I recently read that the idea of needing hobbies comes from our culture's glorification of productivity. Other cultures, like the French, glorify the art of doing nothing. The point of downtime is to relax and reset, so I say do whatever you need to get there. If that looks like training for a marathon, awesome. If that looks like wine and watching vlogs, awesome too.
i definitely relate on blending your identities idea you talked about. i think some of it for myself at least has stemmed from idk if it’s insecurity or worried about what people would think but I’d think things like oh my coworkers don’t wanna see the super outgoing side of me that comes out when I’m with my friends but it’s like why not! i’ve started to realize that it’s okay to let my personality show in each “segment” of my life more so than i would’ve before.
Loved this vlog especially your goals and chat about balance. That’s something I struggle with a lot, so it was very good to hear that other people are managing this as well!
im just chilling doing my nails, and listening to you talk about your goals is so soothing and was able to put me in a better state of mind. keep making vids; you just earned yourself a new subscriber :)
Yay another vlog! You always inspire me to be productive and I thoroughly enjoy listening to you articulate your thoughts about specific aspects of your day. It’s so real and I think our overall mindsets are very similar. Your content makes me feel more understood, which is such a good feeling. Happy new year from a fellow 20something in Chicago!
Thanks for voicing your thoughts on having time to breath. I feel the same: work full time, while do freelancing projects and tutoring for college students on the side. It’s a lot and I ask myself at times why I take on so many things; however, keeping my long term goals in mind of why I’m working so hard does help. I feel like having a specific goal and timeline in mind helps to make your hard work feel more meaningful even when it seems unmanageable.
I also have a very consuming side hussle that takes my evenings and weekends after my full-time, the burn out can get really awful sometimes. The only answer I have is that I take time off periodically and relax really hard when I do until I recover, whether I go on an actual vacation or just relax at home for a few days or so. Work hard, play hard.
Hi Amy! New sub here like just a few seconds ago lol. Your balance talk made me reflect on how I "balance" being a graduate student/instructor/part-time employee. Something that really helped me was time batching or make each day a designated focus day. Meaning, some days are strictly for grading or student related tasks. However, I was really bad at givinging me self "me-time" because I poured myself into the other facets of my life. I am trying to add more balance into my life by adding in self care as a task that I get to do every day. I think what helps in scheduling that time to breath and have a moment when you aren't think about the seemingly millions of task you feel like you need to that day. Pro tip: not being on your phone first thing in the am helps me feel like I am having a slower morning and not over stimulated by the blue light. I am unsure of how you could apply it to your daily life depending on your upload schedule and your 9-5 schedule (probs. bc i am new here). You know your schedule and what would work best for you. You could also add in no technology days twice a month to disconnect and be with friends/family. Because your social media job is focused on being online, it might be nice be peace out from the world. Anyway, 20 years later, love the content. Looking forward to seeing you flourish in 2022!
was so happy to hear you say you're feeling physically stronger, i'm really trying to work on that. so inspiring + I completely get when you said its so hard to balance but you are doing so well xox love and appreciate your vlogs so much
Missed these long types of Vlogs and I can relate with being someone that rants on the screen for too long, but I welcome it deeply! I also want to tell you that you're doing so good despite feeling like you have your life in "segments" because sometimes, that's just how you work and sometimes it doesn't have to be a bad thing, it can be something you can work on but not completely have to scrap from your mindset. Also, taking breaks and resting is absolutely VALID! Hope you have enough rest and stay safe! Love your videos. Been watching for so long and am starting to get inspired to start my own little channel!
Balance is all about time management and to do lists. Schedule it in and write what you want to film possibly on a big calendar or monthly planner. Days and subject matter. Kind of like a movie storyboard. You got this! And if you need a mental health or a day or grounding do it.
girlllll, i 100% feel you when you said how do people do other things or hobbies with a 9-5. because I do youtube & my 9-5 and still feel like i’m holding on by a thread LOL
I always look forward to your videos. When you said, absolutely trash and you can’t wait until next Thursday I was laughing so hard!!! I loved all your outfits this week. The shirt is a keeper and the next day outfit with the beanie was so cute!!! In your opening montage I was like she’s a boss with her sneakers on walking to work in the snow. And the tacos looked so delicious. Take care. ❤️
Good morning I loved your vlogs and your editing is sooo good happy new year to you and your loved ones and I hope that 2022 brings you a lot of love and happiness
Some other quotes I like to keep around if you’re still looking for some others that are a little more positive, haha: -Embrace effort, let go of outcome -Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aide
Finally, someone said out loud what I keep wondering... I also work from 9 to 5 and I have so much that I would like to do after work but in the evening or I have no strength or energy .. How do others achieve this?
Brave of you going out last Monday! I worked from home that day so I didn't have my normal commute into Georgetown thankfully! I avoided the snow mostly.
Once you let go of the ideological shackles that this capitalist society tries to impose on us, your entire perspective changes. We don’t have to be productivity machines, rest and/or enjoying yourself is NEVER wasted time. The never ending hustle culture is a sham that will always lead to burnout. At the end of the day, as long as you are financially taken care of, the addition of hobbies and activities that fulfill you and bring you comfort will bring a world of change to your life. It’s better to realize this at a young age (now) than in the future :)
Justice for Steve for real! Although, I find myself hating the episodes less and less with each one. What *I* don’t hear being questioned enough is why does Carrie still have a fully furnished apartment (with a closet full of clothes)???
Great vlog, jw have you considered going part time 3/4 days at your job or doing a 9-3 to give you some balance back. Apartment is looking much better and sorted now too!
yes for sure! i think im still about a year or so away from being able to sustainably do that at my current company but definitely something ive thought about a lot
Water gives you energy 😊 Coffee drains you. It could be why you are saying you get exhausted easily and dont have energy to do much. Also, once you train your body to do more, it gets use to it. ❤
Everything you spoke upon in this video are things that a therapist can help you navigate IMHO. What people also don’t talk about enough is that working on your health can also be a full time job. “You can have it all it’s just really f*cking hard.”-SATC
There's no time for hobbies when working more than one job. Working 40 hours a week + the side job + needing to sleep, eat, workout, etc leaves very little time for a hobby. Maybe you could try to find time for hobbies that don't take up that much time like houseplants? I saw that you have a few. I love finding new, local businesses in DC and supporting them. I think it could be cool to see those on your channel. :) We all love watching your videos but if you need to spend less time with the UA-cam part of your life I think that's ok too. :)
Seriously, how do you manage to hold a coffee, a sandwich and your phone, film beautiful footage and open doors at the same time?
LMAO

Wine and watching vlogs? Damn I ought to have been French then 🤣
this is a really good perspective!!!
Love this. So much.
Amy is continuing to be THE most relatable UA-camr out there ❤️❤️
love u
your work week vlogs are seriously my fav!
ahhh thank you so much

“You are not better than anyone,
and nobody is better than you
Having your arm up in the beginning of the vlog is hilarious 😂
Being productive is great, but I’m more of a relax after work and do nothing 🤙🏼☺️
Amy's vlogs make me feel like my struggles are normal and my worries about 'not being/doing enough' are typical 20's things. Love her realness!!
Such beautiful snow!!!
Loved this vlog especially your goals and chat about balance. That’s something I struggle with a lot, so it was very good to hear that other people are managing this as well!
ugh i agree i love steve! i need more steve content. I wish they hadn’t let Miranda cheat on him but rather tell Steve how she’s feeling🥺
I’m glad Samantha’s character wasn’t ruined !
justice for our girl Samantha too
@@amyrauch I agree! The diss they did to Sam! Ugh
I just love your vlogs so much. Super relatable!
The impossible breakfast sandwich from Starbucks is hands down the best meat-alternative I've ever had lol
i like it better than their meat options, its SO good
im just chilling doing my nails, and listening to you talk about your goals is so soothing and was able to put me in a better state of mind. keep making vids; you just earned yourself a new subscriber :)
being a Maine gal snow is so common in my day to to and not so much on the UA-camrs I watch, so funny to see that

This is specific but could you do a video on how you organize your photos/videos ?!
Hi Amy, what should would you recommend for the DC winter? Also looking forward to the next meet and greet!
was so happy to hear you say you're feeling physically stronger, i'm really trying to work on that. so inspiring + I completely get when you said its so hard to balance but you are doing so well xox love and appreciate your vlogs so much

IT LOOKS LIKE WINTER WONDERLAND!!!! i love snow when it just first lands on the ground but once everyone has walked on it, its kinda gross ngl
Yes chopping veggies is super satisfying haha!
I think every single day about how working full time is the worst thing ever like how do i live a life outside of that

I have never related to a video more. I have. 9-5 and I am a content creator. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL 😩
I loathe chopping vegetables LOL honestly not a huge fan of cooking in general which is funny bc I’m a Nutrition grad student. 😂
Poor Steve!!!
