldn't be surprised if there's still a lot of those people that are still playing purely just because well they love the game once and there's nothing else necessary to replace it right now until Ash is drops.

      Like full stop there's very few people who actually enjoy all of the convenience and bulshit that's been added over time to the animal genre by wow as it was just the company's forcing that in within all the old players left and they've had new players come in and try it and either enjoy it or at least tolerate it enough to decide to keep on playing or play it while enjoying it for a while but then realize they hate it but also realizing that they put in too much time and don't want to give into the sunk cost fallacy.

      7:57 if this isn't a sign that current wow is literally and I do mean this completely literally, a 100% entirely different game the old school wow meaning that its current player base means jack in terms of caring about what they want, I don't know what else is because wow is literally the centerpiece for you and your friends walking around the world and everyone working together and doing their parts and the literal meme of if you have a an IRL job and a family and are successful IRL then you're doing something wrong.....

      Ohhh yeah ppl are just playing WOW as a placeholder. As soon as AOC releases I believe it will finally die as it should have 10+ years ago. I never even would have played it if SWG hadn't been ruined by Sony. WOW looked like for kids and even as a 14 yr old I kind of hated it and quickly moved to more mature looking MMO's even if they had way less players. AOC has the look and systems for people to grow old with. Could run the rest of our lives with graphical updates, no joke

    WoW will never truly die due to the huge amount of players with tremendous sunk cost. All those achievements, store mounts, cosmetics, etc... if they stop playing WoW, they will no longer have value. I am confident AoC will give a better casual and hardcore experience for every type of player. There is no focus around endgame, the focus is around the social aspect of the game. U arent on some sort of timer ticking down the minutes until u get fully geared before the next tier of gear gets released. U could be a level 10 player getting protected by level 50 players while u casually do whatever u want to do in the game. It is the true next level of gaming.

    Nope, Steven has ev3n said so. Hes not making this game for the masses. Riots game will tackle that hill.
    The Ashes crew want a challenge, no p2w, no dumbed down meaningless crap that wow has become, and a company that listens to its player base, it may not make steven and the gang make 'your' changes, but they will listen and take notes.
    I just want a good game where i can play with my friends and get lost in the world. This will be my last mmo, so if it fails it fails.

    WoW and Ashes are not the same type of MMO. I liked WoW but I always considered it a light version of MMOs the came before it. Great for beginners easy to play for all and it brought alot of people into the mmo market because of that. Ashes isn't so much bringing anything new it is refining what was old in the serious mmos that came before WoW taking the best and building a sandbox style MMO. I think alot of people will find it refreshing to get back to the old UO, DAOC, SWG, lineage 2 style of gaming and i think some WoW players desire something more gritty sandboxish but I don't think it would "Kill" it but maybe lower thier subs by a chunk.

    Wow is not going to die because of any 1 game. People have an emotional connection to wow so they tend to circle back each expansion just to see what is up. They may only stay for 4-6 months but that is really the only things needed to keep it alive.... from a servers not being taken down point of view. Our Guild has just over 100 players. Most of those players are in discord and they are playing a big variety of games. They always circle back to wow, raid log, or hop on for the weekend to get something done. However truth be told, there are so many games available now to be a 1 game andy. They will likely play Ashes, still jump into wow as they always have, and will continue to play other mmo's on the side. Ashes won't kill any game... it will give another option for players to add to their gaming library to pass the time.

  • @FolkoMagipaw

    Comparing Ashes to WoW is apples and oranges. Both are fruits, but for different tastes.
    Comparing any MMO to any MMO is quite odd in and of itself. The question Intrepid is asking is not "how do we kill wow" but "how do we make a good game". Ashes shouldn't strive to swipe players from other MMOs, because that's a recipe for disaster. Trying to swoop numbers from others will lead to you trying to cater to everyone and appeasing no one by the end of it.
    If the goal of WoW players is to play with only speed and efficiency, they'll be sorely disappointed.
    Basically the message is don't come to Ashes expecting WoW, cuz it ain't.

    The WoW players can keep playing WoW... as they tend to ruin new MMO's when they join and get the developers to make their original game more like... WoW. The key to any new MMO is to NOT listen to WoW players. I have seen several MMO's go down hill when they start to implement WoW style raids. Examples? Rift, and GW2 are two that I experienced this with. As for guilds competing and PVPing over raid bosses... that was one of the best parts of Lineage II is that same dynamic, and it was a blast to PVP while fighting a boss. I honestly can't wait till AoC goes live... it's going to be a refreshing refresh on other smaller MMO's that rocked when they went live.

    • @Roarrior
      @Roarrior  10 місяців тому

      Is it the wow players fault? Or the devs for listening to them 🤣🤣. Also why do you think lineage died out? All we ever seem to hear is great things about it.

    @hasumoto1707 8 місяців тому

    a lot of what you said can be seen in classic WOW (era, Hardcore SoD, Wrath...) too: long leveling, PvP servers... ;) And those servers are filled with people!
    Ashes of Creation will not be everybody's cup. I fully agree to you. Probably the average PvE WOW player will not like AoC. But that's ok.
    I think it will be a game for people who like PvX content and were willing to look out of the WOW box. People who played Aion, people who loved and enjoyed Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning (Siege fights! Guard system!), people who likes Lineage 2 and Archeage 1, people who loved the PvP content in ESO, people who liked GW1 for it's classes or GW2 for it's sieges...
    I am hyped! I played a lot of PvP MMO games in the last 20 years. I talked about this with a lot of guys: The most people who don't like Ashes are the people who almost only play PVE WOW and almost never ever touched any other RPG or MMO. On the other hand when I talk to people who played other (more PVP) MMOs, they wanna see this on a successful side.
    So back to the question: is Ashes killing WOW? Proably not. But I can see a future where PvP and PvX players enjoy AoC, while (mostly PvE) players still playing WOW. And that's totally fine. Play the stuff you enjoy.
    PS: this is not meant to be mean by any way. and it's a lot of personal experience here.

    Thanks for this interesting video. The graphics are also very differents. WoW has its own slightly cartoony style, whereas AOF is based on Unreal5 and looks (especially for its environment) a lot like other MMOs on the same graphics engine. Furthermore, are players who have spent almost 10 years building up their character ready to relaunch another journey ? So I agree with you....

    As an AVID AOC fanboy, I feel like you make some great points! AOC is gonna be much different then all MMO's of today. A lot of these points you made revolve around quality of life and making sure time spent in the game is optimized like with raid times and the general "Waiting" around. I am hopeful that these perceived issues will be addressed since we're only in pre alpha currently. We'll see! Great vid though.

    To be fair, I think Ashes of Creation killed itself. If you want a course on how not to develop an mmo and market it... Ashes could be the prime example. The only game that ever has a chance to "kill wow" will be an MMO that almost comes out of nowhere and is ready to play when it is first hyped. Not years and years later when nobody cares about it anymore.

    Great video - I am probably one of the few that don't like the realism graphics in AoC, and the "spells are to flashy, remind me to much of how eastern mmorpgs look like. I am one of those that like where Pantheon rise of the fallen is heading with graphics and gameplay, and i even like the look of Monsters & Memories. I like the graphics in WoW but they have made the game waaay to casual, and there is no more rocks to turn over in classic, seen that done that. I'm probably about to pay me into prealpha in Pantheon rise of the fallen after i have seen some more progression.

    I like the concept of ashes and it's really great but as of right now i'm a bit skeptical. Wow has hardcore community playerbase who really loves punishing death mechanics but most of them aren't keen on doing pvp contents. Ashes would be the perfect niche MMO with the death penalty on lootable corpse. I would like to play it tbh

  • @yandyvieramonteserin9458
    @yandyvieramonteserin9458 10 місяців тому

    The difference on WoW and AoC, is that in Wow you only need a PvE guild to make the competitive PvE things, while in AoC that same PvE guilds will need to alliance with other PvP guild to defend them while they are doing the raids from others guild, for me is double the experience and fun to play and watch, and you will pull a lot of hard core PvP players to "PvE" with a lot of viewers.
    It will be harder to coordinate and set up those big groups for sure, but that is what hardcore players want and separate them from the rest.
    The problem I see in your analysis is you are comparing apples to pears, AoC is not a game with PvE separate of PvP as it is WoW, is a new system that merge both, and in that new system both PvE/PvP hardcore player will unite to compete

    Every other MMO that is a sandbox instead of theme park has died or settled with a low pop. AOC is built for a large healthy pop, a problem for any game, but a massive issue for a sandbox because the players make the content. Sadly even if AOC is everything it claims I believe the player base isn't there. Oh the "players" will say they want this type if game but if you build it they don't come.

    WoW will not be killed anytime soon, because WoW was a cultural phenomenon and people's childhoods are linked to it. Therefore, if it actually died, it will almost necessarily exists until the millennial generation is quite old, if not mostly deceased. That, or Blizzard shuts it down for WoW2, but even that is unlikely. No game can kill WoW, even if it is of better quality, though it may entice away some of its players.

    WoW is already dead, there is some hype on classic and SOD, but on retail... THey simply cant get new players. Because the whole game desinged for the top 1% and the whales. Those who instant buying every new shit from the store and enjoying the bot made gold/boost community services. Chris Metzen maybe can write some good lore, but he cannot fix the whole rotten core of this game. As long as blizzard making money on bots instead of banning them all. I wouldn't say wow is on top as it shares that spot with FF14 and other mmo's are doing just fine with the players they have. So no one game will ever kill wow or any other mmo for that matter. it's always been a dumb topic anyway.

    Honestly, Ashes of Creation to me looks bland as hell. Sure, it could be a solid game, but to me whenever I look at it I just don't feel excited.
    My prediction is we will all try it for 2 months then a small core audience will stay and love it, and most of us will leave.

  • @dogtags2010
    @dogtags2010 10 місяців тому

    The game looks great but i honestly dont think forcing the game to be pvp only and forced groups for ecerything is a no nowadays. There is a reason why warcraft has started making the game solo friendly with elite group quests dying out, dungeon followers, etc. Majority of mmo players enjoy solo content and being able to enjoy the world without being ganked. Big mistake i think forcing pvp only servers and making you need groups. You lose out on all the gamers that have families and jobs. Unemployed and gimps will love aoc if they dedicate their whole days to it but average joe logging in to farm a few items for an hour and getting ganked constantly will just go back to wow.
    Streamers will love this game though and their followers, that will keep the game going for a while but without solo friendly content the game will never beat wow or even come close to its numbers.

      Warcraftlogs shows 10,769,222 logged parses over the last 2 weeks for all regions, while I know a chunk of these are from the same character running multiple dungeons, that's still a crap load of runs. And this is just mythic +. I didn't run the logs for raids and there is also normal and leveling dungeons to consider. 2.5 million logging in daily may have even been under cutting it.

      @Roarrior  10 місяців тому

      I don't take SoD seriously. It is a season afterall and has been stated to be experimental. If SoD feedback and player count has the potential to kill retail then I would agree with you. But a year from now SoD will be just a memory and none of this will matter. Blizzard did state they have no intention of rolling it into BC and WotLK. If it remains popular we might see it become more permanent.

    Looking at teh gameplay you showed, no. It will not destroy wow.
    This has been through the years, only wow will destroy wow.
    They almost destroyed it themselves when they announce things and people judge before playing (cause blizz werent that great at announcing things they themselves thinks are the amazing).
    wow have had to many years to get people nostalgic for it and the characters they have created, one of the reason we never have a "wow 2.0", they would be scared no one would play it cause your characters wont be there etc etc.
    and since bobby is gone, it will take even longer before wow dies out completely.

    WoW killed itself. Lets not bother doing the "WoW Killer" stuff. Ashes of Creation is its own thing. Hopefully they provide a real next generation MMORPG and the AAA scumbag studios come back down to earth when all their games lose 50% + of its players to AoC. Hopefully this game is full launched sometime in 2025.

      If it was easy everyone would have mythic keystone master and Cutting edge for the season. And they don't. The fact is while add-ons greatly assist with a lot of aspects of the game the human error still exists. I'm interested to see how the players who have relied on add-ons for years handle a game that doesn't allow them 🤣. It'll be a sight for sure.

    AoC is an odd duck IMO. I think they're creating a game that is going to appeal to an older gamer generation .... that might not have the time and desire to be as dedicated to this game, as this game is going to need its player base to be for it to function the way they want it to work. Kill WoW, highly doubtful. Honestly, I think AoC will be one of two things. A moderate success or a colossal failure.
