I just tried this training for the first time: as soon as Jack understood all he had to do was boop into the palm of the hand I was presenting him, he had that sparkle in his eyes, his tail went up and wagged all excited, and he would boop his snout like a kid pushing a JACKPOT button.
I couldn't hold myself but to laugh while training it

I work as a bike mechanic, and a colleague of mine has a lil jack russel puppy who he lets freeroam between all the bikes.
Ive been using some hand targets with his meals, and some hotzone training to get him a little more managed, your methods have truly worked wonders already! If i call 'jacky, Touch!' , he comes running across the hub :D much more productive than jabbing at peoples legs, peeing between bikes, and barking at random people.
I've also been working on 'search' 'itsyerchoise' 'break' and a little bit of shaping for some basic positions like sit and down. Thanks susan, for helping an aspiring dog trainer!

Thank you! This is so fun. I started practicing, not with a chair dog, but with the invisible dog in the kitchen. Mocha saw me and came to see what I was doing and touched the spoon. Since I was holding the clicker I clicked and rewarded and she immediately got it! That fast!
I’m interested in learning how to transfer this understanding to other targets. I have a click stick on order. I guess I just start over when it gets here and since she’s learning with the spoon in the meantime she’ll more quickly (if possible) grasp it with the new stick?

It never occurred to me to write out the steps or rehearse it. It’s really nice to see you actually doing it with an untrained dog and see you deal with some of the things we may be dealing with.

I found the leash discussion portion near the end very interesting. My pup's 5 months, just like this one, but I can NEVER let her off the leash in the house, not for a moment. She's immediately more interested in exploring, sniffing, finding things to chew or eat, than she is in paying attention to me, no matter the treats. I wish I could.

How do you keep your other dog so calm to be in the room with you while training the puppy. Hi there, I've watched both parts and like everyone else, love the lesson planning. My boy is pretty good (no expert that's for sure) at It's Yer Choice and Crate Games and picked up the target spoon super quickly too. But he is nowhere near as calm and deliberate as Momentum is in Part 2. My Banjo is like a bull in a china shop!
He will still pay attention to me. To try and reset him I ask him to go to his mat and he willingly does this but then fidgets and tries every trick to get his treat. Everything is in fast motion. So I stop the Target training and finish it with something easy that he will succeed at. But he loves any sort of training and is so excited to please.
How do I slow him down?
