No problem with that here. Haven’t desired, needed or used AM in decades. All I use is FM for local, XM for road trips and cell phones for all emergency notifications.
However, cell phone signals are highly directional, even with the 600 and 700 MHz bands. AM radio can travel a long way, especially at night. That's why you want to have AM radio if you're listening to news and sports.
This another good example of how ignorant our media & government is. 1st of all you can get a radio app for smartphone then Bluetooth to radio. 2nd, new car radios aren't separate units, so if they fail it could interfere with the main computer through internal electrical short. 3rd, they're elegidly suppose to interfere with other stuff. 4th, it affects less than 1% of the population.
Some have been shut down due to bad ratings. FM transmitters are purchased and the AM transmitters are taken offline forever. Just ask KDWN 720 in Vegas. 50k watts and they reduced power then sold the site for $40 million dollars
Exactly. And if I manufacture cars, I can put in them whatever I want. If you don't like it, don't buy it! But seriously, AM radio has bit the dust. Their operations are funded by advertising revenue. Advertisers want the biggest bang for their buck and the AM audience is just too small.
I called BS on that head engineer. I can guarantee you many customers said many things other than just simply the fact that we won’t have emergency broadcast radio anymore.
AM has a strong signal but sounds terrible, always has, it was all we had in the 50's, Then came the sound of FM and FM stereo. Haven't tuned into an AM station since, and why would anyone want to?
AM radio is essential to keeping rural areas notified of natural storms and disasters. If we can put a man in space, why can't we find a way to limit the interference of the AM waves with these electric cars?
wow i really thought AM was ended already. AM or Ampltuide modulation is like a low quality but easier to tune to then FM. American need to go way of british with DAB HD Radio and allow EMTs to get digital network via 5g and 4g
I listen to AM all the time - can’t understand why they would pull it since it costs them virtually NOTHING to include it on today’s electronically-tuned radios!
That isn't true. None of the front end ( the part that tunes and changes RF, radio frequency , into audio ) is the same between AM and FM. The other issue is, electric cars have lots of RF noise that interferes with the AM signal.
AM here here is so bad & noisy & in the last 2 years 5 stations went off the air. My new 2023 vehicle not have AM radio in it. FM is expanding from 82.1 to 107.9 MHz soon as I am hearing. The FCC needs to allow DAB+ radio in the US like many countries have & also get rid of HD Radio as many rural areas not even have it as costs to high. Many new vehicles & home stereos not even come with HD Radio. Amazon & Walmart do not sell HD Radios anymore unless its used or old stock which is strange. SiriusXM Satellite Radio should offer free stations with commercials as its in most vehicles today but not worth paying for as quality isn't that great. Downfall is they do not offer service in Alaska & Hawaii as no signal there & only online streaming you can get.
1470 wow that is a lot of changes yeah it is not good yeah it is none essential they just need to get rid of it I really don't know many people who listen to an anymore
It WAS magic 60+ years ago in my childhood. I can clearly remember my first transistor radio. My first car in the early 70's only had AM radio. It was great if you were driving at night but slim pickin's during the day. AMEN to AM! Rest in peace . . . advertisers political commentators have found a better way!
I absolutely love listening to the radio when I'm in the car. K-Love is my favorite station. The only worthwhile gospel station in my are is an AM radio station. It would be a shame to take it away.

These idiotic a.m. radio personalities are a destructive force in America, and the country would greatly benefit from their demise by whatever means
Wow I thought AM was dead. I haven't used a radio since I was a kid 😂 I guess I'm the only one 😅
I have UA-cam music premium playing through the car, phone, and home

I haven't listened to an AM station in over 10 years. But it shouldn't be a problem to keep it since people use it and it doesn't cost much to keep
Around $100 per car in added cost because with EVs and some hybrids, it has to be specially shielded.
But here is thing who is anyone to decide that this is what customers want you let the customers decide.

Senator Markey: Elon Musk can't figure out squat.
Same people that complain of old light bulbs on social media on brand new cellphones

Bluetooth is better, I can load my own songs on an sd card of my phone, AD-free listening. I hate announcers too
THEY CAN PUT AM RADIO ON INTERNET STREAMING SO NO NEED TO WORRY

And now the magic of local am radio.

Joe Biden did this! FJB
Biden is the president of the United States. He does not manufacture electric automobiles.
Try to buy a crystal radio set.
