Wrapping your wife's Brompton in the rain jacket to end up with a package TRA is happy with is a smart move. I've had 12°C and rain in Taichung once and it was miserable, so props for heading out on the bike at 15°C. Merry xmas and keep 'em coming.
Unfortunately, it didn't work and I almost missed my train as I rode around the station area looking for a black rubbish bag to put my bike in. Bloody jobsworth TRA staff!
@@AsiaHikelopedia I see a new Hikelopedia product here: Richard's signature rain jacket that can morph into a TRA-compatible Brompton cover by undoing some buttons... Keep in mind Brompton has a stronghold in urban Asian markets, so there actually might be a market for such a product in Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore...
The brompton bicycle can be equipped with an electric motor, so that it will not be tired for long distances, and it will be fast. Thanks for your weekend video.
great video, as always. been following since the trek around sg. this is now part of my saturday morning routine; coffee and hikelopedia. merry christmas to you and the family, richard.
I rode my scooter around the coast of Taiwan back in June. I saw many places like this along the way. I'm making videos about it now. 2:36 During my trip most of the dogs I came across were surprisingly chill, except the night in Chiayi when I was being chased by a pack (that I didn't see, only heard behind me) on a dark road between some fields. Thankfully the scooter is much faster. 4:13 I drove through sand like that (and almost fell off my scooter) on my 4th day between Chiayi and Tainan. I had to change my route when it became too much to go through. 4:52 I went by Songbo Fishing Harbour on my 2nd day (video is on my channel). 13:31 I stopped there too on my 2nd day (It's also in my video)! Same beeping sound from the trucks too! lol Great video, overall! You've earned a subscriber!
You might want to invest in some pepper spray for dogs in future - always an issue in Taiwan sadly. That Outlet Mall actually has some excellent food options. I even found fish n chips last time I was down there! Thanks for another excellent video. I do wish that the Taiwanese government would take better care of the west coast areas - especially the beaches. Zhunan beach is lovely but the local government has done very little to develop or protect it.
Abit late to this video as I was busy over Christmas period. First, Merry Christmas to you and your family! Second, it's 15 degrees and windy and you are not even wearing long pants! Good to see a different kind of Taiwan! I bet the train ride home is the best feeling after such a long ride. 😁
Hello Richard, I am also considering going to ride in Taiwan. Maybe this fall/winter 2023-24. We travel the same way, hotels and minimal luggage. I thought about joining an organized group but most only melt the East Coast in 7-8 days. I would like to spend three weeks seeing the coast and also the mountains. My concern lies with the food side. Of course, Taiwan is famous for its food and cuisine (and I like oriental cuisine), but I'm not very comfortable ordering from menus and restaurants written in Mandarin Chinese, especially outside of large cities. Eating well while cycling is important! I'm a bit of a "traditional picky eater", especially at breakfast. In your video, you seem to like convenience stores for eating. I admit to being a little surprised if I am offered to eat noodles or soup for breakfast as I have read on travel forum. What about ordering food and booking hotels if you don't know Mandarin? Can we get by with Google Translate? Thank you in advance for your advice.
Most people who work in the tourism industry and shopkeepers in Taiwan speak at least a little English and restaurants in touristy areas will have an English menu. If not, Google will work for sure. For breakfast I eat like a local, but for picky eaters there are breakfast shops that sell decent sandwiches (bacon and egg) in pretty much every small town. Otherwise 7-11s have western stuff too. Most importantly, people in Taiwan are super friendly and always willing to help out foreigners. So don't worry, you will have a great time!
I have been cycling in this section a couple times before. Hopefully I can come to Taiwan early next year if the Taiwanese Government opens its door to individual Hong Kong tourists.
How wonderful it is to be able to just appreciate the experience of traveling through your amazing videos. I really love this. Thanks!
Thank you!

Wonderful video
Rural areas have been forgotten sometime.
But still beautiful .
Thanks for watching
😃 Nice simple video. That is some distance :D on a brompton :D :D
Yes it was!
Merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your families 👏👏👏
Same to you!
You're right about feeling colder in Taiwan than the UK! We have very low humidity in San Francisco Bay Area. It's comfortable year around! 👏💪🤙🌉🤗🤗
Welcome to Changhua. Lots of interesting places around here, including Lukang. Let us know next time you’re in town!
Thanks
Thank you!

Great to see the ordinary Taiwan, just the way I remerber it as a former sailor. Merry Christmas Richard!!
Same to you!
A very industrious video😊
Very!
I was with the giant 环岛 group or around 45 riders last week riding past the "desert" and "hydro windmill"...too bad we didnt meet each other!
Yes, shame. Enjoy your trip by the way!
Actually, as a real Taiwanese, I 've never visited these areas. Thank u! You help me know more about Taiwan.
You're welcome
Merry Christmas mate and thank you for the awesome videos
Thank you. Same to you!
Merry Christmas Richard
Same to you!
Taiwan in the raw.. Nice!
Thanks
As always refreshing. Thank you Sir.
Real Taiwan. I like it. The west coast is certainly not as scenic as the east, but still fun to cycle along I fathom.
Well, it's flat at least!

Cool. Thanks. Hope you enjoyed your ride around Taiwan. I'm planning to do it on my bike in a couple of weeks!

Thanks for the tip! I couldn't be bothered to go into the mall as I had my bike!

Merry Christmas 🎉 It’s bloody cold
haha!
Yes, especially the Miaoli sections of it. Zhunan Beach could be a great tourist attraction if the government took proper care of it...
I have been cycling in this section a couple times before. Hopefully I can come to Taiwan early next year if the Taiwanese Government opens its door to individual Hong Kong tourists.
Hope you can too!
Affair Hotel! Honesty is the best policy, I guess. 😂🤣
Do you use a gimbal stabilizer? Can you tell me about it?
No, I don't. They are too much trouble. I use a tripod
How do you stabilize the camera to lock onto your face while biking or walking?
Must be the autofocus tracker on the camera
Affair Hotel. Haha!🤣
Bikelopedia.
Haha!
You forgot to eat the nation -wide famous and delicous chang-hwa meat ball
I didn't have time. Next time for sure!
My exes live in Miaoli that is why I reside in Hsinchu.😆
Haha
Who let the dogs out? Who? Who? Who?😆
oops!
Bleak.....bleak.....bleak
