I am a Kenyan living in Uganda and "well done" is big deal and part of greetings, not just to the family, to everyone. You go to the shopkeeper, you say "well done for the work", when I am with my kids, I get told "well done for giving birth and taking care of them," and it feels nice to be acknowledged. When I was somebody's wife, back then before I put on my glasses because sipangwingwi. I used to be told "well done for taking care of our husband"😇. That is part of the greetings, and for that split second, I felt nice about being a wife.
A critical/negative spirit is often rooted in insecurities. Not to make any excuses or condone that behavior but only God knows the root of a critical persons issues and is the only one who can fix a person. He is our creator and is all-knowing. Commit this whole situation unto the Lord and ask God to change you and while you allow Him to, He will work on your mother. Ask Him to also help/show you how to forgive and release your mother into His able hands. He can work it out and do miracles, but you have to do your part😇
