In this essay, I discuss the various game play mechanics, and how those mechanics enhance the themes present in Elden Ring. This includes the spirit summons, cooperative multiplayer and how the new attack schemes in boss fights necessitate these mechanics.
There will be some spoilers for the Shadows of the Erdtree DLC.
Do note that I am biassed, both politically, spiritually and how I perceived the given media.

Maybe the real Elden Ring is the other players and summons I sacrificed along the way
I told a normal person at my job I was excited for elden rings dlc and she asked what Elden ring was and I was like…… how do you describe that which commanded the stars? That which gives life its fullest brilliance?

You know, the fact the basic endings already help others, like the duskborn makes those born in death accepted (essentially redeeming Godwyn), order fixes the initial problems with the golden order (like the constant war and hate which is found in radagon who refuses to change and wants things to return to normal, hence him trying to repair the ring), then the stars ending overhauls the broken order and presumably fixes things. Thus, there's no need for the age of compassion because like with the hornsent and the golden order, there's no way to have a perfect order because there will always be a cycle of hatred (hornsent killed Marika's people, she killed most of them, then the Hornsent tried to kill everyone to do with the erdtree after you help him kill Messmer) due to how people are, regardless of if someone ascends to godhood or not. That's why Miquella could only achieve his age of compassion by pulling a Makima and dominating all things into submission, because people are inherently flawed. But, in the end, what Ansbach says during the final fight (if he dies, I believe). we should try to create an age of men, not of gods. So, what you said about the community being what Elden Ring is about is correct. Even the strongest beings in existence, the gods, can't stand up against people when they unite. That's why the endings are prominently about people, not demigods (save for Ranni) and even the Frenzied Flame ending is brought about by the request of the Hyetta (or is supposed to be, if you do her quest proper). It's because the game is about the people and SO is the World! The Greater Will cast aside the ancient dragons and later the gods, but relied on the tarnished, the people in the end! It's about making a BETTER world through the PEOPLE, not the gods! And that's also why there isn't an ending for siding with Rykard, or Mohg, or Miquella, because they are things of the past and the tarnished are the inheritors of the future!
i am fully convinced by your comment here. ive been extremely pro miquella for the entire DLC, and Ive been wondering why he doesn't have an ending. but you are right. its not about gods, it's about the tarnished. its not a story about which powerful person is better than the other, it's about how the people can be free and live for themselves, without these higher influences and their petty squabbles making a mess of everything.
Marika guided us not the greater will. All the tarnished journey is Marika thing
In the end you could say that elden ring is about the nature of humanity and the many differnt yet similar generations of our inheritance we exist in a cycle of life, death, love, anger, pain, pleasure, suffering, and peace in some way or form we are hypocrites but we are also true to ourselves just as much war is apart of our being as much as cooperation is apart of us in my opinion elden ring is the best representation of what humanity truely is hopeless hypocrites who wish for better who fight for better despite our flaws it is not evil nor is it good it is just us

The bosses are actually more punishing you for playing passive in single player you should go for an attack even during a bosses combo so long as they have a massive whiff it also encourages trading damage with the bosses if you think you can get the better end of that trade which feels really odd coming out of dark souls where attacking a boss during an attack was almost a garunteed death or net loss

Elden ring is about a young girl from a shaman village who are an oppressed and persecuted people from another land by the hornsent,an ancient and native race who worship the crucible. One day an ancient alien life form that was cast down or sent by the greater will from long ago begins to psychically communicate with a young Marika, seducing her with a plot to slay the than ruling god. Afterwards she fled to the lands between, where our story begins.
That’s the plot yeah. But I still don’t know what it’s about themeaticaly. The lore is also patchy at best. Why were the shamans being made into jars? What did it mean their flesh can meld? How is this relevant to Marika?
@@umwha They were being put into jars because the numen lacked horns, so to the hornsent they were seen as broken or incomplete. This was the hornsents misguided attempt to " fix them"

What was Marika guiding us all along for ? What did she want all along? And why did others like miquella have a problem with it?

Demon's Souls... not Dark Souls... everybody gets the first game wrong
Its less about which game came first and more about what aspects Fromsoft took into other games. The mechanics of Demon's Souls, like levels instead of an interconnected world, healing herbs and the world tendency system.
