The gentleman that was sitting there staring was half of the folk/pop duo C'est Si Bon, who did Korean adaptations of western hits in the late '60s/early '70s and were the featured guest on this episode of Immortal Songs - MMM were covering C'est Si Bon's version. The lyrics aren't a direct translation in part because there were prohibitions on talking about things like murder (hence this version speaks about "revenge"). Plus, of course, we have Byul's amazing self-written rap, which was a special addition to the song for this cover. :)
p.s. I indeed know Tom Jones - his songs were all over the radio when I was a kidlet. You may also like MMM's Immortal Songs cover of Wonderful Confession by Yoon Soo-Il, who was an icon in the early '80s. Different style from Mr. Jones, but he has a lot of swagger. The whole episode with all the groups covering Yoon Soo-Il is super-fun, though you probably wouldn't be able to get away with reacting to a full ep, sadly.
This performance ignited my interest in Kpop and the Korean music scene overall. Opened my ears and eyes to these talented girls and what Korea had to offer. Can't believe it's been ten years. Psyched to see that you guys reacted to this. Nice touch to add the songs origin in this 👌❤
Yeah this is a great cover, their vocal talent is so extreme they literally can sing any song and yeah pretty mamamoo makes every song a mamamoo song and they make every genre the mamamoo genre. You should check out solarsido and solar's covers, especially her frankie valli cant take my eyes off you and her michael jackson man in the mirror(done with MJs original band and backup singers), Solar makes the songs her own while still preserving the original. Wheein's cover of ariana grande 7 rings is another. There is even a short cover of Hwasa doing Bohemian Rhapsody and We will rock you is awesome but its only like 2 minutes long, so maybe not enough to react too but it is still awesome.
And you get a taste of ONEWE backing Hwasa on Bohemian/Rock You. As you dive deeper, you will also find them behind Solar, Moonbyul and Mamamoo as a whole. Sadly, nothing with Wheein.
Tom Jones is Welsh, which is certainly included in British, but is a distinct identity! Thank you so much for including his performance in this reaction.
One of the first songs I saw/heard from Mamamoo... they are the best vocalists from Korea. You might have one better here or there, but no one has 4 this good that harmonize this well on the fly.
Holy toledo batman. Delilah is my favorite Immortal Song by Mamamoo. I loved the Tom Jones's one as well. I should have checked him out sooner. Oh, other Immortal Songs performances that are very good are Exo, Mama, by Forestella. Also check out the performance of Exo' Chen and Baekhyun, Really I didn't know. Next Mamamoo performance to watch is Backwoods,
I'm only too familiar with Tom Jones. I have cringy memories of my best friend's mom swooning over Tom Jones when we were kids and Delilah was a new song. The old guy catching flies throughout the video did the Korean version of Delilah back in the day and he was the honoree for that episode of Immortal Songs. He sat there slack-jawed because he couldn't wrap his head around a girl group turning Delilah into a lesbian crime of passion lol. Delilah was the 2nd song I heard by MMM when I was new to kpop in 2016. At first I hated almost every song and was ready to give up on kpop until I stumbled across Piano Man and followed it up with Delilah. This performance not only turned me into an instant MMM fan but it kept me listening to more Korean artists and eventually my eyes, ears and mind adjusted to kpop's unique sound and style and I started to appreciate what the K-kids were doing and even learned to love some of the groups I had initially dismissed like BTS, just to show you how clueless I was at that point. I may be jaded, snobbish and highly opinionated about music but sometimes this old dog can learn something new when world class talent like Mamamoo slaps him upside the head.
@@moo5289 LOL!! Exactly! He was next and it was like omg, another one. It was so cringy to see his mom get all hot and bothered by them, esp after we heard women would throw their panties on stage when they performed. :)
I enjoyed your video. I have something to tell you. Sohyang is back. The title is Til you love me again. This is her new song. Please listen to her song and make a reaction video.
Most of the time (especially in previous decades) if a woman sang these lyrics with the original lyrics, she'd be very carefully dispassionate, _I'm singing this but I don't mean it personally._ So as not to be thought (GASP!) A LESBIAN! Mamamoo didn't care what people would think. They sang it with believable passion, which serves the song and the subject far better,

Imagine a Sir Tom Jones and Mamamoo collaboration of Delilah! One of my favourite Mamamoo Immortal Songs performances.
I appreciate the Tom Jones video in the beginning, that was great! Had no idea there was a mariachi band sound in the song. Antonio Benderaz!
Always love this. So powerful at such a young age.

Delilah for me is close second to another IS2 performance with a similar theme, "Love Story of A Girl"
레전드!!!!!!❤너무좋아요 ❤

For me, it was my mom swooning. It got so tiring I introduced her to Engelbert Humperdinck. That was only worse.

휘인 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🤔Maybe the comparison must be with the old korean singer version of this song, instead of the Tom Jones version.
Indeed! Should have done all three!
