Hey personal story. About 10-12 years ago I met John through a friend of his and had the pleasure of working with him as I recorded him for a student project (pretty sure he did as a favor to a friend who is not me lol) and he was genuinely awesome. Not only did he lay down a kick ass song that I still sing to myself I think he called it "Goes down in flames" but he also joked and actually taught me a lot about audio engineering. He was infinitely more professional and talented than I'll ever have a right to be. But he truly was a kind person to a young kid just trying to learn how to record and mix music. Thanks man I still appreciate it.
My pleasure! So many people have shared their time, talent, and expertise with me over the years, so I'm always happy to pay it forward. Can you send a link to that tune, or post it here? The official title is "Sirens," btw. I've still never done a full studio production of it, but I'd love to hear your mix!
Cool Cool bro. Sorry I'm just now getting back to you but I have been busy. Band broke up so back to a solo gig at the moment. Maybe it's spose to be that way but your solo performances rock. www.delallctrl.com
this just absolutly rocks, great live performance. The person that disliked this has no taste in music, performance and art. all I can say is just this is an awesome performance. Rock on John.
Holy hell, man. Rarely do I see a Zep cover that I really enjoy, never mind of Kashmir... AND solo acoustic? You just blew my mind. Amazing control over your powerful voice, great funky flow and absolutely superb guitar work! You're like some kind of one man rock battalion on a warpath to DESTROY that song (in the best way possible!). Don't know how I hadn't come across your stuff earlier but I'm going to definitely keep an eye on your work now. Rock on!
I saw you perform this during a solo 'workshop' show at Zach Scott many many years ago. It floored me then and has continued stick in my mind as one of the most amazing live performances I've seen. I like to come back to UA-cam now and then to relive that experience.
John is a great musician as a guitarist (with a lot of percussion and tapping tricks) and as a singer; he uses the stompbox with both feet and he does beat box in a very clever way: he is a real one man band! when he plays and sings he gives all his energies, he is a great performer and a rousing entertainer, but he is also a very nice person with a lot of good feeling i had the honour to listen to him just yesterday, in Italy i suggest to look for his live performances, they are a wonderful experience! (sorry for my english)
I have seen John several times playing with my neighbor Ginger Leigh. I have shared this clip with friends all over the world. In fact, I just sent a friend in Australia the link ten minutes ago.
UR a BEAST ! I keep coming back to this video. I missed u when u came to Heartwood Soundstage in Gainesville. I hope u come back someday. I wish u excellent health !
@lax2440 I couldn't agree more..... wowiiiiieeeeee!!!!! I saw John for the first time on 12/10/11 at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, CA. It was his first US show as a member of The House Jacks. I was a little shocked when they did this song (they had regularly performed it years ago with a different lineup), but the more I listen to & watch John's version, the more I like it. :-)
Wow John!!! I can still recall those days in Slauson Middle School Jazz band when you used to break out into solos of Stairway to Heaven. I guess you've come a long way since then. Remember me on the trombone? If not, I understand. I wasn't very good :(
John, WHERE ARE YOU MAN? I just nominated you on a YT poll for best guitarist! I saw you in Dallas 1 time a LOOOONG time ago, and have been wanting to see you again!
Valerie Foster Thank you! I’ve been mostly on the road with The House Jacks since about 2011. I also published a book based on a post I wrote that went viral, and keep performing as a soloist as well as with my bolero group, Trio Los Vigilantes. That said, I’m still trying to crack the “success code.” I seem to be a little too old to be a UA-cam sensation, a little too obscure to just hit the road hoping I can break anyone’s Netflix binge long enough to come to a show , and a little too esoteric for managers, publicists, and booking agents to take on. But if you have any ideas, I’m all ears!
Wow.......I'm still in shock after watching this 4 times in a row.....I clicked on this after finding alice covering kashmir and thought that was the absolute greatest cover I have ever heard of a zeppelin song....HOLY JESUS ON A SKATEBOARD! Absolutely amazing!! I agree with ZoracKy, if anyone types kashmir on youtube this should be first in the search results....and he does it the greatest way possible, acoustic :) Thank you John Pointer for putting a huuuge fucking smile on my face tonight!!
Holy shit!!! This was really good!!! Dear UA-cam, please consider do some improvements on this search algorithm to start listening to the videos and see that things like this one is really awesome and should be the first result when someone searches for "Kashmir Acoustic"
I saw you at Monte Montgomery's birthday party this year. TBH, I thought you were the best part of the whole show. Especially your performance of this song.
I've tried to watch this video for the past oh....2, 3 years maybe longer...it just stops loading after 15 seconds or so. Tonight I just watched this in it's entirety and it made just as happy as the first time I watched it a really really long time ago. It is still the best acoustic performance I have ever seen. THE best led zeppelin cover. Ever. By anyone anwhere. Don't know if I get to enjoy this video ever again....but I am super grateful I finally got to see the crazy last 4 mins of this....so fucking epic. Thank you, stopping typing to hopefully watch this again. :D
This guy is insane. I was skeptical clicking on the link and was floored. I've seen full bands cover this song and not even close to what this guy pulled off. Yet another reason why UA-cam is the shit!
What a shame. That audience was dead from the neck up. No clue what a masterpiece they were witnessing. This guy slayed o e if the best renditions of Kashmir let alone doing it ALONE
how talented do you got to be to accomplish that.... more than about anybody in the damn world. congrats thats amazing. i CANT BRUSH MY TEETH AND SHIT....lol good luck i hope you do well
@johnpointer Any chance you could put up plans or a picture and let me know what material was used in making it? I'd love to do something like it and can't find it anywhere. PS great job on this song, AMAZING!!!!
Very very good. Tough crowd though, I'll assume they weren't all hardcore Zepp fans else they'd have screamed the orchestral parts at the tops of their lungs to you.

I love it when UA-cam reminds me of one of the best performers I’ve ever seen live! Gets me in the soul every time!!!
You're welcome. I read these all personally, and this really put a smile on my face, too. Thank you.
Hands down.....sickest cover of Zeppelin on UA-cam, your talent is too big for that venue, 185 subscribers is criminal. Keep it going!
ive seen this like 12 times and i still get shivers when i watch it. the whole thing is just magnificent
I saw him do this live at Antone’s in Austin years ago. Simply phenomenal.
Many years have passed since I discovered this magnificent performance and still I come back to it. Thank you John!
No Words. I think he has been with the elders which the world has in fact seldom seen
Haha! The Elders told me to tell you thanks, Carl Hamby

I can't believe you didn't get a roaring standing ovation for this. Beyond incredible performance!

The groove hits you in the core even after listening to it for several times after uploading! Easily one of the best performance of Kashmir

John Morelli - thanks!

You are brilliant Dude...
Well done for doing this on your own..;-)
who the hell is this guy??? that was great!
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!! :)
The guy has attached drum triggers to his guitar top!
I haven't, but... that is a great idea! I just weave the stomps, beatboxing, and percussive picking together to cover the drums.
Hell yah.
FANTASTIC!!!!!! Why isn't this guy on the front of Rolling Stone????
Thanks so much, @GreatRecordings! In fairness to Rolling Stone, I have successfully avoided *_every magazine cover on the planet!_* #nailedit
My first thought after watching this...is John Pointer single?
Thanks man.
WOW !!! Monster cover!!! Was the audio break planned? If it was it sucked the life out of it.
Oh My God
Holy. Shit.
Led Zeppelin meets The Fat Boys. Never thought I'd hear Kashmir beatboxed. :)
Strangely compelling, though. Well done!
that one person who disliked this probably just missed the like button by acident lol
way to fight through the technical difficulties man, and do it as smooth as you could!!! great rendition too man, that was just tits.
Sick as fuck.
are you using a resonance board? I use those at work with my kids.
Very very good.
Tough crowd though, I'll assume they weren't all hardcore Zepp fans else they'd have screamed the orchestral parts at the tops of their lungs to you.
who says we can't multitask
1 Dislike?? Someone who is probably deaf.
Jimmy Page disliked this one time
That deserved a standing ovation. Horrible audience.
This is awsome.....
