  • Muncie Mall, a sad struggling mall in eastward Indiana. If only Bob Ross were still around to paint some happiness back into this place.

I invested nearly 20 years of my life toiling away at Sears, Roebuck & Company from 1976-1994 before being promoted to Indianapolis, then to Chicago. I went back to this Mall about a month before Sears was to close to walk the aisles one last time. It brought tears to my eyes to see what it had become then. I've not been back to the Mall since. To see this video, I was struck to see that many stores still open, despite having no anchors. When I recall how swamped our store would be during the holidays, the 15 hour days I'd put in during the year, it's hard to imagine Sears is on life support and has left cities across the country. I was there when it was "Where America Shopped".

When I was in college at ball state in the 1990s. Nobody shopped at them all.
It was pretty much, although not to the same extent, the same as what shows in your video. The one store that I liked going to that was at that mall was Elder Beerman. We never even went to the movies at the mall. Because there was a discount dollar theater that was closer to campus and much newer.

I do like how this mall has stores with overlapping themes near each other (maybe by accident?) such as FYE and B&N, and Finishline and Squeeze Play.

This mall was just sold to Hull Property Group today. I said Oh great! More Carpet, Dry Wall, and ugly lamps... Just what we need!

Man this mall has quite the history. Good thing it's in Woodmont's hands right now, maybe they can keep the mall afloat for at least a little longer. This mall would be done for if Kohan or Damndar got a hold of it.

I lived in Muncie for about 2 yrs when my mom was doing her PhD at Ball State. Been to the mall maybe couple times. That was almost 30 yrs ago and I was barely speaking any English. such nostalgia vibe

This mall is stuck in limbo, it’s definitely struggling and soon to be on its way out.I’m surprised they still have a MCL Cafeteria, the food was pretty good. Also interesting how the Foot Locker reopened up. When I visited in June 2022 it was closed.

I used up quite a few of my products from Bath&Body Works. My Georgia Peach& Sweet Tea Body Wash is done, as well as a Strawberry Pound Cake liquid hand soap. I also finished my Pumpkin Cupcake foaming hand soap (really enjoyed that one) and last but not least, I finished up my 2 full size 226g of body cream. One Country Apple and one Grapefruit Frose. The body creams are the hardest to go through. It takes an eon. LOL!

OK this is my Maximov story. I remember back in third grade we had to write a paper on what it meant to have the Muncie Mall opening up when it was brand new. And when it was brand new, and it opened up, there was a slaughterhouse nearby called Marhofer‘s, and the smell was horrendously bad.

Yes there used to be a nice big fountain in front of Britt's/LS Ayres. I think they took it out maybe late 80s early 90s. Was a mistake to take it out in my opinion. Grew up in Muncie this used to be a very busy mall. Spent many weekends there. Online shopping is was has killed the Malls. Hopefully it will get a new lease on life.

You always wonder how many of the stores left are running out their lease and then flee. Is there a mall that doesn't have the leather lounge chairs and the gum ball machines. And also a few coke and Pepsi machines scattered about. I wish them luck, and thanks again as we see shopping history going by the wayside. As a side not, I drove by the local Amazon fulfillment center this am as an impressive parade of Amazon trucks were leaving for their rounds. There must of be at least 20 or so all heading out to who knows where. I love your videos Doomie, even if the subject is a downer.

Ball Stores? Once Indianapolis' Bob and Tom had a bit they did about "The All-Ball Store" (from the BALtic sea to BALtimore!). I had no idea that was maybe a gag on a REAL Muncie-based business. Thanks Doomie!

I visited this mall a lot in the early to mid 2000s and it was lit much better back then, store fronts were heavily let and I could swear it had a lot more RGB or Neon around for lighting in general. I'm guessing all of that was removed in a modernization attempt, honestly the light was what still stands out in my mind from the time.

Penny's quit the plain pocket jeans, not much else in there for me after that. Sears went under. No more craftsman tools. 2 Walmarts, Meijer, Rural King, Lowe's, Menards, Harbor freight, Kohl's and Target. Overbuilt for a dieing little has been town. And online sales taking some of what little is left. Donati sure blew through the cash when he got the chance. Politicians should be held accountable and have more than an election at stake.

I love the entrance of this mall. So pretty. The inside is way too plain for me. I'm surprised to see this mall this empty because it is in Indiana. Isn't it a poor state so by that logic you would see more malls in that state being jam packed? I promise I'm not trying to hate or anything.

I’m a Muncie resident and I can say with full confidence that Muncie residents are hardly well to do enough for this place. The most a lot of us can afford is a bracelet from Hot Topic and a book from Books-A-Million (and that’s if you still had any left over cash). The best thing to ever happen to this place is a Buyer’s Market that will probably bide some time for this place but, considering the recession that resulted from the pandemic, people becoming disabled because of said pandemic and covid and/or online stores becoming a more accessible option while families start doing 2-3 jobs to make ends meet, I don’t have much hope for this place in the next decade. But I do have hope that one day it will one day be full of stores again like it did before the pandemic.
