Thank you for not breaking the Kanade Sato-law anymore. She's absolutely brilliant. I left a few more links in that comment. When you're in the mood for some more Yoyoka I'd like to recommend her and Lisa-X (brilliant guitarist!) doing Satch Boogie by Joe Satriani. The drumming is brilliant and the guitar is mind-bendingly good.
Such a great technical player. She has the ability to be precise while staying relaxed and without sounding sterile. All of that and feeling too, she's pretty darn groovy.
What i love most about Kanade is her fine technique and she looks as relaxed as you can be, as if this was NOTHING (and it's DAVE WECKL!!!) Especially the Ride work is exceptionel...
Watch her left hand at 5:58. It's on the snare and then it so casually strikes the floor tom, then back to the snare. She plays so relaxed, something you notice in all of her videos.
@@lesbrunswick5137 Hi Les, I can't recal exactly where i referenced this but remember feeling very sad watching Rei explain what he was suffering from, understood it was a form of tinitus which must be devastating for a guy with his unique talent. Whatever he gifted Kanade will solidify in her left hand, be aware we'll feel her equalise full strenth in every department singularity ! As David bowie once remarked , Music belongs to who thoes who heard it first, ....a good chance Kanade will choose the Pat Metheny "last train home" anthem before delivering her worth....Hey it's just a Quess
Call it Samba Jazz. My favourite performance by this supremely cool princess. Kanade's music urges you to hope, and believe, that life can indeed be beautiful. Love her. 👍💋
Knowing music about as well as I skydive from the moon, but greatly appreciating it (and learning bits, and bits more all the time), I love listening to knowledgeable people explain it. I like your style of reacting. Good attitude.
Kanade does these 'covers' REALLY well, and she made her first album this same year (2017) with Rei Narita (piano) and 'Ear Candy Jazz Factory' (ICYMI)
I'm quite sure that being metal drummer would be much bigger disadvantage since most drummers don't like "speed only" mentality. Most people don't know about Nils Fjellström for example.
@@UltraCasualPenguin ...not sure what you mean by "bigger disadvantage". Are you referring to "unknown" vs "famous" .....and then the "speed-only mentality" when bringing up the "Nils" name? Only one response, metal is very one-dimensional .....loud and perhaps fast (per your "speed only" comment). There certainly is no musicality, nor is there any dynamics, nor is there any talent. I could get a twelve-year-old to play this stuff in about an hour. There is NOTHING to know or learn. Just hit the drums as hard as possible .....and fast (if this is what's required). Tempo doesn't need to be consistent ....just fast .....and loud. YUP ....there will be an audience for this crap .......but NOTHING like the audience for Sato. .
I completely disagree with the "unknown". "Unknown" is 100% controlled by publicity and being out in the public, constantly playing. The genre she prefers to play is very "mainstream" and accepted by almost ANY audience. .
Nice reaction and thanks for doing Kanade, the talented female drummers for Japan area breathe of fresh air. BTW, there should be a new Yoyoka cover coming out soon, so brush up on your 60's psychedelic rock legends.
One of my favorite drummers. Up there with Senri. (YOYOKA is in a class of her own.) I love how Kanade looks like she could be riding a bicycle. No stress. No gimmicky stick tricks. No over-the-top gyrations. Just great playing.
She's also incredible, along with Senri, Yoyoka, Junna and others. This Jazz fusion stuff is complex, fun, and smooth, but you deserve a nice straight forward rock cover... like Yoyoka's Smells Like Teen Spirit :)
Nice Reaction. She is my best favorite drummer. Her Rhythm is very accurate! Could I have the reaction of this video either? 「 Spur Of The Moment - Dave Weckl (Cover)」(kanade satou 13 years old)
Kanade seems to play mostly jazz fusion but she is versatile. Here’s a cover of a Toto song (Girl Goodbye) she performs with Japanese guitar prodigy Makoto Irie. She even cracks a smile at one point. ua-cam.com/video/qFUyLfBbCMI/v-deo.html
Would love to see Senri and Kanade doing a drum duo (not a battle) or improv! How awesome would that be! Or a trio including Yoyoka. Senri and Yoyoka have hung out before.
Btw, have you seen Larnell Lewis’ vid by Drumeo (I believe) where he heard the song once and he played it perfectly? This just reminded me of that and the music. You might just be blown away by the genius of that guy. Worth reacting to and he also just did a Metallica cover he never heard before. I think his version is better than Lars. Lol
She's an awsome young jazz drummer I've seen this preformance its good but not my cup of tea prefer rock drummers. You did a great job on the commentary thanks Wave.👍
Kanade is the current drummer for instrumental (I call it near-prog) rock guitarist Rie aka Suzaku. This newest track is only hours old, vid is just Rie & Kanade... no jazz in sight ua-cam.com/video/ZYpFcQqg8U4/v-deo.html a short profile: www.discogs.com/artist/7235642-Kanade-Sato

Good reaction Wave. Senri and Kanade (and now Tamu as well) made me appreciate the progressive jazz fusion genre and it’s intricacies more. (I listen to or more familiar with the Dave Brubeck/classical jazz) .... These ladies are well trained. But in my opinion, Kanade isn’t as passionately revered as Senri and Yoyoka coz of her lack of ‘feel’ (at least not conveyed very well). She might be a more technically sound drummer compared to the two but what the two got she doesn’t have. Just MHO.
I can't believe the elementary "analysis" ....the so weak comments made about Sato's performing ......literally as if he has no idea what she is doing. This is a talented AND experienced natural drummer ....who has learnt this chart ....and playing to it to fully complement the piece AND the other performers. This kind of drummer will NEVER play this piece the same way two times. I don't know what a Wave Potter is ......but publishing this video should be truly considered embarrassing. THIS IS A STRAIGHT BEAT. SHE KNOWS THE BASS LINE, SHE KNOWS THE ACCOMPANIMENT VARIATIONS, AND SHE KNOWS WHO HAS, AND WHERE IS THE ACTIVE MELODIC LINES........AND SHE IS PLAYING WITH AND ENHANCING ALL!!! ........but this narrator can only think about "counting" .....something drummers who know what they are doing ....DO .....very sad and embarrassing commentary. An example of the elementary level of this "commentator" is the comment about the kick being "whereever she wants to put it". NOT EVEN CLOSE. The KICK is put WHERE it is most effective for the piece ...typically WITH one of the parts ...bass, accompaniment, or lead. I absolute hate "analyzers" who think they know what's going on and DON'T .....but they insist they must come up with an "explanation" ...perhaps to try to sound like they understand the performance .....and they actually haven't a clue. You can just keep "a-bobbing your head" .....because it looks like that's all you can do. And "oh my gosh" ....you have "other videos"???????? OH PUUUUUULLLLLLLLEAEAEAEAEAEAEAAEASSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

I know you probably already know this but Yoyoka has a premier coming up in 15 minutes. She did a cover of Cream's Sunshine of Your Love.
It's called Jazz / Fusion, Wave.
This is Prog to you? Are you not familiar with Brazilian rhythms often used in fusion-type stuff? Guess not.

She sounds just like Dave! She nailed the fills as this sounds familiar to me when I was working at NASA in early 2000's on a Dave Weckl CD I had.
I was waiting for you to get to this drummer. Didn't want to add to the pressure that everyone was already giving you :p
Ah! Finally, Kanade Sato!!
Enjoyable very enjoyable. You always enhance my appreciation for these performances. Well done!
She made an album with a trio called Ear Candy Jazz Factory. Worth a listen for anyone who likes her playing.
Such a shame, Rei's issues with Tinitus have curtailed a great trio
