When I gave birth to my first daughter I employed a domestic worker and she left after two months, I then employed a second one and she left after 5 months...I changed tact when I employed the 3rd one , I decided no more locking rooms, giving her an off day from Saturday afternoon and she comes back on Sunday evening, told her the house is not priority but the baby is. Lets just say I still have my 3rd domestic worker and this is 15 years later. I thank God.
I should really start watching these videos with a notebook and pen in my hands. The wisdom you ladies pour out is just undeniable. Thank you Kitt and Mama Apondi❤️
Nice content am a domestic staff I totally relate na kila kitu mumesema hapa I love my work as well as my boss&her family she's the best ever not only do i love her but i do pray for her&entire family
Let me share about one of my friend's. She pays her domestic worker 21k per month, and let's her run her house hold. Once the domestic worker insisted on changing the menu because she said the children were not enjoying the food. My friend was like, we shall discuss when I get back from work. When she came she found a new menu on the fridge and a shopping list. Long story short the kids ate their food better. I learnt from my late mother to be fair and never lock my store. We have cows and I hardly know where the milk goes as I and my children don't consume it, we take low fat milk. I pay my domestic employee 15k. When they are sick I cater for their hospital bills with no deductions from their salary. This is a wonderful segment I hope more people do right by them. My mother who was born in 1943 was made for her marital bed and her sheets were changed by the domestic worker, I on the other hand 🙆🏿♀️ I'm yet to get enlighten. I also believe in giving them sufficient paid leave for them to go bond with their kids, also in January I encourage her to stay on until she takes her kids to school and meet with their teachers. It's important to remember they are parents just as we are and need quality time with their children. As you rightfully stated this isn't anyone's dream job, it's their circumstances that has brought this situation about. Most of my late mum's former employees would keep contact with her and from time to time if where they went didn't work out, they would come back. Some prospered but that didn't stop them from calling her to chat from time to time. Like you Kitt I have learnt a lot from my mum. I have a very successful friend who complains about food in her house, it's a mind set, I don't have her kind of income and I find it so easy to stock my house with enough food. I don't have a menu and I also don't tell the what we are cooking unless I have a special request for the day. I buy the food stuff, she organises when to boil the beens, njahi etc, freezes and comes up with what we are eating. I also have learnt a lot from my employees especially when it comes to the different combinations of greens to cook.
It's so rare to get this advice from the older generation. They mostly give you advice that will stop you from becoming an ambassador 😅 I love this 👌👌👌 I will definitely share it with my friends. Love it!!!!
wow, 14years!!!!!!!! this how staff should be treated for them to give you loyalty......n I think even in general office space if you want your juniors to work well just respect them don't shout at people working for you and expect loyalty.
Thanks for smoking wisdom, I treasure my nanny because she makes me have peace while at work by taking care of the most precious human in my house. I can replay this over and over again.
AMAZING...Have had my help for 11 years now... she has literally raised my 3kids. now i know i what to do for her when time comes ... i looooove you and your mum
How many times can i say i love you and your awesome family . Story time : my mothers house helper told her that she was dismissed from a previous job because they found out she was HIV positive . She wanted my mother to know incase it bothered her plus once a month she has to go collect her medication. My mother isn't bothered by the HIV . No one should !!!
Wow...I would love this topic in a low income setting. Where nannies have to share rooms with children and some even at times sleeping in the sitting room on a mattress, boundaries because in small homes it is easy to feel suffocated...
Please keep Apondi under lock and key ama I will be stealing her! She is such a vibe! Is she auditioning for a small sis I will be first in line... absolutely a beautiful queen deep bow.
Very important discussion. I remember my mum allowing househelps to go to computer college or beauty college like twice a week at some point growing up and she used to not only treat them well but would also tell us that when we get housekeepers we should treat them well because it is the right thing to do (most importantly) and also because you can really upset someone and come home from work one day to find your baby in the freezer lol. So be careful and just treat people with respect because it is right (I cannot emphasize this enough) and you don't know their life story.
Your mom looks sooo much like Lupita Nyong'o... I must say I just recently found your channel, subscribed and I wish I could spread the the word .. great content.
Good topic. Everyone, Check out current casual wages. For Nairobi, cleaner is KES. 653.10 per day. Check per region and then obviously according to your own income...
Thank you for this. I now know how i should stay with my dm. And the part of cleaning the bedroom..i usually dont mind at all but my husband has issues with it. So i tell my dm to just time when hes out. Coz i love coming back home to a clean bedroom.😊
@@KittKiarieChannel in hotel it's impersonal, a domestic helper is more or less part of the family and my bed is a very private, sacred domain. I actually got this advice from a Tanzanian househelper who worked for my best friend. I was not married then but 12 years now in my marriage and my bed i either make it or hubby does, if am unwell.
@@aisharicci6400 oh I see. I don't consider my housekeeper part of my family. She is my employee. So we have a professional relationship, not familiar. Also, my darling, making your own bed is not what keeps your marriage alive 🙏🏽 my parents are happy and in love for over 35 years🤗
@@KittKiarieChannel don't get defensive, I am on this channel simply because i absolutely love how your folks see things and marriage and i have learnt from their wisdom. In fact in one of your video they described their bedroom a place of rest, a personal space, that is the same concept I apply. Neither of us is wrong or right, but we should be humble to look at another opinion without feeling threatened. We can all be learners and teachers at given times.
This episode triggers me in strange ways; I grew up in a household where the 'maid' was treated in dehumanizing and despicable ways. Every 'don't' you have shared was the norm in my world. It's truly a sad memory.
I love the content. My friend invited me over to sleep at her place and when it was time to sleep, she told her domestic worker that I was going to share her bed with her. I refused because it was the first time I was meeting the lady and it's her room among other reasons. And my friend has a big ass bed which she was sleeping in alone. I told her I was going to sleep on the couch. She opted to let me sleep on the bunk bed above where her kids sleep. Is it right to dictate who sleeps with your help? Is it even right to ask them to let someone sleep with them?
That's not a good friend and she doesn't respect you and her houshelp. I can never let my friends sleep over if I don't have a guest room. Be careful and wise while choosing your friends.
I always refuse to sleep with nanny In houses. After doing lots of work would prefer they rest n dont interfere with their comfort. Mostly I take the floor or coach. Am the visitor here n sojourner no need disrupt people's comfort.
I have learnt something...am returning my nanny ID asap!I only took it from her cz I was told that's the norm...but not anymore in my house. Thank you for this

Love the relationship between you and your mum.

So educative. Must share.
Kitt l love all your videos very mature gorl well raised and humble
Love that point on priorities..... really resonated with me as a momma of 3 littles❤
Your mama is wise. I don't get why I should lock my bedroom, bedroom? My baby is my most precious in that house, I mean🤦♀️.
You don't have to.You do it because you want.I do lock mine and I'm unapologetic about it because first I'm BIG on PRIVACY and I like it that way
I lock my bedroom because the domestic staff does not need it since I clean it myself. Nothing to do with it being precious than other things at home
Your mum is AWESOME. I'm loving your channel learning sooo much.
I really love this mum and you segments!!!
So much wisdom in here. I love it
I enjoyed it..... Village myths was hilarious
Wisdom dripping here, your mum's view is balanced, i like it
