Great video REM, that's a great surprise on getting the Jan Boyce although the Kona Sharwil is great too. Great looking Tree. Can't wait until hopefully my Jan Boyce fruits one day. Thanks for sharing!
I have 10 of my 14 avocado trees down on my little orchard flowering. I can see that my oldest Sharwil has set two fruits already! I planted it early November 2020 as well…
I've started recording this year's flowing avocados as is today, there are some that seems to be a little slow. We'll see if they come through. Heading to Maui this year, I'm going to try to check out some avocados. Thanks for watching!
Now that really is a tiny seed. The difficulty with peeling, is that common to Jan Boyce? How is the oil content? Nice healthy looking tree you've got there. Very funny story how you ended up with the Jan Boyce. Thanks for the video REM
My guess on Oil is it was 20%+. I did struggle a little when it was small and dealing with the High heat we had, I would go out and spray it down to cool it down. Hopefully now that the roots are developed, it will require less attention...we'll see, thanks for watching!
We do have access to some interesting varieties, you never know it might become available in the future. Very tasty almost seedless based on the size of the seed 😄. Thanks for watching!
Hi James, based off memory when I had a Kona years ago, I would say the Kona is better. I've had a tough time getting mine established. I finally have a Brokaw Sharwil that is doing good, hopefully I'll eventually get my own fruit. Thanks for watching!
I have a tentative Brokaw Avocado order going. Currently the varieties are limited this year to Bacon, Carmen, GEM, Hass, Lamb, Maluma, Pinkerton, Reed, and Zutano on different rootstock...email me. I'll do a video shortly...
Hey REM, thanks for all the great info. Was wondering how you go about getting trees from Brokow. Are you putting any orders in for new trees? Would it be possible to jump in on one of your orders? Looking to get both a Sharwil and Jan B. ,

Please get a stronger post support for this tree. I lost my young Reed in a recent Santa Ana Wind. It was almost 2" dia. trunk and 7 feet tall, using the same post it came with, a 2" X 2" wood. Both the post and the trunk snapped off right at the splice joint. I left the root in the ground and it has sprouted. I'll likely let it grow until it can support splices of various kinds. I hope I can get a splice for the Jan Boyce after seeing this video.
Hi there, the Jan Boyce is definitely a variety that might be worth hunting for. I do get some severe Santa Ana winds coming through and luckily for me the Jan Boyce is located in a spot where it's protected by my barn. My plan is to keep it around the 15 ft mark and that goes for all of my other avocado trees. Also that way and they're not too big of a wind break. Good luck in your search and if I find one I'll definitely note it.
I haven't had a Hass in a while but based on memory, this is up there in the same level. I would say it is a little different, more creamy and buttery. Hass has a little more avocado flavor but not as creamy as this. I have one Hass that is starting to ripen up so I'll provide feedback later. Thanks for watching!
The only place I've heard that is propagating them is Everde, they bought out la Verne. Call their California sales to see if they have any and it's possible they will ship to Lowe's for your pick up. Second option is Epicenter but you have to be patient, they are slow. Good luck!
@@AvocadoTalk yeah, on sunday i saw that Louie's had 5 JB in stock from their instagram. I stopped by louies today and they all sold out. BUT They have about 15 oro negro avocado variety in 3gal pots available. debating if its worth picking one up. Dont see those often here in socal
That is what I thought too. I ended up cutting down the 2 Ash trees so now it has more light. Plus the Ash would have gotten huge. We will see if it changes anything going forward. I didn't get many fruit this year from my JB 😭
I don't think I said that it would come true from seed in this video so not exactly sure what you mean. I talk about grafting which is a process to try to clone a fruit tree.
@@AvocadoTalk You said you were going to plant it. That's why I mentioned that. I graft over 100 avocado trees a year. You should plant larger seeds for grafting so you don't have to wait so long for the puny ones to develop a thick stem.
@@MasterKenfucius I grafted Jan Boyce on a seedling Zutano which I have already in a pot and was trying to decide if it was worth planting it. I wanted to make sure I liked the flavor of the fruit and I did.
@@AvocadoTalk Nice! I've been trying to find a Jan Boyce here in Florida but nobody has them. I might have to bite the bullet and order from California.
Thanks for sharing! What beautiful fruit!
TY, hopefully more people are able to obtain this variety. Thanks for watching!
😃👍 HAPPY FOR YOU CONGRATS. GREEN AVOCADOS USE TO THROW ME OFF SLOWLY GETTING OVER IT🥑
Yeah, makes it harder to know when it is ripe but there are a lot of good Green skin avocados out there like the Gwen. Thanks for watching!
Congrats on passing the 1k subs, that is much deserved! Your channel and videos are great, congrats and look forward to watching your future videos!

Hi Johnny, Yes, definitely a good option for a really good tasting avocado tree in anybody's yard. Thanks for watching!
You’ve got me motivated to put my JB in the ground that’s been sitting in my Greenhouse!
We have a storm coming, I would wait but definitely should try to get it into the ground. I'm planning on putting mine in the ground also soon.

@@AvocadoTalk Keep us posted. Thanks
Nice looking avocado. I’m surprised how small the seed was. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Trying to grow my first avocado tree right now
That is awesome, I glad more people are doing it. It really isn't that hard, just baby them when small. Good Luck! Thanks for watching!
Wow beautiful tree & fruit! I have a 4ft tall JB and desperately need to plant into the ground!
If you have the room, I think it's a tree worth having. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Congratulations, sometimes mistakes can turn out to be crazy good 🤠
It was a nice surprise for sure. My other varieties ended up being Hass which is ok also but I was a little disappointed. Thanks for watching!
Wow. Someone who says Hass the right way.

Looks delicious as you said - us tiniest seed ive ever seen - shame it isnt in Australian nurseries.

Thank you for sharing the video beautiful fruit are there any trees available?
I have one that I've grafted, I've seen them at nurseries so keep an eye out. Thanks for watching!
That’s awesome! Jan Boyce is hard to come by. I’ve got my first avocados finally fruiting but doubt they will as good as Boyce (don gillogly).
Congrats on your tree, did you say it was a Don Gillogly? I have a Don Gillogly too, just need to make some time to plant it. Thanks for watching!
great video..great fruit for backyard growing. However, if I were to choose between eating a sharwil and jan boyce, it sharwil by a hair.

Lol, I have avocado envy! Is the texture similar to the creaminess of bacon?
Yes creamy like the bacon but much better avocado flavor and more oil content. Smaller seed for sure.
That seed is very tiny , Julie Frink says that the Jan Boyce seed is vigorous and sends out lots of roots , so plant that seed lol
Ummm I don't think so. 😂
