I am Japanese and I am very inspired when I played this game. It reminded me of honor and nationalism we had which we seldom think about today. Old Japan revolved around poetics and beauty in our day to day life. This game managed to translate that into visuals which I find myself aweing the scenery often. I've been told that my family line was involved in boshin war. I can't imagine what my ancestors has gone through. And I should honor their sacrifice more often. I like to thank this game to remind myself where I am from and also not to forget to carry this to the future.
I went from being midly interested in this game to being unbelievably hyped in the space of one month. Preordered it last week and have been waiting eagerly ever since. The combat just looks too good.
@@hcaz5818 Me. After playing Sekiro, I doubt I'll enjoy the combat just as much. The stealth looks like the basic stealth you'd find in Assassin's Creed. The open world looks cool enough. If it has a good story and side quests, I'll buy it.
I haven't seen any type of limb severing so far, if there isn't any in the game I'll be disappointed, since I'm sure I saw it in a trailer before. Combat still looks really good though.
You didn't touch on it, but the weather is really incredible. After finding all of the crickets you can use your flute to play different songs to aid in battle. You can add fog, bring rain, or a thunderstorm. Or you could clear the skies and make everything lush and beautifully swept in color and vibrancy. I loved that touch.
right there with you, i heard a reviewer describe it as the witcher meets assassins creed and all i could think was "more like Tenchu". So hyped for this game, can't wait to get my hands on it :)
I love these wive-swap projects like when JPN developers borrow Western inspired elements to create games like dark souls. And now we have this masterfully crafted game from a western developer! The JPN audience must be impressed and proud.
In my experience, I think we often find the cultures and histories of others more interesting because they are so unfamiliar. Most friends I have made from Japan do not understand why I find their history/culture so interesting (but are happy I do) and I don't often see why they find Western things so interesting either. Regardless, I think it is a positive thing, the more we embrace and share our cultures the more likely it will be that they will remain as we continue in a world that keeps getting smaller and smaller.
@@thehat2032 maybe is a "grass looks greener on the other side" thing. People don't give too much value to the things they're used to and a foreign culture seems more intriguing than their own. (Btw I also love japanese culture)
@@DantesInferno96 Its just a saying, there was a terrible Western show before where someone would go and live with a different family. Mmm... No not really. Shinobi were not assassins. They deliberately avoided combat as much as possible. Most shinobi were also samurai, and shinobi were not viewed as "dishonorable" by the Japanese public.
Unsure where you got most of these things from. Actually, many shinobi (not all) were assassins. They did avoid combat, but there are documented cases of shinobi sharpshooters and poison experts attempting the lives of notable figures. Also, most shinobi were not samurai. They were majorly trained from the common caste. The part about the Japanese public is true, but they were viewed as dishonorable by Samurai ruling class.
Fun fact: Samurai romanticism started in the Edo period. 300 years of peace time, samurai really got nothing to do but train and master other non-combat arts. The game is set during the Kamakura period, non-samurai tactics shouldn't be a big deal.
Same experience in Dragon's Dogma way back on PS3. There was even an area where gusts of winds were so strong it would blow your character back. Another cool thing was you had to bring out your lantern at night because of how dark it was. And you had to because enemies at night were more lethal than the ones during the day, with exceptions of giant ones. Sorry, but such cool systems in that game.
One of my most anticipated games in years not just this year go back a few years and what games where better as of what u won’t in a game I been anticipating this games since it was announced fuck this year this is one of my most anticipated games ever period
I've played for a few hours now, and I'm just so enthralled by this game... I knew next to nothing about it going in, and I love it. The gameplay is fun to master, the graphics and map design are just BREATHTAKING, and the story has enough oomph and pizzazz to compliment all of that very nicely. Because I knew nothing about the game before I bought it, I wasn't too interested. I really bought it on a whim, and it has been a pleasant surprise so far! It's just refreshing to have a samurai game without any outlandish monsters to fight and such. Don't get me wrong, I like those games too. Just nice to have a good ol' fashioned samurai game, y'know?
Based on Japanese history, the stages of the game are based on famous battle which actually took place in ancient Japan. ....So here's this giant enemy crab.
You think this is a joke ?! My great great great great great great great great grandfathers friends father's kyodai fought against that crab and lost a testicles!!
This game has looked incredible and GOTY worthy through everything i've seen, it's definitely my most anticipated game of the year, i cannot wait until the 17th to finally be able to play this.
I feel most of the negatives in gameplay that you pointed are minor adjustments they could fix in a month or two if they released a demo and got the feed back from the players. Hope they can retouch it even after release since it would make it from what it seems great game to a amazing one.
Some might be even wanted, like the right timing to press buttons and not just smash as fast as you can (like arcade fighting games to complete combos) or not having lockon making it more difficult. It might destroy the flow of the fight when your not good / experienced enough at first, but when you get good and place yourserlf correctly you feel like you accomplished something and you have a way to get better. I am already stoked for the amazing cinematic short movies that will come out with this game.
The patches have really ironed out the game, haven't experienced many of the bugs mentioned in the video so far. There are a few for sure, but if you have played Witcher 3 on PS4, this is far more polished than that atm
TW3 is not complex... you can play that game as a hack'n'slash as well... it's just that it's easier once you embrace the sigils, and the progressions.
Lol saying it's combat is more complex than TW3 is like saying it's more complex then LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean. I beat TW3 on the hardest difficulty just spamming that ability that makes me eat a single attack at no damage regardless of how powerful. All it takes is either patience or trying a little harder and using poison on everything.
I love how SkillUp notes how a lock on system would’ve been detrimental to the combat but Yong said he would’ve preferred it. Goes to show how even some of my most trusted reviewers can have their own subjective opinions
Makes you realize that one man's negative is another's positive. So the best bet is to use their opinions as guides but really try to enjoy the game on your by your own standards and levels of enjoyment. But I figure I'm preaching to the choir here. 😅
I've been joking since it was announced that Suckerpunch must have got sick of waiting for Ubisoft to make an assassins creed set in japan and decided to do their own take on it.
Forgetting just the setting, they seem to be doing what assassin's creed was and should be doing, being a historical open world action adventure game with cinematic storytelling and gameplay with an immersive world and mechanics, not this RPG stuff they're doing now. As a huge AC fan, I've preordered this.
AAA Loot Shooters: "Here's an avalanche of gear, most of which is crap. You'll need to grind for the good stuff." Ghosts of Tsushima: "You will find all the gear by playing, though you need a few playthroughs to get it all." Players: "Uh-" Ghosts of Tsushima: "You can also upgrade and customize your gear in crazy detail." Players: "I'lL tAkE yOuR eNtIrE sToCk!"
Just be careful about setting your hopes up. If Naughty Dog taught/reminded us of anything, there is a possibility of a developer making a disappointing game.
The "way of the samurai" series was my favorite. A hugely underappreciated game, and while it didnt have the best graphics, it did have a fun story and the swordplay was great (especially in the 4th game). Now i can't wait to play Ghost of Tsushima
Way of the samurai 4 had so many fighting styles like legit it was crazy, and like 12 endings. It was a game you could replay and replay. Like the game is very short and it's meant to be replayed. It's also super cool, like the first playthrough you're weak and by the next one you're a bit stronger. Then the third one you're basically an OP samurai this is due to upgrading weapons which carry through playthroughs. Also you unlock costumes and outfits for your samurai when you do certain side quests or when you get specific endings. It was also pretty funny to pick a side then mid story decide to literally attack everyone. Also getting one of the true endings made you unlock a gun. And the Engrish from the British soldiers was hilarious. Way of the samurai 3 was also an awesome game but the tone was much more series. But unlike 4 in 3 you could switch to a non lethal fighting stance and also beat up every single character in the story at almost anytime you see them
bro i've been waiting for a new way of the samurai, i remember i grinded the shit out of part 4 a few years ago to get the legendary ending. such a good game even though the graphics weren't great
This game is a masterpiece, from the visual art, music and fighting style mechanics to the gear selection options you can get so that you can improve your choice of fighting style. Love this game.

phutureproof there a often times pre order bonuses but if I had to answer for myself. A pre order shows your faith in a game. It doesn’t offer much other than your core faith and passion for a game to be successful. I only pre order a game if I have a strong feeling I will love the game but I only pre order special editions which is the biggest reason to pre order games in my opinion because sometimes the special editions sell out and become hard to get after launch. I almost missed out on the special edition of ghost of Tsushima but I somehow snagged a copy from Walmart.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for taking the time and effort in creating this review. It's so nice to see, that the Industry always has another Ace up their sleeves to release when we thought that we've seen it all. To many more years of great gaming adventures!
Yes sir. When From began teasing Sekiro, I was hoping so much that they were bringing Tenchu back. But alas, it was practically another Souls game. Ghost of Tsushima has really filled that void that was left by the departure of Tenchu.
pxgq55a It feels like a love letter to both Tenchu and Ninja Gaiden.. I was so impressed by the early footage I decided to preorder when it was originally shown
the gaming industry is so repetitive that I get shocked when I see a genuinely unique and original game that's innovating. EDIT: maybe innovation is not a good way to describe this game I get it, I said that since the combat seemed more complicated and unique to me than it actually is.
there's nothing unique or innovating about this title. half life alyx and boneworks are innovating. this is not lmao. same shit just different coat of paint
After Playing, And Completing Sekiro, I Fell In Love With Feudal Era Japan, And It’s Mythological Lore. Getting To Fountainhead Palace Was Most Certainly A Treat, And Beautiful Aesthetically.
I highly recommend Nioh1 and 2, it covers lore though out the entirety of Japan during the Sengoku era, as well as thousands of years of myths. It's the one soulslike with the deepest lore, even when compared to Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Every single character including the main character are historical characters, every location and weapon are drawn from real history, geography and myth. It also has the deepest combat mechanics of all soulslike games as well as sheer variety in set building.
@@belisarius6949 The Sengoku Jidai refers to a certain timeframe in Feudal Japan. It's the time from 1467 to 1615. The time of Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomo Hideyoshi and Takeda Shingen.

@deadeye445 How is it not bullshit? I hate it when enemies become bullet sponges or they have to be assassinated multiple times just because they are a higher level.
I love AJ for his humor and skits during his reviews but for a truly artistic, detailed and extremely deep dive into a game as far as reviews go you are my guy for now on!
The Handful of weapons, armors, and dyeing of clothes remindes me of the Two to Revelatins era of Assassins Creed games. The wind compass and golden bird mechanics are amazing. I love stuff like that, which uses the game world instead of HUD elements like you said. I will definitely be picking this game up.
I gotta say, I've been watching your channel for some time and you've come a long way with your reviews. This has to be one of the best I've seen on your channel. Please keep this up because I really think you're hitting your stride.
IGN's written review is vastly more detailed and gets deeper into flaws and strengths. Their video reviews never exceed 12 minutes, and rarely exceed 8.
@@xOogieBoogie3x It's BECAUSE they're always trying to stay within that time limitation that they seldom get a great picture of a game across when the review itself isn't outright bad. You've got things twisted if you think shorter means better in this aspect. You could easily miss out on things while trying to be clear and concise. That said, I don't find any part of the information spoken in this review to be irrelevant. I'd rather have this methodical 25 minute format that covers all these aspects than the other side but to each his own.
"Does hovering and rotating like this make my butt armor look fat to you?" Not gonna lie... The last thing he sees before heading to the afterlife sure is something interesting to talk about tho. lol.
The game looks beautiful, Ubisoft is doing a bad thing if they still want to release Assassin's Creed: Valhalla this year. First Ghost of Tsushima and Cyberpunk 2077 later.
@@DrMoxmoReadings, to be fair, they didn't do this on purpose, Cyberpunk was pushed out twice, which ended up landing them on that day. I'm still not buying anything from Ubisoft until they change as a company.

Why would they make a japan based game???? That is just ridiculous. We have already tonnes of japanese games. I honestlywould not like a AC game in Japan. Now scandinavian based game is more better for AC game and should have happened way earlier imo.
Peo Fr how many realistic, sword fighting samurai games can you name on the PS4? There’s millions of games where you’re a knight or you’re in medieval Europe

Are you insane?
Your reviews are incredibly detailed and have a great flow and structure. They have a film makers edge to them in how you creatively edit moments and transition! In comparison to some you tubers who seem to be getting lazy in some regards, your reviews are quickly becoming the best on UA-cam 👍
Aside from all of the news. I kept forgeetting you make badass and informative game reviews. You review games without giving a proper score to evaluate the overall quality of the game, but rather give a detailed presentation, elaborate certain elements and key selling points to properly define the game's positive and negative aspects as well as throwing some personal reactions. Im glad i had the bell notif on for this chanmel.
I remember seeing this in 2017 and thinking ‘this game was made for me’ I can’t wait. Glad I saved my money by not buying TLOUPII trash, this game will give the PS4 a proper sendoff!
This game took over my weekend. I absolutely love it! I was really impressed that the game rarely forces you into a specific approach, so you can decide whether you want to be stealthy, or loud. I also loved how when you first use "dishonourable" tools and tactics, you sometimes get Jin reflecting on how his behaviour is unbecoming of a Samurai. I know everyone has compared this to Assassin's Creed, but I think it's more like Tenchu.
@Red Line Well, the Ezio trilogy was very good because of its story and the beautiful world. At this times graphics were some of the best (I am only speaking of consoles) and the gameplay wasn't that repetitive like in the new ACs and was also much more "true" to an assassin's behaviour. After that it went downhill because they pissed on the cool story and with the new direction they took with Origins, AC is just dead.
The title says it all. For me, it's easily one of my favorite games of 2020 and I'd even say a strong contender for game of the year.

Tacitus Kilgore very true. However I think this close to release you can almost entirely bet on the core mechanics being set. Maybe it’s just bias showing for this game, but it’s a breath of fresh air and something the AC games could learn from.

I feel most of the negatives in gameplay that you pointed are minor adjustments they could fix in a month or two if they released a demo and got the feed back from the players. Hope they can retouch it even after release since it would make it from what it seems great game to a amazing one.
They said they are releasing a 10GB update on the 17 or 25 correct me if I'm wrong
The creative director at sucker punch says that they will accept criticism
The patches have really ironed out the game, haven't experienced many of the bugs mentioned in the video so far. There are a few for sure, but if you have played Witcher 3 on PS4, this is far more polished than that atm
I'm impressed how sophisticated and fluent the combat looks. Nothing like AC: Vallhalla and more complex that TW3, tho I liked it there.
TW3 is not complex... you can play that game as a hack'n'slash as well... it's just that it's easier once you embrace the sigils, and the progressions.

AC Valhalla's combat looks janky af.
Lol saying it's combat is more complex than TW3 is like saying it's more complex then LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean. But unlike 4 in 3 you could switch to a non lethal fighting stance and also beat up every single character in the story at almost anytime you see them

the gaming industry is so repetitive that I get shocked when I see a genuinely unique and original game that's innovating.

“There is no assassin‘s creed RPG higher level bull crap” Yo when I heard that I died laughing 😂 but you ain’t never lie!💯
assassin's creed is the most grindey, spongy, and uninspired game I've ever played.
Same here lol. Overall I like the Assassin's Creed series but the RPG higher level stuff is BS.
@@kratostheinevitable3932 The older games were much better than the newer ones. The newer ones are defo just level grinds for no reason.
@deadeye445 How is it not bullshit? I hate it when enemies become bullet sponges or they have to be assassinated multiple times just because they are a higher level.
0816 M3RC literally the reason I don’t think I will buy cyberpunk unless there’s insta kill headshots
See that mountain? You can't climb it.
You can
Goddamnit, Hodd Toward.
@@n7kasumi99 Look at his user name. He is making a joke.
I remember I can climb it vertically using a horse Todd, day one skyrim memories.
I love AJ for his humor and skits during his reviews but for a truly artistic, detailed and extremely deep dive into a game as far as reviews go you are my guy for now on!
This review made me pre-order the game. Playstation, keep sending this man games.
give a like to this comment so Sony can see it.
Send me games ill tell people to pre order too
Good games* (no need to send anything Naughty Dog)
The Handful of weapons, armors, and dyeing of clothes remindes me of the Two to Revelatins era of Assassins Creed games. The wind compass and golden bird mechanics are amazing. I love stuff like that, which uses the game world instead of HUD elements like you said. I will definitely be picking this game up.
I gotta say, I've been watching your channel for some time and you've come a long way with your reviews. This has to be one of the best I've seen on your channel. Please keep this up because I really think you're hitting your stride.
Ghost of Tsushima, one of the greatest and almighty games in 2020.
The reviews of ghost of tsushima have been great thus far, can't wait to pickup my copy
Yh except for gamespot
fan reviews or video game "journalists"?
@@shamz883 gamespot reviewers have been smoking too much crack
The BadderMan they gave that shit game an 8 🤣🤣🤣
What euro gamer gave!?
"Jumping and vaulting could feel a little...floatier than I'd like,"
So, it's inFamous again?
It isn't as floaty as in inFamous but it's still pretty floaty lol
The Virgin TLOU 2
The Chad Ghost of tsushima
Accurate.
This review basically Ghost slaughters anything IGN did this year
@Iain Steele big facts specially ac
Yong, you really going to critique that, "Idle NPC animations would load late." When i just saw the inside of Jin's EYEBALLS! 23:09
14:38 some dude be dying in the background and Jin be like:
"I think it looks better in red"
"Does hovering and rotating like this make my butt armor look fat to you?"
Not gonna lie... The last thing he sees before heading to the afterlife sure is something interesting to talk about tho. lol.
Can't wait to pick up mine on release! Your review is way way way more professional than half-assed IGN
It really makes you FEEL like a Samurai in feudal Japan. Anyone who says otherwise is nitpicking, and biased. I win. Bye-bye!
2 memes in one.

The game looks beautiful, Ubisoft is doing a bad thing if they still want to release Assassin's Creed: Valhalla this year. First Ghost of Tsushima and Cyberpunk 2077 later.
Actually, the real stupidy is that they are releasing Valhalla only two days before Cyberpunk. They are clearly trying to get that thing smothered.
@@DrMoxmoReadings Fr that shit is beyond dumb
@@DrMoxmoReadings, to be fair, they didn't do this on purpose, Cyberpunk was pushed out twice, which ended up landing them on that day. I'm still not buying anything from Ubisoft until they change as a company.
Assassins creed will likely be delayed a week or two to avoid it, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if cyberpunk is delayed again either
"I feel the game does Assassin's Creed better than Assassin's Creed".
Shots fired👉💥
Stop, please stop, he's already dead! 😭😭😭
Jeez Yongyea, your review sound so official and professionnal, loved it!
Players: we would love an AC based in Japan!
Ubisoft: Of course you want one in Europe.
Players: That was cool but Japan would be great.
Ubisoft: You want to go to Europe again!? Ok sure thing.
Players: -__-
Sucker Punch: we got you fam.
Why would they make a japan based game???? That is just ridiculous. We have already tonnes of japanese games. I honestlywould not like a AC game in Japan. Now scandinavian based game is more better for AC game and should have happened way earlier imo.
@@peo4989 i agree, so sick of ppl crying for an ac in japan.
Peo Fr how many realistic, sword fighting samurai games can you name on the PS4? There’s millions of games where you’re a knight or you’re in medieval Europe
@@peo4989 Year 1000 Scandinavia, with almost no buildings other than small single wood houses and where every battle were fought full face on, without hiding, is a better setting than year 1200 Japan with his tall castles and temples and where many peoplein power were hunted and killed by assassin's hiding in shadows? Are you insane?
@@peo4989 Your arguements are baseless and stupid.
Good to know mah boi sucker punch nailed it again, been with them since the sly cooper days and it makes me happy that they are still strong today.
I had fun with Infamous: Second Son too
@liquid sword Any possible next Infamous game could be anything. They ended Second Son quite open ended.
"...does Assassin's Creed better than Assassin's Creed."
All I needed to hear.
Sadly AC is shit....so that doesn't really say much. I am sure it is a great game though lol.
@@truedps8 AC is shit, cuz it's no AC anymore...
So the statement lifts up GoT in this sense.
