I love the fact that you are so concerned with documenting the History of "Small Town" America. Progress can be very sad with the loss of buildings like the High School.I am now a "Loyal" watcher. Please keep them coming.

I was born and raised in Northern Va but my entire family (Mullins') have been in Pound since setting up camp in the late 1700s . I spent every summer in Pound growing up and loved every second of it. Unfortunately, the last 2 times I have been there it's been to bury my "Nanny" and "Papaw." I now live in Washington state, which seems like an entire world away and most definitely a different world as far as culture and upbringing, but watching this video and hearing yall's accents just gave me a little slice of "down home" as we would call it. Thank you guys so much. I didn't know how much I needed this video.

Thank you for the video :-) I would like to add also that my grandmother's house was in your drive-thru. According to my grandmother the reason for the town being called THE pound is because before there was an actual town there was a grain pound. The people that had settled in the area farmed their land and often had to go to the pound to have their grains, that were harvested, processed at the grain pound, so therefore The Pound, as the town that grew around it came to be called.

Enjoyed your video of the Pound. Just a few notes: Pound High School opened 11/30/1953 and closed 6/10/2011. And the present-day town hall was opened in 1924 as Christopher Gist High School. It burnt and was rebuilt a couple times. It served at Pound Elementary School, a funeral home and now town hall. Thanks for visiting The Pound.

I installed the sprinkler system in the Red Onion mountain SuperMax. It’s a modular building where each cell was prefabricated and placed individually like building blocks. The windows were around 3’ tall and maybe 3 or 4 inches wide. They then sandblasted them so it let in light, but you couldn’t see outside.

I'm looking to retire and move out of the city life, to the mountains of some almost forgotten coal mining town where I can walk the old train tracks and bridges to fishing spots where my dogs and I can catch a nap,...errr some fish. Yeah, fish.
I'm really digging these video's you two keep posting because they give me insight in many ways, as to what I'll find and the topography surrounding these towns. Thank you for this. They've been a huge inspiration for me and my spirit.
I'm seriously considering looking into renting near the city proper while also looking for land on the outskirts of town. Even land locked property with a deeded access looks promising in these parts of the Appalachian's, as I'd be ever further off "the beaten path", with even less noise to deal with. I'm sure my old dogs will appreciate the retired life as well, shiznit... I may even go all Grizzly Adams and go totally #OffGridLife if I can find a spot with water running through it !
Thank's again for these video's folks and I'll look into the patreon thingy you mentioned.
Safe travels, and peace be with you and yours...

13:00 I had moved to NC by the time of the DC area sniper, but I remember the time clearly. The first victims were less than a mile from where my parents lived. Dad had to go to the ER with a collapsed lung that day, and the doctor who treated him had seen some of the victims immediately beforehand. Dad was amazed at how that doctor went through such an ordeal and then came to him like nothing had happened.

On one of my cross US road trips, this time from Baltimore to Billings via Appomattox Court House, I had the pleasure of driving through Bluefield to Welch to Oceana and Logan and loved every minute. Since getting back my interest in Appalachia, its towns and history has continued to grow. You have been of great assistance. Hello guys! I liked seeing the video on Pound. It brough back memories of when I was a kid traveling from Michigan to my grannies home on a ridge near Fremont. We would pass through Pound and Clintwood. The last time I passed through Pound, was with my brother on motorcycles in 2004. Also, during the trial of Gary Powers, my grandmother, somehow knew his father and talked to him in Jenkins, Ky. We were all in my dad's car and he came out from his shoe repair shop and talked to us along the curb. I was 12 at the time. Wow. Thanks for the great video. Later.👍

I can remember going to eat at the Little Red Caboose when I was a student at Clinch Valley College in the mid 1990s. One of the two friends I went with bought a 1970s model Cadillac Eldorado that was setting there. The vehicle had several flat tires. My friend told me that the Caboose is now closed. It’s so depressing thinking about how things have changed. Especially when you showed Pound High School being demolished. Thanks for sharing!

That was a nice drive. Beautiful town. But, I agree, so very sad to see the school being demolished. I can remember when Belspring Elementary School was torn down. I was already in Dublin High school but I can remember being so upset. Our house is just up the hill from where it was. It's lot is used seldomly as a baseball field, there are some playground items that are in need of repair & it has a small covered picnic area with tables that sometimes get vandalized. Those still attending Belspring Elementary were bussed to the old Riverlawn Elementary school. My son attended there up to 5th grade. Then a new school was built for Riverlawn & my grandson was very happy there. Dublin High became Dublin Middle School where my son & grandson went from 6th to 8th grades. The Pulaski County High School was built combining the 2 schools of Dublin & Pulaski while I was in 10th grade at Dublin High school. I was in the 2nd graduating class of PCHS in 1976! Have I managed to confuse y'all? Lol! Now there is a new Middle school, new Elementary school & some improvements are in order for PCHS. My grandson will be a senior there next year! Good gosh I'm OLD! Y'all can bring back some old memories with your travels! I really enjoy them, tho, since I'm not able to get out much anymore. Y'all please stay safe & God bless! 🤗

Thank you for another wonderful video! It is such a sad thing when old houses, buildings or schools are torn down. Nice school.
I was wondering what your travels limits are regarding WV. I would like to recommend a wonderful old historic town you might enjoy visiting - Lewisburg. If you begin driving in Charleston on Rt. 60 to Lewisburg, you will have an opportunity to actually the beauty of the mountains in WV which is very different from some of the towns you visited in southern WV. On Rt. 60, you will pass Hawks Nest State Park where you will want to stop and visit and perhaps have lunch in the lodge. If so, you might want to call ahead to find out what days the restaurant is open. There are several historic buildings to visit in historic Lewisville. One of those is the historic Lewisburg Inn which offers wonderful lodging with antiques in several of the rooms. The food is great.
About 10 miles down the road on Rt. 60 from Lewisburg is White Sulphur Spring where the Greenbriar is located. Many presidents have visited the beautiful white building. The grounds are immaculate. You might want to walk inside the building to see some historic architecture. The White House (as WVirginians call it) was at one time the place where the President of the United States and family would be taken in case our country would be invaded by a foreign nation.
Again, stay safe on the road.
