  • Opening weekend at the Valley Railroad found all three operating steam engines pulling the sold out trains. This collection follows the 2-8-2 #,40 which pulled a matching set of 1940's passenger cars on the 90 minute train rides. See daytime and nighttime shots of the steam trains, passing each other!
#40 was built by Alco in 1920, and was built for the Portland, Astoria, and Pacific as #101. This engine saw use on the Southern Pacific before being bought on the Aberdeen and Rockfish Railroad. The Valley Railroad purchased the engine in 1977.
The steam engine is one of three current operating steam engines at Essex Connecticut.
