- In this week’s video we begin work on a new coop for our peafowl, aka the Shwoos, and start tidying up the land in front of our house. Slow living at our remote country house in Scotland.
Living in Scotland in a 300-year-old country house. This is a record of our life renovating an historic house in Scotland and using our land as a homestead to enable us to live as sustainably as we can - almost off grid!

Just a helpful tip from a mother and daughter team living rurally in Florida. When picking up all the limbs from the previous winter, get a big tarp or even an old piece of fencing. Lay it out on the ground and pile your limbs on it. Tie some ropes to the corners and when it's all loaded up, the two of you then drag it to the burn pile and dump it off! It's so much easier than moving it a few yards at a time! 😊
"Shwertilizer"was the punchline, Gail! 😂 You live such serene, yet hardworking, creative lives and are always a joy to watch and listen to, but it is really the quiet humor and playful spirit you both maintain that makes your channels so engaging. What a delightful family. Thank you for letting us enjoy your lovely little world.
Who are the fellows? Family, or videographers? You two seem to be tireless. God job ladies! 🌷
here in rural albuquerque area, when we take branches, etc to the dump, all wood products including branches and unwanted logs (!) go to an enormous pile, pushed up towards the center by enormous bulldozers. one learns to put a rope, chain or cable into the truck bed lengthwise in the center then pile on brush, then get in there and mince it with a chainsaw if needed, tie the rope, etc in a loop and when you get to the dump station the guys will tug the whole thing off with the dozer in a trice. they have enormous shredders which can mince entire trees. then it's 5 dollars per truckload to buy.
From Philippines sending Love❤❤❤
I'm a mother of two boys from from Florida. I have an acre and a half property I wish that I had known that. I'm going to take that into consideration for when I'm back down in Florida.😊 CL
If reality TV were like this, I would own a television.
Your videos are just so calming and comforting, I can't even put words to it. I'm going through a tough time and I really appreciate all the time and care you put into these, they are so beautifully done. The editing and music are always perfect, it really hits my soul somehow. Cheers.
I hope things are looking up❣️
@repeatdefender6032, I own a television set 📺, but don't have cable so I can't watch it.
@@grettagirl2884can’t you connect your iPad or device you watch this channel on, to your tv via a cable wire from device to tv?
You should introduce Tom since we haven't seen him before. I'm guessing he's your son/brother (depending on who's reading this)?
I am enjoying seeing more of your homestead and life beyond mudlarking. You have a lovely mother daughter relationship and it draws me in. Thanks for sharing.
Greensleves, snow, deer and Mudlarking Barbie (who deserves a sequel film) just lovely. What a beautiful place you live and you all work so hard. Love the peacocks checking in on every move you make….shoowtiliser! I did laugh😂. Thank you and I’m so invested in your new channel ❤
I happen to live in a medieval castle in the Netherlands and we find and found lots of medieval things in our garden, like plates and so called beardmen( a sort of vase which was typical for this provence). You live very beautiful with the hills and woods, i love Schotland ❤ this village where I live, was freed by the scots in WW 2. In June we have a so called open garden day and I hired a bagpipe band to give it a Scotland vibe.
Your castle sounds amazing. We have done some metal detecting here and found some post medieval things xx
@@TheLostTowerDiaries Yes, we did that too, but only one coin found, very old one.
So much work to retain your lifestyle but what peace of mind you must have. So serene. I live vicariously through your videos. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
Style of living I love what you have. All that countryside the deer etc etc. Love it to bits. Thank you again for sharing
I can't wait to see the shwoo pen all completed. Nice idea to keep them safe when your away. Loving your new channel. 👍
I love the new channel! Thank you so much for documenting all the steps you had to go through to give brown shwoo some company. Never ever did I think I would see you unwrapping a box from the post office with peacock eggs! They are some very lucky schwoo's to have people that love and care for them so thoughtfully 💗
It's nice to see alex's brother helping out ❤😊
I love these videos, so calming and peaceful they really recharge the batteries. The only thing, they are not long enough......
Don't worry ladies, cannon balls were all made from solid metal, the number on the side should be its metric weight. So fascinating story about your Grandfather, would love to see what else he salvaged. You have a lovely old property, what is the history of it ..may be another video .... great video, much love from Wiltshire 💕😍💕💕😍💕
Yes please!
Could you have a pile of stuff somewhere rather than burn it, it would be a great place for precious insects and other creatures 😊
This weeks episode feels much like a home stay - very interesting and very inspiring

Are you a widow and has alex ever married
The music, sound, and atmosphere are blended so seamlessly and add layers of texture I am in awe of. Thank you.
Cant get enough of your new channel. I love watching you two on the farm.😊
Love the new channel! Thank you for more of your farm too 😍 Many of my favorite episodes have been about your home and property. I hope you eventually find more artifacts and the location of your tower!
I’ve been thinking of you two for the last few days! I’m a bit of a history buff and watch a lot of documentaries; I’ve been wondering if your tower was either directly next to your home, (such as the house was built attached to the tower), or if they built the home over the already dug tower basement. It was not uncommon to repurpose crumbling or destroyed ruins. Have you been able to find the original plans or blueprints for your property, or have you researched local churches for documentation/mention of your tower? What about the Doomsday book? I know you probably want to keep your location private, but I would love to be able to help you do research! In regards to finding some iron or other artifacts, what you could do is to map out your property into sections with twine and stakes, then spray paint those sections and methodically go through the sections with a metal detector. It would be ideal if you could reach out to some local archeological departments or universities and give them permission to do some digs, since your land is historical! You might even be able to apply for grants or trusts from local historical preservation societies. If you reach out, you might be able to get someone who would volunteer services, such as ground-penetrating radar. You could also make a Go Fund Me account to procure enough funds to rent a machine. Either way, what an exciting journey you are all on! I really appreciate you two bringing us with you on it. 😊❤PS, it’s really nice watching you and friends/family sitting and chatting over tea. Some UA-camrs have channels just for that- you could record yourselves sitting and discussing behind the scenes stuff.
Much love from Wisconsin, USA🥰
Hi family, wondering if you could give us some more info about ur homestead, neighbors & family history w/ ur land. 💗 vlog T.lo
Most impressed with your construction abilities ladies, also with the video content and music. Very well done. May I please add a 'gentle' suggestion to Alex; When using a rotary power mower or a strimmer it would be wiser (and safer) to wear more suitable footwear. Also, I know from experience, that chopped up nettle leaves really do hurt your eyes so goggles are more than just a good idea. Stay safe.🙂
The scenery is beautiful and I am sure the air is so pure! I live in a crowded city and often wonder how clean the air I breathe daily is!
As others have offered, I too, LOVE your new channel ❤!
I’m loving this channel already.
Enjoyed seeing more of where you live. Hopefully the rest of pen comes together without any problems. Can’t wait to see more!
Love the new channel. It's absolutely lovely to see the work you are doing on your beautiful home. Thank you for sharing it.
I've been watching your videos for a long time. Very nice to be visiting your home again. I enjoyed your digs you shared. I always wanted to see more of the property. What a beautiful place... You both are very hard workers and probably don't get the praise you deserve...I hope to enjoy your new channel as much as the old ones.,,as I've watched them all. Blessings for your ventures
By far the best thing on youtube well done
Hello girls, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy watching your videos. You have a lovely home and. I also love your pea hens. You two inspire me to do more around my home.
It's beautiful how you & your mum work together ❤🎉
I absolutely adore your new channel, I am so glad you decided to share your home life with us. Love your home and property too!
Love the new channel. You can tip the mower to the side and pour some of the oil out. Not the best to run over full.
Always magical....yes! even mowing and putting together a shroo pen! lovenur new series
i live in portland, oregon where our once beautiful city has been greatly changed by the homeless problem. u are so blessed to live in such a beautiful, peaceful open space away from such problems.
My sister just put one of those pens up to keep her chickens in, I am putting one up around my highbush blueberries next Spring to keep wild turkeys out.
What a beautiful place you have! Thanks for sharing.
Your property and home are so lovely. It seems so peaceful. I must admit I’m jealous!
I’m curious how long you have lived there. Also - how many animals do you own?
I love that you two women work good together and know how to work- my mom and I were like that too. We were raised to help and build and farm and raise livestock. my children were raised that way to. I will enjoy the journey watching you all.
Thank you for sharing. I am from Deep South Texas U.S.A. Till next time
Swhootilyzer, love that bit. Good for small swhoo to have a safe place, so she doesn’t have to roost in a tree, where you can’t rescue her. I’ve subscribed.
Loved it all of it and nice to see the shroos again and I see you now have a cock bird. Love all your different coloured hens too. I love my girls I have 5 full size egg layers and one very very old bantam who lives on her own and likes grapes for breakfast. We are silly with our birds arn't we? Well I am they are part of my family. You got on well that day till it started to rain.
I love this new channel.
Love your mudlarking all this time and now this channel !
Please keep them coming. So relaxing.
You’re all so peaceful and I’m enamoured with just how “regular folks” you are
There is nothing nicer than watching people working hard, when you are tucked up in bed.
There's nothing like living in the countryside and working outdoors, you never have problems sleeping and feel much better for it.
Loved it . Flat packs are something I hate I always leave them for mick as you can imagine . Really can’t wait for the next episode … Alex socks and crocs … what’s happened there … lol keep the content coming x
Thanks Sarah! What can I say - Alex is a trend setter, lol xx
That was lovely ! I’ve always hoped that you would do something like this. Thank you for sharing your protects with us 🙏 lovely footage of the sunshine on the Forsythia ❤
Neglected land is another way of saying rewilding.
With the ca.era on speed up looks like your mom is chasing the peacocks and then the peacocks are chasing her. To funny
The thing people need to remember is that this life may look peaceful and idyllic, but it's also hard work with a risk of low returns. In this world, what you put in is what you get back.
I for one would like to hear how you ladies found and purchased your home. Your thoughts and dreams. Etc
think they are looking for bugs they are smarter than they look
My favorite Ladies. With a new channel, dreams do come true, so greatful you live in a awesome place and share your journey. Xoxo Montreal Canada
Hope Barbie isn’t supposed to mean death to that sweet deer. 🙁
Love the Barrie/Bambi combo in the opening sequemce. 🤣🙌❤️
Such a dreamy house, so excited to see more. Warm regards from South Africa
I've just discovered this channel, after watching you both for years mudlarking.😂
Looking at the paddock you have to mow, it might be worth considering geese, they are great at keeping the grass down and you get the benefit of the eggs, and they are superb guardians and will let you know if something is around.
Even if you house them somewhere else, you could use them to keep the grass in order.
My grandmother had two geese on her property, very little trouble and no visits from foxes either, we used to feed them a supplementary diet of maize and any leftover veg from the kitchen.
Best wishes from Wales.
Every time I watch the Midsomer Murders episode 'Death and Dreams' I think of you. The actress (Anna Maguire) that plays the youngest murdering sibling looks and sounds just like a younger version of you.
I live on a Concil Eastate in Liverpool so to watch you both in such beautiful countryside with your beautiful birds is a breath of fresh air to me! Thanks 🦚🦚🦚
Is that your brother, boyfriend, husband or hired help? I often wonder about your personal life even thought it's really non of my business.
An American would get a ride-on mower for a yard half that size.
The birds are curious. Me that sounds more positive than nosy.
I believe that there is nothing you two cannot accomplish! With all of the hard work you do around the property you must get immense satisfaction as you tackle and overcome each obstacle. The two of you are a formidable team. I would love to be part of an archeological team there. Love history! Do take care of your selves as you tackle all of this hard work. Your videos are the very best and I love watching them!
I have always loved watching people in other places and countries working on their homes and land. And seeing their ideas helps me get ideas for my place. I love watching you two digging for treasure, and now get to watching your home life is just awesome. By the way I love your house!
Music is just too loud compared to your voices, constantly having to adjust volume up and down on all of your videos.😊
Dear Gail and Alex do you have a P.O box I would like to send you a teeny present. You are such lovely ladies complements go without saying! You say you read all comments so let me know. Tara me babbies, look after ya selves, stay owt the ' oss road as we say to those we like here in the Black Country! Xxx
Also, you ought to use gloves when moving limbs, debris, rocks, etc to help preserve your hand health. I broke my finger using a pair of pruners with both hands (and no gloves) The finger on the hand underneath got crushed by the outer hand. With gloves I think it may not have happened.
The chickens are so healthy & robust.
Do you farm the land around your house? It looks lkke there is lots to do to keep you busy. And is your special guest your older brother? Have a great week.
How long have you lived there..
You need to
Invest in a topper to do that every year better than a lawn mower. The grass will improve too.
RAY,45.USA no words to describe the pleasure these new vids empart wounderfully warm and heartfelt keep them comming.
Love the new channel ladies! Would love to hear more about the history of the house.
BTW, I hope the pen has the right,
"Feng-Shwoo "
Are you kidding me with the state the fence parts were shipped in? LOL The little bits should of been in a zip-loc bag. Goodness.
Looks like you really need a wheelbarrow.
If u tilt the mower back too far it will smoke like that also cus the oil get into the air filter when it is tipped back too long
Love it!! Day to Day fun in Shwooville. But I do wish a new name could be given in place of runty shwoo, it just seems demeaning. How about pee-wee. O well you know what fits bests. I think the world of all your channels.
Wow, your Mom is fast at mowing. Lol
Is that your brother? Does he live with you all the time?
You ladies are awesome! Love this channel!
YOU TWO ARE AMAZING!!! 😁
Your property is a dream! Lots of work but well worth it! Thank you for sharing and I look forward to the next one! 😍
It’s so nice to see the shwoos🦚🦚🦚 in their little flock! Aw. Brown Shwoo is so sweet. I also love how you provide extra care for the little white one (Runt?), as she is blind. 🥰
The cannonball is called round shot, and came in smaller and larger sizes. It’s just filled with metal (and some are clay)- nothing explosive.
I see a lot of chickens! Have you made a coop for them?
I love homesteading and am so excited to see the projects you are going to do around your place! It’s fun getting to see your historic home and watching you guys being on your own land, working it like they have been doing for thousands of years. You never know what exciting things will be found!
There will be famines coming with war and drought, so planting your own crops now is very smart.
You’ll find the tower, I’m sure, because one day you’ll find some iron or maybe even the pantry or basement of it. You may have to dig down much deeper where you excavated, at least 6 feet, because it would have been filled in over the centuries with lots of soil.
Do you guys have a well? Maybe that would be a good idea to look for and dig out or even dig another one. Towers are usually stationed by waterways and springs. I’d say that your family is very blessed.😊❤
Who is the young man on the scene?
You 2 are more talented than me, putting that pen together... 😀 Looving your NEW adventures channel... 😘😘😘
Hello Gail and Alex! Really enjoyed seeing everyday life on the farm. Looking forward to seeing the Shwoo coop. Have a lovely week...Big ((Hugs)) and Love from Texas!!🤗🦚💙
Is that gremlin I hear?
Just a thought - if you don't anchor the shwoo cage down, a good wind could pick it up and blow it into the house or the next county.
It happens with trampolines in the US quite often.
No instructions?? That was horrifying. Glad you found them, lol.
It was wonderful seeing the babies hatch and grow up.
Your 300 year old house is awesome.❤
It's hilarious how the birds are not even fazed by the machinery. LOL Yardwork is hardwork that's for sure and chores on a farm are neverending. You guys have a beautiful farm and great views it must be a treat to wake up to that every morning. Great work but I know I would have left it the box once I saw all the parts! LOL :) :)
Wow😁👍 you girls are really something!!!
There is nothing you cant fix!
Amazing to follow...greetings from Sweden🇸🇪
lovely music.
Really enjoyed your new channel
Love the Schwoo’s and was sorry to hear of your loss of one of your beloved Schwoos and what a delight to see the eggs arrive and watched in fascination at their progress.
We’re I live we have wallabies come and visit us on a daily basis and enjoy getting to see all the different personalities.
Love you two❤
great new channel, loving the peace and quiet of your home, lucky peacock and shrew beautiful birds. thank you
I was so pleased to see you got some peacock eggs. I felt ever so sorry when one of your birds disappeared, leaving the girl without her sister. I didnt know you'd got the eggs and hatched them so it was a happy surprise for me! Love your new channel, and a big hello from me in wintertime New Zealand. Luckily I'm on the east coast NI..and it doesn't snow here..
Thank you.
Love the new channel !!! ❤
So much work to do. 😎
Love the new channel ladies. Lovely to see the shwoos getting big pen. They will be safe there while you are out exploring. Looking forward to hearing more about the tower. I think we may know which one you are looking for. Don't worry, our lips are sealed! Lots of love from The Reiverlarks ❤
Beautiful
