Tarantino haters are so annoying. He is the most innovative script writer we've had in the last 30 years. If you trash him you are jealous of him.
Or just don’t understand his art. It’s like when a comedian tells a joke and you don’t get it you don’t get mad at him and tell him he’s not funny. I feel like it should be the same way with movies.
no lol, idiot
But also cause he defends Polanski's crimes
Ahh, criticism without depth. Like a Tarantino film. Lessee... They're all _TOTALLY_ male-oriented. Women in his films never have agency, are always at best adjuncts to the story, like cars. That's one large criticism I've never read anywhere.
This doesn't seem like much in itself: but look at how much is closed off just by that. "We have to do this for Charlie" had nothing, _no_ depth or conviction, was just an empty *attempt at* giving 'motivation' to someone who had none. Even in Kill Bill, it feels like someone going through the motions in a male-centric way to boot, as did the female villains.
It felt like an all-male movie starring some women.
There's more to say. But that in itself should get people to see again what they've been missing.
@@choosecarefully408 what's that? you don't like him because you're jealous of him? ok.
What the f^#k is happening to the world?! The movie theater I worked in/at growing up in my hometown is closed. No one loves the movies anymore. It depresses me severely. Theaters are going away the way that the Drive-ins did when I was just a kid.
Working at the theater, as a projection-ist was the happiest time in my life. The people I met and worked with were like my family. We watched new films, ( to make sure that there were no bad splices) every Thursday night before the movies were officially released on Fridays. We practically lived there while I was in high school, and in the summers, we did. We partied in the theater, we dated each other, and most of all, we LOVED movies. Movies were our conversation. People who didn't know movies need not apply.
And now it's gone.
Listening to Quentin Tarantino reminds me that the experience of going to the public movie theater is a fellowship experience that we can't replace. We can't let go of it. Seeing awesome cinematography on a theater screen connot be replaced. It's almost a spiritual ritual we experience. Listening to Quentins reviews and understanding all that he has achieved reminds me of all of that.Quentn Tarantino is awesome.
No one likes GOING to the movies anymore. Movies themselves are doing fine, people just prefer watching at home than at a theatre
The only theatres worth going to these days are ones in larger cities that screen smaller release films. If you’re from a small town like me there’s no reason to go the movies bc all that’s ever playing is an MCU or fast and furious movie, punctuated by the occasional Tyler Perry flick. That’s not worth a $20 admission
@@Glassandcandy And that's the problem that's making them close
@Glassandcandy I respectfully disagree. I believe that if the company producing a film releases it at home and in the theater simultaneously then most people will opt for the lazy and perhaps cheaper choice of sitting at home playing with their phone not really delving into the story unfolding on their television screen. However, the reward for a person to attend a film projected on screen in a darkened theater with a date or friends and experiencing the collective emotional journey together with the audience of fellow strangers cannot even begin to compare. In recent years, UA-cam has posts from various sources called "audience reactions." My favorite was the audience reaction to Endgame. It made me cry. My point is that we as human beings actually long for a collective feeling of togetherness and hope despite our numerous differences. The moment I heard people of all race, color, creed, and social class begin to cry together, cheer together, take to their feet and high five total strangers in the next row simply because CAPTAIN America lifted Mjulnire Thors hammer and lay the beat down on Thanos gives me hope. That is an experience I would gladly pay to have again and again.
I think that just because they can release it at home, opening night doesn't mean that they should.
Additionally, if I were the artist who directed, wrote, or performed in the film I would feel a little insulted if the film we worked so hard on weren't worth showing on the silver screen.
Please at least have every new movie available only in theaters for a few months first before streaming it.
@Glassandcandy Theater owners are my main concern, not Hollywood. It's also a significant shift in our social interaction and priorities. Social interactions are more important than you may think. Soon, I worry that a couple won't go out on a date anymore they will have a virtual reality date instead. Virtual isn't good enough for me. I like to go out and spend time with a woman. 😄
Sly Stallone had to rewrite the ending of Rocky II because Talia Shire (however you spell her name) had to leave the production and start filming The Prophecy! So that is why Adrian & Paulie ended up watching Rocky fight on TV because she came back to film the ending!

Okay
Hey
I did not know that . LOL.
Tarantino must be absolutely voracious when it comes to reading about and watching films. Amazing!
As far as JAWS rip-offs, I can make a case for KILLER FISH (1978), my favorite among that vibrant sub-genre.
Terrific cast, authentic late 70's coastal Brazilian locations, a tight, clever script with a variety of characters- both laconic and otherwise- that places the heist on equal level with the aquatic terror, intertwining that so the piranha aspect doesn't seem arbitrary or tacked on. I could go on about how much I enjoy the characters and their interactions, but let's just say that Lee Majors is in top-notch, laid-back Clint Eastwood/Bionic Man mode, Karen Black is a strong, smart female character who has her shit together and James Franciscus vividly portrays the cool, calculating villain who probably has a logical point in terms of his actions in the plot. Terrific musical score too.
And it was directed by Antonio Marghereti!
I would be quite surprised if Quentin doesn't like- or perhaps even love- this film.
I sure do!
His knowledge of movies is extrodinary
@@curiositytax9360 yes he does. This discussion was on specifically on obscure “ripoffs”.
My top 5 Tarantino rip offs-
1.Things to do in Denver when you're dead
2.Thursday
3.2 Days in the Valley
4.U Turn
5.Go
I saw the movie "Prophecy"several times in 1979. it was playing at the Long Beach drive-in theater. I was working there at that time as cashier.
that must’ve been a cool job
Cool times for you
Quentin mentions going to the del amo mall to watch movies, a place I visited frequently when in LA, I remember watching Jackie brown for the first time and instantly recognised the sears and the food court!
A great interview is usually disguised as a great conversation.
This is pure gold for me, amazing stuff guys! thank you :)
Enthralling conversation. Now I have to see "Targets".
I loved how Quentin replaced George Maharis with Rick Dalton as co star of Land Raiders opposite Telly Savalas in OUATIH, like he finally beat Maharis for a part.

This was so good
That’s a dope poster. The cedar lee theater is a Cleveland landmark
Pauline Kael was so all over the map with her reviews -- on one page she gives Fellini's "Juliet of the Spirits" one short paragraph "a woman lives out her fantasies in the leftover sets from old MGM musicals ". Very dismissive and blunt (for a brilliant movie that is). Then on the opposite page , a HUGE detailed review for the flop movie "Just Tell Me What You Want" (1980) . But she really is a fun read. She also has you looking up words in the dictionary . Serious brain candy .
Juliet is probably my top Fellini overall. I can’t think of any Fellini I disliked. I do sorta get the weird pit-down she’s making… maybe she thought the movie would have a slew of rave reviews form everyone else.
I mean… City Of Women is like the male version and I probably like that a little better. 🤷🏻
Fantastic! I subscribed.
Quentin is terrific. I've been fortunate to catch a few of his personal 35mm prints at Hollywood Theatre. Can't wait to go to New Beverly one day!
new Bev is awesome!
you gotta remember, too, when QT went to the movie theater growing up tickets were two or three dollars. Even less than that we he was a kid! It wasn't until the mid 80s when ticket prices shot up to 5 dollars! (I also spent my youth at the movies, but not at cool grindhouse double features, sadly).
Oh my gosh od this great interview isn't getting much views!
@Jack thanks very much for news ✌I love pure cinema podcasts!
52:00 I had a similar thing happen to me at my high school library. It was 1991 and they had a copy of 1985's Roger Ebert's Movie Home Companion. Once I looked inside to see if anyone had signed out the book in the last six years and I noticed no one ever had is when I chose to steal it! And I STILL have that book today and everytime I read a review from it, I think about the day I liberated it from its library prison. Good times.
As a retired librarian I can only read your comment with deep disappointment.
Good thing you stole it so now the only one who can enjoy it is a sad old man named Jason
“Library Prison”
Absolutely moronic oxymoron you got there
The infamous Bruce Li 😆
so many great stories in this one :)
This podcast is movie-geek porn! I love it!
Dredd (Ripped Off The Raid)
Great episode!
anyone know the name of the movie where the Schoolbus crashes in the snow (shot in Lake Arrowhead, CA) and there's a house with weird shit goin' on? I think QT mentioned it on one of these podcasts
58:46 did they cut him off in editing cuz it sounded like he was about to drop a bomb about criticism that these guys may have not liked.
Firus G I could see how you thought that but I don’t think that’s the case. Although the more you listen to it the more you slowly methodically convince yourself they did cut it lol.
Hack Fraud You can listen to it long enough to lose it 🤪
Thanks for sharing, this is cool. x
1:29:54, nobody take not. Just saving where I had it. I have a wierd phone lol
Great idea . I always write times on a scrap piece of paper and then proceed to lose the paper.
Quinton needs to get $100 and buy a good mic... Maybe $300

Guys how did you reach out to him?
Is it possible to send him script?
Tarantino doesn't do other people's scripts. Also, generally, directors etc. do not like it when they're send scripts by people they do not know and will not read them, for legal reasons. Scripts should be send to agents.
Weird that he's going on and on about Death Stalk ...... most people will be bored . The movie also does not have any atmosphere or mood. Targets is a great movie though !
Reservoir Dogs is my favorite rip-off
That trancers movie sounds like assassins creed
Nah, Assassin's Creed sounds like Trancers 😎
5. Equalizer 2000 - Mad Max rip-off
4. Firewalker- Indiana Jones rip-off
3. Hardware- Terminator rip-off
2. Star Crash - Star Wars rip-off
1. Inseminoid - Alien rip-off
Star Crash is hilarious .
