Ex-Cyclone Jasper: Major flood warnings now in place

- Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper is slowly churning its way across the Cape York Peninsula after it made landfall as a Category Two system Wednesday evening.
Cape Tribulation and Port Douglas bore the brunt of the cyclone, while Cairns and Cooktown weren't immune from the storm's impacts.
Jasper has since been downgraded to a Tropical Low, as it slowly tracks west and further inland still providing strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall.
Jasper crossed the Queensland coast around 7pm local time Wednesday near the community of Wujal Wujal.
More than 110 millimetres of rain fell across the Far North on Wednesday, marking the heaviest rain since March for many communities.
Around 35,000 properties remain without power Thursday morning.
Outages extend north to the Daintree and west to Kuranda and the Atherton Tablelands.
Dozens of flights in and out of Cairns remain suspended or cancelled today.
Boaties spent yesterday relocating vessels area from marinas, utilising waterways such as the Barron River and Dixon Inlet as a temporary shelter.
A major flood warning is now in place right across the Far North.

Can attest to that. The day after cyclone Larry (cat 5 in 2005), channel 7 set up their cameras on the road in front of my house, which had blown out windows and pretty much had a flood water moat. The reporter kept yelling, "Do you still have a hills hoist" repeatedly. Vultures looking to pick over a carcass.

Channel nine have been calling it unprecedented. WTF, it was only a cat 2, I mean they have had cat 5s up there years ago. Despite what the climate pundit's say cyclones are actually happening less, Name the last one that has actually crossed the coast, its been a number of years. Got to keep the narrative going.

Thats why you don't watch channel nine. Yes its a bit wet up here today and port Douglas and cape trib Daintree lost trees etc but I've seen worse than this from normal storm systems up here. The only thing unprecedented is the absolute BS coming from climate alarmists 🤣🤣🤣🍻🇦🇺

Your so wrong and have no clue. climatologists predicted a decline in cyclones and have been publishing peer reviewed papers on it for the last 15years! But you won't hear that on the bias skynews.
Because as predicted again by climatologists decades ago, the upper atmosphere is warming up faster than the surface fact (because that is where all the extra heat-absorbing CO2 is!)
So try and pay attention now .For cyclones, hurricanes, and typhoons to form, you need a temperture differential range, meaning warm ocean and a cold upper troposphere. If there is less temperature difference, less cyclones form. Not only that, but because of the laws of thermodynamics, the jet streams are faster and more powerful, which causes wind shear which also prevents cyclones from forming.
The problem is you assume sht and spread bs without having an f'ing clue what the hell your talking about.

great "climate crisis" hype for a standard tropical storm; must have struggled to get that footage; all those reporters must be exhausted after rushing around looking for filmworthy damage......desipite the lack of real destruction, vegie and fruit prices will still go up anyway 😷

You are clueless if you believe that, Sydney has had 2 meters of rain in mere days huh? The floods are where rivers drain toward the sea, so its not just the rainfall in the area, the floods are from the mountain rivers overflowing on route to ocean. I lived in both places, its WAY WAY different.

cyclone didnt damage much at all, but turned into a rain system and didnt stop for 5 days, super heavy tropical rain non stop plus montains with rivers draining into ocean, thats been the flooding issue, the cat 2 was very mild.

The Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre (BOM) should have kept Jasper at cyclone status but now, the latest is contained in their Severe Weather Warning updates. Whilst it's not good on the energy side, everyone should be keeping up to date with the Bureau's Queensland warning page as ex Jasper's life continues. Modelling is again indicating a new threat for the Western side of the Gulf of Carpentaria. The Joint Typhoon Warning Centre has issued its final advisory on the system but percentages increasing that it will come back for Round Two.

I live in Cairns, it wasn't even that close. Except for near the coast it was literally just a slightly strong breeze and a bit of a drizzle. Drama queens.
