Do you think by leading my employees into a leadership role is also leading them? not so that I can sit around and "do whatever" but rather, that I can take more outside of the job site to insure the success of the business? i know a few contractors (20-30 years in business) who don't have the trust to break away from their jobs and a lot of their men handle the work. it seems like this problem cripples the potential... they seem to be doing fine but they are employees of their business rather than owners of there business. any thoughts on what I am saying? I've been on my own now for 5 years. we do residential construction locally as a general contractor and work all over the west coast doing commercial cabinet installs and mill work install.
