Using negative dehaze is a great idea. I've also found that if you want to use an inverted radial gradient mask to create a vignette, bringing down the whites instead of the brightness can work better. Also, when dodging or burning - especially people's faces - can work better if you adjust the whites rather than the brightness.
Thanks Brian. This is a great tip and timely for me too. I'm doing a graduation shoot next month and your video has helped me with an issue I thought I was going to have. Edit: I use ACR which has the same mask editing.
Thanks, Jeff! Yeah, I think many of us (myself included) tend to add a positive dehaze… with good reason. It rocks when you apply it to a sky. But a negative dehaze is an outstanding way to add that subtle glow effect.
@@brianmatiash Definitely worked quite well! I've used a negative dehaze to help add to some distant layer haziness and such, but using it to put some glow behind an object and then the masking you demonstrated - wonderful, subtle, but very enhancing effect! WIll be nice to have this in my bag of tricks!
@JeffreyTadlockPhotography That’s right! I believe I have a video from a few months ago where I show what you’ve mentioned: using a negative dehaze to accentuate morning fog/mist. It works like a dream.
I have used masks before but had NO IDEA how flexible they can be until now. Thanks for this video! I really look forward to trying 'combining' of the masks now. Again...well done!
Can't you apply this to ACR as well? Aren't they basically the same? If so then ACR users can get some use from the LR Masking Master course as well. Right?
Thank you, Bryan for that tip. Now I’m going to go back and look at the pictures taken of my deceased wife and see if I can put a glow behind her some of her pictures. I’ve taken your Lightroom everywhere course and I really enjoyed it. I moved away from Lightroom Classic. I just signed up for your masking course.
Great video. One question which isn't really related - how did you set up your "desktop/LR window" so that the tools icons (mask icon, crop icon healing icon etc)are parked vertically on the right side of the window? Has that overall set up? I know you have simply hidden the left panel (Navigator, History etc). Thanks!
Just a little out of topic. I have a question. Why not all Lightroom mobile new features exist on any iPad? For example, I have iPad Air 3 which has A12 Bionic chip, and when I watch your videos about new features of Lightroom mobile for iPad i see that almost non of them available equally on every iPad and what is confusing? on web when you trying to find any info about this the answer says that any iPad that support Lightroom mobile latest version it will have all the new features but it does’t. And yes I updated my iPad to the latest version. I do not understand A12 Bionic already not powerful enough to handle these new features?

Excellent tips, Garry! Thank you for sharing them!
Very nice thanks so much for this tips
Typical tutorial from you. Amazingly helpful technique explained in an easy tutorial. Thanks Brian!!!
Thank you, as always, for the kind words, Stephen!
Loved the video about LR Masking Tools. They are so adaptable. Nice work Brian.
Excellent info here Brian
Excellent demonstration of this approach. Great examples!
Thank you very much, Bruce!
The King of Lightroom masks!
Love this guy.
What can I say? I love me some Lightroom masks! 😂
@@brianmatiash Sometimes it feels like cheating the way it's so easy to isolate a subject. Even subtle masks make a big difference.
I couldn’t have said it better!
Excellent tutorial Brian!
Thanks Brian. Well done! I’m going to check out your course! Geoff
Thank you, Geoff!
Genial como siempre. Gracias Brian.

Great informative video. Thanks a lot.
Superb. Thanks a lot
That's a great little dehaze trick for the glow! Very nice!

BRIAN’S VIDEOS ROCK !!!
Woohoo! Rock on!! 🤘
Thanks, your video's help me learn the tricks to help my edits.
That’s what I love to hear!
Well, Once again I've learned new stuff Brian. Thanks - tim
Very helpful 🙏
Thank you!
That is a technique I have not used before, so thanks for highlighting

I am SO grateful for your constant support, both here on UA-cam and within my courses! Thank you!

Thank you! 😊
Another helpful educational video. Maybe use technique instead of trick! Thanks Brian.
Thanks, Mark! And funny enough, I originally had “technique” in the title, but it made it too long for my taste. 😂
Brian indeed separated the State and the Church! 😃

I only use Photoshop and as far as I can tell what you say is identical in Photoshop
These masking tools need to be added to Photoshop so we can use them on layers. Not just in CameraRaw or Lightroom.
They’re in Photoshop in the camera raw filter. Deke Mclelland s great trick to bring ACR masks into Photoshop proper.
