What is a MOBA?
Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas, or MOBAs for short, originated as a sub-genre of the RTS (Real-Time Strategy) genre. Because of this, in most MOBA games, the player takes control of a single character from the isometric (top-down) view akin to most RTS games. Typically, in MOBA games, a player takes control of a single character on one of two teams. Those players choose characters that all have their own abilities, or “kits”. To win, the players must use a combination of abilities, teamwork, and strategy to not only best their opponent, but destroy the opponents main structures. A bonus to the genre is that most MOBAs are free games, which is definitely a contributing factor of the their massive success. The genre has many titles, the largest of which being Defense of the Ancients (DoTA) and DoTA 2, League of Legends (LoL), and most recently SMITE!
What is SMITE?
SMITE is one of the more recent free MOBA games to enter the fray. In SMITE you don’t just choose a character, you choose a god. You’ll instantly feel an attachment to characters like Thor and Zeus because even if you don’t know the lore behind them, you’ve at least heard their names before! What makes SMITE so immersive is Hi-Rez Studios’ inclusion of historical lore into the gods’ abilities, kits, and play styles. Thor and Loki aren’t just characters from Marvel comics and movies. They’re also a part of Norse mythology and you can take control of them in SMITE!
What makes SMITE different?
SMITE takes all of the strategy of the top MOBA games and adds another layer of difficulty by putting you into the action! Unlike most MOBA games, SMITE offers players the chance to experience the MOBA genre they know and love from a third-person perspective. This unique perspective allows for an extremely immersive experience unlike any other game in the genre. While this doesn’t sound like such a big change, once you play it you’ll understand! All of these things added together is what has gaming websites everywhere continually rating SMITE as one of the best MOBA games available!
I like how they explained a bit about how to play her instead of just showing moments were she did well and explain what happened.
The Horned King Yeah, that was a nice touch. I hope they are gonna do that from now on.
It would also be nice, if they did some guides for some of the old gods, whom they never did make a reveal video for.

There are two stories, the first one is Medusa asking to go south because she had never seen the sun, Athena denied her, Medusa got angry and accused her of being jealous, Athena got angry, Bam Medusa
And then the second story... Its like the actual lore of Medusa you see here except they left out one core detail, Medusa slept with Poseidon in Athena's sacred temple (Now whether they actually slept or she got raped we don't really know) But in any case she got pregnant from it, Athena got mad (Probably because she slept in the temple, and not you know.. The baby) and once again turned her into Medusa
TheEroku athena didn't turn arachne into the first spider because she outweaved her. her work depicted the gods having mortal weaknesses such as lust and desire. now, this might be true, but it's extremely disrespectful to point it out, especially in the presence of a goddess. it's like saying to fatso that they're a landwhale, it might be true but you shouldn't point it out

@@Shek1nah he did do that, but that wasn't his main mission. He saved Andromeda from an ambiguous sea monster sent by posieden after being disrespected by her parents. Her parents decided best course of action would be to sacrifice their daughter to the monster. Perseus went on the quest to save his mother from a forced marriage, but on his way back, saw the princess in danger. Like any good lad, he swooped down and saved her.

bare in mind that in some stories Medusa was raped by the god of the sea, and cause of her priestess status and needing to remain a virgin and perhaps the fact she was raped at one of the temples of Athena, she was punished for was was done to her. So in her time of need he victim was treated poorly. I really do not think Medusa is a bad person, just she has had some bad things happen to her since the gods pretty much ruined her life and turned their back on her. So ya I can see her going against them.

Thank god someone else noticed the butchered lore. Poseidon actually raped medusa in the temple and medusa had no filiation with him prior. Athena angry that her temple was used as a brothel took it out on medusa and that's how she came to be, and Poseidon got off scotch free. Pretty shitty if you ask me because she was a good person before but then she became angry and vile towards anything
This is a free-to-play game which can be played by people in every age, they cannot just mention things such as rape, its not something that young kids should hear about.

I miss the vertical scroll type god reveal, pretty sure this is the first that didn't do that, I could be wrong about that though.
One thing they should add to medusa to make her more fun to play would be to make the statues she creates upon killing a god permanent. Cause I honestly love them cause some gods get turned to stone at the funniest moments. So please make them indestructible but allow people to move through them and shoot through them so it doesn't affect the gameplay

It’s because it has become something of a trope that she is A, almost completely part snake(Gorgons looked nothing like that, they had wings, bronze legs, and all other sorts of ugly) and B, used a bow and arrow

Aleksandr Merchant I would rather have the archangels from The Book of Enoch and the like be put in. They aren't actually apart of the mythos of Christianity or Jewish people but they are commonly mistaken for it do to the blend in today's modern pop culture. They basically are the battle ready badasses of the mythos and are referred to the seven virtues of Heaven and also represent seven days of the week. They even have connections with the western philosophy of the 4 elements being fire water earth and air but that's more for the main 4 while the other 3 are left out or given lesser known elements.
What are those other lesser elements that they control?
SonOfTheGreeks Well don't know much in detail stuff myself but they are used a lot when anime needs Angelic like characters, especially ones with a combative background.
The number of people that would be offended by Jesus being put in the game, and the fact that he has very boring powers compared to typical mythical deities (I mean, turning water into wine isn't really impressive), I don't think he's going to ever be put in. I think sticking with the more interesting deities from mythologies where the Gods battled one-another and were not all-powerful is the better way to go, and it conveniently also avoids people getting upset quite as much.

That was actually one concept for how her ult worked- Medusa lifted her mask, dealing tick damage in front of her, any God thag took a set number of ticks became stunned

it would have been nice if they made her fight with her steel claws as an assassin like in the original tale, but i like how they took the claws fighting assassin medusa was originally and mixed it with the popular culture medusa that is half snake and uses a bow.

Raggordy I don't think you know what youre talking about, weve known medusa is coming for weeks through datamining on reddit, shes been playable for a week on the pts client, they revealed her last Friday on a dev talk stream specifically to build hype, and they showed her concept art at pax east.

Medusa is actually the youngest of 3 gorgon sisters, and she was killed. When the blood from her head dripped into the sea Pegasus was born.
Her 2 sisters were immortals and she wasnt,she was head chopped by perseus and he used her head to petrify hes enemies

On April Fool's Day, I had intended on learning Medusa after trying out the unknown Match of the Day. But due to the rules, our teams' selections were swapped, and I received Medusa. So I had to try her out earlier than expected.
And I made the enemy team regret it by taking them down one by one.

She doesn't use anything besides her gaze at lore. If she was that lore accurate in SMITE she would not have any ability, just the passive: "Medusa's passive is called Petrifying Gaze: every living thing that looks at Medusa is turned into stone and executed from full health."

Incoming LoL fanboys talking about Cassiopeia, so lame... I have to say one thing though, they should try to make the ultimate more creative, Cassiopeia and Medusa (Dota2) already have a very similar ultimate, and Dota's Medusa uses a bow too, so maybe they could have gone for another weapon too. But that just me though, it may be really difficult to make something 100% distinct, taking in consideration that all theses characters are based/inspired on the same greek myth.

It's kinda implied he raped her. How is a mortal woman suppose to refuse the advances of a god? Answer: she can't. As a priestess she was to remain a virgin so she would never consent. So Posiedon took her by force, which was easy for him cause he's a god and has supernatural strength.

Many people are forgetting that in the Ancient Greek story Medusa and Poseidon actually had sex in Athena's temple, which made Athena turn Medusa into the gorgon, not just the fact that Medusa was a priestess (while not an excuse I feel like people would be complaining less if they knew the whole story)

That is just not how it works. A demi-god is someone who has blood relations to a god. Medusa is a Monster...Not a god...very different. Not hard to understand

Medusa was a Gorgon. Her and her two sisters could also do it lol
In the original story poseidon forced himself on medusa and since athena couldn't directly attack another god she punished medusa

Medusa was actually the spawn of Echidna but unlike her siblings, SHE was beautiful...once.
But then, Athena grew jealous of her when Poseidon tried to woo Medusa in her temple and in her rage; she transformed the once beautiful maid into a hideous creature
If you think about it, why did Athena punish her considering that she literally was not allowed to say no to Poseidon.
I find it funny that her gaze is her most powerful weapon and she decides to go with a mask to battle... But cool!
While the Reveal was outstanding, it's so much different from the stories I read. From what I heard, Medusa didn't want to lose her virginity to anyone, not even to a God like Poseidon. Poseidon intruded on Athena's Temple and ravished Medusa against her will. From what I heard, Athena cursed her former Priestess for three reasons:
One reason, was that Athena had a crush on Poseidon (Don't ask why) and was jealous that Medusa got the Sea God interested in her and not the Goddess Medusa devoted her life to. The second reason was Medusa's unparalleled beauty, which is what got Poseidon compelled in the first place and Athena used Medusa's sexual assault as an excuse to turn her into a scaly, snake monster. And the final reason was that it took place in Athena's Temple, which only filled the Goddess with disgust at what had happened.
