I am extremely confused as to how it’s even possible to not say a word in your head when you read. How in the world do you comprehend a word without saying it in your head?
2:20 explains that you can only water down the habit, no one can get rid of it fully:) I was also confused, because I felt like it was impossible... because it is!!
Hahaha lord 🤣😂 I was trying to follow along at the 350 wpm pace and was like holy shit I'm dumb... That's way to fast. Then I remembered I'm watching this video on 2x speed lmao.
man, thank you SO much for this! every. single. video. on this topic is someone just telling us what it is & that we should reduce it, without much info on how we CAN reduce it. this video, along with the website you've created, really made a difference. THANK YOU!
Thank you for 2:20 other videos were making me think subvocalization could be eradicated fully!! I felt like that was impossible, and now I know it is 😂
For me focusing on my breathing helps me a lot in reducing it. Of course I still say the words in my head but if I don’t focus completely on the reading but partly focus on something else like my breathing it gets a lot less:)
Thank you so much for this! I’ve heard the counting out loud while you read method and it’s impossible for me to do. I am then not reading anything, just counting and looking at symbols. I tend to talk a lot faster than I read though. 😬 I have a lot of books I want to read but it takes me so much longer to get through them than other people. I’ve been trying different methods but the subvocalizing is a hard habit to break. This tool seems to work much better for me. I am definitely going to practice with this.
I think I'd be throwing all of my comprehension out the window if I tried this. I usually can't comprehend what I'm reading if I read as fast as I talk, I have to slow it down and then still catch myself reading without paying attention so I have to reread a lot of paragraphs twice, or sometimes three or four times before I actually pay attention to what was said.
I can't read without my inner monologue. i see words as a visual representation of noises made by the human mouth. To read with out the inner voice is like trying to experience music by looking at an oscilloscope.
@@diegovera1353 I am not even shore what that would be like. what do words even mean with out sound? If I learned to read and write before learning to talk and listen maybe I could do it. But I was late learning to read and write.
Its good for everyone because without it you wouldn't know what you read you would only see shapes. Keep practicing, reading is a skill like anything else everyone can get better ! Try if you can to buy a book of Jim Kwik he is a great teacher for all sorts of learning, including memory and reading.
@@denis3208 Any suggestion on how to start getting pictures from reading words without having to subvocalize it. Clarification - English is a 2nd language so we never learned basic vocabulary through picture words.
I can do 3 words at a time by 600 words per minute, 800 was a struggle and 1200 (reading speed of JFK) my comprehension was stretched. I still have to practice. But now I know what you mean by reducing sub subvocalization, thank you !
Very appreciative for this video. Thank you. It is limiting my speed reading. Seems that I have difficulties to eliminate it from my reading. Blessings.

Eliminating subvocalization is impossible. Everybody needs to subvocalize words.

Does anyone else subvocalize extremely quickly? When I read I subvocalize faster than I can talk so basically It’s like a sentence in my head is being read at 2x speed if that makes sense. Can anyone relate?
I can listen to a you Tube audiobook at 2x yet I can’t speed read, I talk fast because my dads dad is abadonian from the uk, I took a speed reading test and I’d i had a good rest I can read a paragraph in one min and 350mph honesty.
This feels like skimming and only getting half of the information or I'm probably just stupid. reading is fun but reading like this feels like it takes away from it.
I have a memory like a dead squirl and not good memory maybe it’s because I’ve got a minor learning disability maybe I can’t speed read and patialy sighted, maybe that’s why, if you don’t know what you read how can you enjoy the book? If I just look at the words how can I enjoy the book if I can’t remember it?

I just can’t fathom that some people don’t hear a mind voice. Hell! I even read each comment with a different voice. Even as I type this comment it has one.
Does this mean that rather than not saying all words in your head, you only say like 50% of the words in the head and completely skip the rest of the words as if they didn't exist. So for example. The previous sentence is read in the head like "Does this mean not saying all words only say 50% words skip rest didn't exist". Is it possible to read the sentence without reading any single word in the head?
I unknowingly say my inner thoughts out loud in class. It's embarrassing because I apparently i say my thoughts in third person out loud and people just look at me weirdly and I don't know why.
This is a useless skill, takes all the fun out of reading if you just read really fast, talking in your head is much more fun and you understand everything better
I enjoyed the presentation. Please pardon my saying but the acoustics are sharp allowing me to hear each time your swallow. Quite distracting. Sorry. Semper Fi

How is it going so far? Have you reduce subvocalisation since?

Great tool guys. Thank you so much. this is very helpful
Really ...let me see whether it work on me ...cause Its difficult for me to understand stuff ..
I have a doubt with having a subvocalization how can we understand?
There is a difference between reading something and comprehending something.
Thanks, Paul. Its very helpfull

What to do if you can read it but can't remember, recall or comprehend it at higher speed?

Eminem can subvocalize quicker than you do
Yeah same! Im a fast talker too So I read fast. so when I figured out that hearing what I read is slowing me down I want to learn to remove it.
if you subvocalize that means you are gonna read as fast as u can talk.
Eminem: MENACING
Quite an incredible tool 👏
While i read subvocalization not hear word aloud in my head

Thank god im a fast talker so I read fast too. But I want to remove it but I cant understan sht
So you never remove the sub voice in your head, you just jump from word that has meaning and put them together?
Yeah, that’s exactly how I understood it too. Hmm 🤔
This feels like skimming and only getting half of the information or I'm probably just stupid. reading is fun but reading like this feels like it takes away from it.

why if I can't stop repeating everything I hear too like I am constantly hearing thing twice I hate that
I have no idea how someone can read something would a inner voice.
How does that work?
My speed is 448 wpm with subvocalisation
with 50-60% of comprehension
Can I be a god without subvocalisation
What god man?? You’re just a human being.
If I was able to learn how touch type, I can do this
Definitely!
I'm trying to pray without ceasing and it is hard while reading
I think a little thank you Lord now and then will suffice
But if u read like that you will understand less then when u read normaly, idk am i right?

When you see a "STOP" sign, do you say "stop"?
wow i talk really fast
Awesome explanation
I can hear fast audio, but I can't read fast
I've got you beat then, I can do neither
If I read non-fiction I do not sub vocalise.
I could do subvocalization at 350wpm watching the video at 1.25 speed.
When you kept up but don't comprehend 💀
this is like reading and missing all the details, i can't imagine how anyone could read a technical book like this, this is a useless skill imho
i have a 27 inch pc monitor and i spent the majority of this video watching through a matchbox.
