I started a Celtic Love Knot quilt as a wedding gift for my son over 13 years ago. I was about 75% finished when he died. It has been 11 1/2 years and I am now ready to get busy and finish it to give to my daughter. You just have to wait until the right time to pick back up a project like this.
I have about six quilts made and ready to put together. I hope I can get several of those finished this year. I would like to finish all UFOs this year but that is too much of a challenge for one year when I am already making quilt tops for two organizations! Caps for children’s Hospital, dresses to be sent to Africa on my pastors mission trip. There just isn’t enough hours in a day! It’s my own fault I am so tied up, I plan my days and weeks.
Pat, you have gotten me on track with all the organizations that we have done this year. I do not like a book, and I use my computer and set up my calendar for the year. I found projects that have been put on the back burner. They have now been scheduled. I am finishing pillows for my quilts that go on my bed from the scraps that are left. So on Tuesday, I work for 1 hour on my Blue pillows. On Fridays, I work one hour on my son's pillow shams to match his quilt I finished 1 year ago. I've been working on a 2" square quilt that I want to be my shower curtain, so that is on Thursdays. Then on Sunday, I work 1 hour on my clothes that I have cut out. I see my projects being done by the end of the year. If my 1 hour a week does not complete my projects, I will move them to January. Being single, I can sew anytime I want. One other thing I schedule is on the last day of the month I make a section of a project called "Tannenbaum by laundry Basket Quilt". This schedule does not pressure me but I get things done for myself and for others. I love the organization.
I made a pink/purple/white traffic jam and still have enough squares to make a mixed color one and a blue/white one, but i have been eyeballing that neutrals traffic jam since you put it up. Now I want to go chop up some neutrals because I am LOVING that skinny sashing with yours. Your large dot reads black/grey from my screen which I also love. You are so inspirational.
As a Brit we have Marmite, and a teaspoon in stews, bolognese etc is delicious. I prefer a marmite sandwich to it on toast. Lots of butter or spread ( I visited CA last year and your butter is creamier than ours so I would suggest spread to partner with Marmite) and a very small amount of Marmite, just makes it a bit savoury.
Thank you for the Fireside chat. So fun. I tried to stay up to watch you live but couldn’t make it. Yes, I live on the East coast. Lol. Love all your ideas! Gives me the little push. Quilting a Christmas quilt from last year meaning 2018. Oh well I will have it ready next year:)
You’re traffic-gam comment reminded me of one problem I had when I made a twister quilt last year. The pattern was a twin size. I wanted to make it queen size. I didn’t have enough of my yellow background fabric to make all the extra blocks. I went through my fabric stash and found a darker yellow that would match my fabrics and would have enough to make the extra blocks. So I made them and positioned them all around the first set of blocks. It made it look sharp and I was happy it worked out. Now I still have to quilt it.
I have a quilt that has been basted and ready to quilt for way way to long (like over 2 years 🤪) there is always something that I would rather complete gets put in front of it...I am not very adventurous with my machine quilting and tend to do my go to stippling or straight line quilting and I want to branch out and try new things on this one but I end up chickening out...but this is the month I’m going to finish it 💪🏻 and then I’m going to be intentional about several unfinished projects 😃 thank you for the inspiration!!! 🤗
Great chat tonight so much information! You reminded me of a chenelle jacket kit I purchased from Nancy’s notions several years back when Nancy was still with us. I have the kit and material and just purchased the cutter. I think I will pull this project out and work on it in February. See you next chat.
I love vegimite on toast with butter!!! It’s my favorite! I’m not Australian but lived in Sydney for 2 years and have relatives in Melbourne. I love it in a tube!
Hi Pat, greetings from Australia. I am eating my vegemite toast as I watch this. Love the out west blocks. I am waiting on some fabric from the fat quarter shop to start my blocks. Hint for vegemite, don't use too much, less is more. Yummy!
Regarding UFO's, I just completed a mini-house quilt that I made several years ago. The houses measure 2.5" finished all made from scraps. It was a project where rubber stamps were used to print the pattern directly onto the fabrics. Cut them out. Sew them together and voila. I combined them with black and white four-patches to form chains. I have two quilt tops sitting on the floor of my sewing room waiting to be quilted. The bin of UFO's is top priority for me this year. If I can finish them up that will be one less bin in my room.
Hey Pat.. Hint... When trying the 'Vegemite' DON'T slather it all over your toast as they do when trying it . NO.. 😜 Put heaps of butter & just a 'Very Tiny'!!! Smear of Vegemite less than 1/4 teaspoon of Vegemite. It is also yummy with smashed Avocado or eggs on toast.. I grew up on it but too much not nice.. 🇦🇺😀👍
at 75 years of age I know how to do many things. of course im doing your bom and bows and aurifil challenge. I am also working on 3 afghans, 2 quilts that are ready to be quilted. sandwiched and ready to go. some hats for my friend and baby booties, sweaters, and crowns. it depends on how my hands are feeling as to what im working on each day. im also doing some major changes in my hide a way. evening sun is attacking me so I need to move sewing machine around so I can sew and still look outside and see Gods beautys
My daughters quilt, it is my first quilt. My sewing machine died when I was 3/4 done 😑 that was mid December . Finally getting it back from the shop this week. I always have crochet or some type of craft going. This year I have been finishing a wip before starting a new one , so far so good.
I love vegemite, but you want to use it very sparingly. You don't use it like jelly on toast. Just a very light amount. It is saltyish and not sweet. A friend who lives in Australia said moms get a little on a spoon and stir it in their babies water bottles so that they are introduced to it at a very early age. I had friends bring me some from Australia when they were there last summer, but then I discovered you can order it on Amazon. Love your show.
Pat you make my day so pleasant. For February I hope to complete a sampler wall hanging that I started at a quilting class but I got pneumonia and then it went into the twilight zone of my sewing room. lol
Hi Pat, I am loving your Traffic Jam with the Red 1” finished sashing and your Out West Blocks are amazing, I really like the butterflies with the dark gray background and the lighter with the pink design.. I really love the contrast and the colors together. Congrats on Nancy’s Notions spotlight. I enjoyed the show. Take care and God Bless, Chris-Raleigh NC
With the Vegemite just don't spread it on your toast too thick, you only need a very light spreading. If it is too thick it will make you gag it is so strong. But it is good to add to stews etc, and if you haven't guessed I am an Australian and also grew up on the stuff.
I love your chats! So inspiring. Love that tool caddy. I have a UFO that's been waiting and calling me -- hand quilting a ride and white quilt I started probably 15 years ago. It's partially done. And the other is my hexie quilt. I did a small one for the wall which inspired a large one but as you can imagine, it takes a lot of hexies for a full-size bed quilt. Thanks so much for all you do Pat.
I just finished a UFO last week. I have several UFO quilts that I plan on getting done this year. From October 2018 to December 2019, I was out of commission due to health issues. Boy, that will inspire you to get things done!! I have two projects that will be long ongoing projects. One is an EPP Grandmother’s Garden and the other is a sampler quilt designed by my local quilt shop that I wanted to add hand appliqué flowers and vines to the inner and outer borders. I like to have hand work to do while I watch/listen to TV with my sweetie, I mean my husband!! I love your fireside chats and all the projects you are doing!! Thank you for sharing all your tips. I just ordered a rolling cart because I had to have one just like you!!
I’m working on one of my many UFO’s, my goal is to complete it by the end of this month. I had the blocks done about 2 years ago, I just completed the quilt top and getting ready to sandwich the layers. It’s called the 2 for 1 pinwheel block made with 1930’s fabric . I guess I wasn’t really into it at the time I was working on it but now I’m in love with it. How funny 😁
Oh my goodness, be careful of that Vegemite! I love it (as I'm an Aussie!), but only put the tiniest amount on your toast. It is salty, but you will definitely hate it if you put too much. You need to be able to see through it!
Hi Pat, I bought the Lori Holt Quilting Journal on your recommendation. So, I would love to see you working that journal. FQS’ project planner came out later, so maybe we could use that next year? It does not make sense imo to do both at the same time.
I love the way that mat folds up. I live in a one bedroom apartment so space is limited. Things like that would work in my favor. The only thing I've been stalling on is doing my first quilt. I can't really decide on what pattern I'd like to use. I'd love to do a sampler quilt. I need to get one more joy roll of Sensibility to get started. I'll be getting that by Wednesday. I have the batting, backing and border already. 😊
Hey Pat love your vlog and this episode was lovely to watch with a cuppa! Love your quilt decisions too - agree the lovely intentional way you went about your choices. Please don’t try vegemite unless you do a comparison with the UK’s cultural hero Marmite - billions (are you sure - Ed) of Brits from babyhood were fed marmite ‘soldiers’ (bread and butter strips with THINLY (cannot overemphasise that) - so it makes us all go a bit silly and homesick when we’re away and can’t get hold of it - not sure what the US equivalent of that would be???? Maybe do a live taste test - (if you hate either or both that’s fine - our respective countries maybe divided by the format of our yeast extracts - but we share a deep understanding that the rest of the world can’t bear either brand). I recommend lightly toasting white thin bread with good butter and a scraping of marmite. Re my other stitchy interests - I cross stitch and also knit. Till next time - take care Penny
Going to work on my grand daughters quilt from Christmas 2018 .." Candy twist" have all the units cut .. poor little girl keeps waiting for grandma to get it done..
Re: Vegemite - Many years ago I spent a few weeks in Australia and was introduced to this black yeast paste called Vegemite. No offense to Australia, but it is THE most vile stuff I've ever tasted! Love the Australian shortbread though!
Pat: I noticed you had adverts in your chat today. I have no issue with this but would like to know. Do you still get some pennies if I skip the advert when it pops up or do I have to watch the whole thing for you to get pennies? I dont mind either way but would like to help your small family business some how from the UK ☆

Hi Pat! I pulled out my farmers wife quilt blocks. I haven't worked on them for at least 12 months. I'm planning to try and get half a dozen done.
Hi guys I’m out of ICU 💕 in HDU but getting better Cant wait to get home and sewing again💕💕 I have a pink organiser they are fab. 😊 missed you Loads 💕

That traffic jam quilt is awesome!
I will be quilting some very old quilt tops this month

Wasn't feeling good last night so I am watching your fireside chat today. What a great looking giveaway package! The saying on the tote is so cute:)

I love, love, love your Traffic Jam wall hanging. Skinny sashing is perfect and the colors are awesome together!
I have 5 quilts 3 from 2018 and 2 from 2019. I m inspired to get them done!
Pat you make my day so pleasant. For February I hope to complete a sampler wall hanging that I started at a quilting class but I got pneumonia and then it went into the twilight zone of my sewing room. lol
My UFO that I am so anxious to finish (start-lol) is a churn dash quilt that I have chosen the fabrics but haven’t made that first cut yet.
I love your latest Traffic Jam. The sashing is perfect, Pat!

Love your fireside chats! Just got the Winter Wonderland quilt sleigh sampler top done today!! Love it. ❤🐢

I have 3 quilt top done for several years that I'm digging out to baste and machine quilt. Have a wonderful day.
Wow, too much fun!!! Loved looking at all the products and block!

I’m Aussie and love vegemite. Just spread a tiny bit on your toast. Although I like it thick, like spreading peanut butter.
Vegemite (and marmite) are delicious on toast, spread toast with butter while hot so it goes runny, then spread thin layer vegemite on. Yum!
The narrow red sashing is perfect!
I have a Christmas redwork Santa from about 2 years ago that I just found. Trying to finish as a full blown quilt
I just finished a UFO last week. I have several UFO quilts that I plan on getting done this year. From October 2018 to December 2019, I was out of commission due to health issues. Yes lots of butter and small amount Of Vegemite. And Tim tams and you dunk them in your cuppa.
It is interesting that your quilt looks gray to me. The red looks terrific with it.
Yes I have a quilt 5 years old I need to gt done hope to see that done
Hi Pat, I bought the Lori Holt Quilting Journal on your recommendation. So, I would love to see you working that journal. FQS’ project planner came out later, so maybe we could use that next year? It does not make sense imo to do both at the same time.
Can someone please post the main web site that Pat uses. She always says to post in one place. I want to make sure I am going to the right place.

A quilt with some chenille on it has been sitting around. Finishing my experiment will be so satisfying whether it turns out or not.
I am needing to finish a quilt for my son and a baby quilt also.
Thank you for sharing ❤️💗
Loved your chat tonight! ❤️
Vegemite takes some getting used to. Lol!!

Pat might it be Jim N Nick's BBQ sauce? If so I can send you some
that sounds so yummy!
My UFO's are all quilts!
Hello
