I was fortunate enough to live with Mike and Terry Elderedge in the early 90s. Later,Mike introduced me to Charlie Sizemore and I got to know Tom T and Miss Dixie. I was in attendance at Bubs wedding and it was one of the best weddings I ever attended. Later, Tom T and Dixie would go on bus trips w Charlie's band. If you never had the pleasure of meeting them, they were the finest folks you could possibly know. Once, on a bus trip, Tom T slept in my bunk out of a bus with 11 other bunks to choose from, Tom T crushed a brand new pair of $150 sunglasses I had in the bunk....I still have the remains of said sunglasses. Dixie was British and loved to give me a hard time and if she liked you she'd bust your ass.....I feel honored that she busted my ass so many times. Tom T would get me to mix when we'd record at their place. I owe Bub for so many great things in my life. Thanks Bub!

I learned all those songs and when the Miss Dixie CD came out I bought it for dad and we had a great time learning those songs.

Mike Bub has got some great stories! These "interviews" are like sitting in someone's living room and listening to a good storyteller. Otis you could teach a seminar on how to conduct a good interview. You just let your guests talk with minimal input or interruption on your part. Reminds me of Bob Edward's, ( a Louisville boy!), when he hosted Morning Edition on NPR. He didn't get in the way of the guests. I can't stand when an interviewer constantly interrupts the guests or rambles on just to himself talk.

Otis, I enjoy what you do here. And if I may, I want to say something about the Weary Hearts. They paid us a visit at the Strange Family Bluegrass Festival in Texarkana Texas in the late 80s. Mike Bub is world famous as a bass player. But he played banjo with the Weary Hearts and he made most other banjo players sound like they doing it wrong. Bub is a PLAYER.

Hello Otis you guys knocked it out of the park with this one...thanks...My all time favorite was "I Remember the day Clayton Delaney Died" And yes I did see Tom T. perform way back in the mid-1970's. It was at Kentuck Territory I believe it was called in Western KY down near Kentucky Lake. I was young and dumb and full of some and had a dream of becoming a "song writer" At the end of the show Tom signed autographs for a good long time. When I finally got to him he autographed a nice photo of him I had bought and still have on the wall as I type these words. Hell I wasn't but twenty-years old or so, after he autographed the photo I got up the nerve to tell him I wanted to be a songwriter and could he give me any advice? He had a sort of curious look on his face and glanced over his shoulder towards Nashville and said "Son, Nashville is only a couple hours in that direction" and then smiled, probably the best advice I had ever been given that I didn't take.

I saw Mike Bub and Chuck Mead in the crowd at a Blasters show in Nashville. It was at Exit In about ten years ago. I already thought they were cool guys but they went to another level for me that night.
I also highly, highly recommend making a stop at the visitors center in Tom T’s hometown, Olive Hill, Kentucky. It is basically a Tom T museum and most of the memorabilia came directly from Tom T. The lady who works there is wonderful and had some personal interactions with Tom.

was lucky enough to get to spend time with Tom T. Hall as his hearing aid provider in Brentwood. I love horse racing, and Tom T loved to bet the horses, but instead of handicapping like most of us do Tom was into numerology. He said “I’d look at all the numbers as I traveled to a gig. I’d look at the numbers on the cabbie license as I rode to the airport. I’d look at the numbers on my airline ticket. I’d look at my hotel room number. I’d look at the numbers on the dollar bills I had in my wallet, and if I saw a pattern, I would get the club owner to give me my pay upfront and I’d head out to the races and I’d bet the numbers that were running strong all day”

My favorite Tom T. song has changed depending on what era of life I happened to be in: "I Love" was great when I was a kid in the 70's but as I grew older and dug deeper in his catalog I found there were songs of his for nearly every phase of my "grown-up" life.
Yes, I saw him "live" -ish, once...at a red light in Antioch, TN when I was living in Smyrna. I threw up my index finger on the steering wheel like we used to in the country and he returned the same gesture just like we were passing each other on some back road up near Olive Hill! What a great interview about one of the all-time greats!
