Have been getting back into sewing again after several months of procrastination. I'm making another pair of trousers and wanted to find some inspiration on youtube and here your video pops up like the stars have alligned! It's impressive that you were able to take in 9 inches! while they definitely have a much different sillouette now, if that's your thing, it opens the doors to many possibilities for what can be done with a pair of trousers.
I actually have several pants that I treated this way. You would never tell they were initially 4 sizes too large. It addresses several points at once really : I love pleats, this way I get to have them. Having a thin waist and muscular legs, pant shopping used to be a nightmare. No more. Now I can get wonderful pants with cloths from VBC and Loro Piana, for absolute bargains at the thrift shop, AND have them fit like they are supposed to :)))
I love how they turned out! I found you because I am taking in my grandpa's ww2 army jacket to fit me as well as possible, so it was cool to see the man to lady trouser fitting
@@AspiringGent pretty big, I have done my best taking in the first shoulder and I brought that in 2 inches. He was tall too, but I think I will keep the length.
@@greatjob_barbara Depending on the shape maybe it would look cool oversize like some trendy designs right now. But I still haven't figured out if I still would have to alter the arms or something like that so that it doesn't look so obviously a male jacket.
Louis, intriguingly provocative topic.... You sir, you are a masterful clothier! I'm literally impressed! I wish your shop was out here in my neck of the woods.... I could totally utilize a master tailor such as yourself... How's your shop going? I'm sensing that your brand has climbed greatly!
@@AspiringGent hey Louis, yeah you have grown so much or at least from what I can tell. I'm out here in southern california, San Marino california 91108 in the San Gabriel valley near Pasadena. We have a great tailor by the name of BILL CAIRO. You and your brand of shop reminds me of this tailor.
I'm so glad I found this video, I'm considering doing something similar (although I'll only be needing to take about 2-3" off the waist). I've sewn a ton of things from scratch but I don't have nearly as much experience modifying preexisting clothes, and I couldn't find anyone else who'd tried adding pleats to take a waist in so I wanted to make sure I wasn't getting in too over my head.
Awesome job. I Love the Difficulty and Challenge of Redoing Paints. I have also Shortened the Zipper / Crotch length! And It was a Task well worth it! Cheers!
This is what I want to do with some trousers. But thereare some steps I think would be more clear with a wide view, it is so close up sometimes I get lost about where it's happenning. I also didn't understand how the waistband was closed as I didn't see you trim the spare fabric and I don't know how you closed it afterwards!
Excellent video. Thank you. So happy I found it. I need to take in the waistband of my husband's trousers 6 inches. I especially like the idea of adding pleats. I might have missed it but did you shorten the waistband, too?
Sir! Can we get some vid about doing pleats to a flat front trousers, without removing the whole waistband, as the classic old style pleated trousers, with pleats going all the way to the top of waistband.
Thinking the opposite direction... I like to add pleats to a pants pattern but can never get enough space in the front. Maybe going for 3 sizes up on the front pieces is a way to go?
Hey Mate! Super happy to find your channel. I’ve always designed and sewn female garments. And now I’m finally doing what I like most and that’s male clothes. So in some areas I am still learning, pants specifically. I have a question, if I have my basic pants block, and I wanna add 2 pleats to my pattern without adding width to the bottom. Would recommend to use the slice and spread method? Thank you in advance 🙏🏼 Keep the videos coming 😁😁
This may sound weird but if i have low waisted pants with extra length would it be possible to cut and extend the crotch so the pants sit at a medium rise? Or would this fundamentally change the pants in an unwearable way?
I've done this with a pair of pants that i have and as long as you try to match the original look of the stitching it should be fine. I just searched on UA-cam for tutorials on making low rise jeans into high waist, the tutorial i found was really beginner friendly though and their result looked pretty visibly altered (so i just added some extra steps to make sure it looked like the original seam. It'd probably be more or less difficult depending on if you're changing jeans or dress pants, but it's definitely doable)
Great video, I'm learning to tailor because a lot of my thrifted pants don't fit, these videos are so helpful
So glad to hear that! Thanks for watching!

Definitely get back to it! And yes it’s amazing the possibilities you can achieve in sewing!

That’s awesome! How big is the jacket on you?

Thanks again! Remind me where you are from again? Maybe we'll make a trip! Shop is well still trying to grow the best we can!

We can give it a try. However I think the waistband would need removed to cut it down to reduce bulk.
@@AspiringGent yeah maybe 'cause those trousers didn't have waistband padding and today one's usually have, gotcha

I plan on doing this to my suits and trousers when I lose the weight 😅
The outcome was pleasing, and the fabric's weight was contemporary.

How did you disassemble, shorten and reassemble the waists band? I'm new to this
Awesome! ❤
Any suggestions on how to become a tailor? Fantastic job on the pants!
UA-cam and books!
Wouldn’t the waistband be far too long after these alterations? Did you shorten it too?
what is that watch I love that bracelet?
Nice video, sir.
Many many thanks!
Very cool thank you!
