I think you might be confused? This is considered the hip hop version. The Verve version is a pure rock song.

This one is the acoustic version of the retake.
Actually the Bitter Sweet melody was also only just covered by the Verve.
It is originally the orchestral version of the Rolling Stones song "The last time" released by the producer of the Rolling Stones at this point in time Andrew Oldham who released an Orchestra album in 1966 titeled "The Rolling Stones song book" and one of those Rolling Stones songs on that instrumental orchestra versions album was this one and the Verve covered that instrumental version 1:1 for their song ...
