I was a little girl and maureen was like my own mom. My mom was a fan of Maureen as well. I remember I did have sympathy for lilian as well. I felt for both of them. I was a huge fan of beth and Lujack so that gave me a sort of closeness to the character of Lillian. (Also I remember always thinking she was like a beautiful barbie, even though everyone was always focused on beth it seemed.) But man... maureen. I cant even put into words. I feel like if Helen put her hand over mine it would be just like of my own (late) mother did. :'( sorry yeah that was an emotional thought.
I came to GL in 2000. I remember when I first watched the Maureen death and it was awesome!! And suddenly I realized as much as I loved GL.... Maureen was missed
This is so awesome. Thank you for these reunions with the actors from the show. I really miss watching The Guiding Light. They should have never killed Maureen off of the show.
Well rachel it (you taking the job very seriously) shows because you were very good! I'm always amazed when I see clips I'm like that little girl can really act!!!
What about a Spaulding family reunion? The first two Alan-Michael, Philip and Alan. That would be good! Too bad both Alexandras have passed on. The two greats, Bev McKinsey and Marj Dusay!
Maureen should have been the next Bert, the new Bauer matriarch. Guiding Light had the greatest friendships and they were just as much fun to watch as the romance and drama. Ross/Ed, Maureen/Vanessa, Maureen/Fletcher, Rick/Phillip,... It was awesome at family relationships too, especially the complexities of sibling relationships. It still doesn’t feel like the 4th without watching the Bauer BBQ.
@@frankieseward8667 I didn’t really forget, was just naming a handful; but you are right. I probably should have highlighted that one because of its uniqueness. I loved that one. Maureen was one of the few that Roger allowed to see his vulnerable side.
Thank you to Alan and the ladies. When they killed the heart of the show, the ratings started their downward trend. I would love for you to talk to JPF, Ellen Wheeler or other producers. OLTL and AMC fans would love an interview with Brian Frons.
So nice to see Maeve and Tina again, as they were in previous reunions with Alan. And it was cool seeing Ellen and Rachel for the first time. Only thing missing though was Peter Simon. Maybe Alan is waiting to have Peter on with the other actors who played Ed. That would be epic. Robert Gentry, Mart Hulswit, Richard Van Fleet, and Peter Simon. 🤔🤔
Erik Parker True GL fan since I was 13. Started watching in the summer of 1977. Watched it until they started filming on location. It just didn't seem like GL to me anymore. 😔😔
@@der22672 I've seen episodes with Mark Hulswit as Ed and Lenore Kasdorf as Rita - it's such a compelling story. I mean the shows in the 70's, all of them, were such compelling human psyche on display. I feel when Rachel Miner, who is wise beyond her years talked about how the trends began to change, the perfect production model, where heart to hearts took an aside to what I would classify as overt sexuality and a bunch of bitch slapping, she hit the nail on the head. Of course she had a real great teacher in her father the late Peter Miner.
Erik Andrus I couldn't agree more Erik. GL was just another animal in the late '70s to the early to mid '80s. Not just Ed and Rita, but so many wonderful complex characters from those years. But then came the transition and so many of those wonderful characters were let go so basically more Lewis's could move to Springfield. It took me several years but I slowly started to like the Lewis clan. Josh and Trish were already on.
The producers are fools at times because they dont really respect the actors, to them they just replaceable and the fans dont matter, but to the fans their family and friends and should be treated with more respect. The fans loved Maureen and that shouldn't have went down like that producers!!!!! Glad to know what really happen.
Why didn’t they send Maureen to Fletcher instead of killing her off. Ed was a weak and pathetic character. The writers completely gave him a get out of jail card. No one blamed him for the affair and Maureens death.
The show eventually collapsed under bad decisions, political correctness, poor writing, and lack of vision. OMG thanks Allen I remember this story line I was so bumped when the killed Maureen. I was in 4th grade and turned the TV on ASAP when I got home to see what happed after the accident. Ellen is a great actress I would love to see her on another show. She would be great in Handmaiden tales.
Interesting story about Guiding light & my life. I remember GL from my earliest days. Seemed like every lady in my family watched the stories. My sister started watching them at an early age. Oddly enough I hated them back when I was around ten years old. My sister & I would fight over the television till she would call mom at work. Mom would let my sister have it till GL went off then I could have it. So I kinda had to watch even though I didn't really want to. One day my sister wasn't home & I had the TV at an earlier time than I was used to having it. I found myself sneaking & watching GL on my own. Hell, I wanted to see what was going to happen next & had became adducted. Once it sunk into my own head that I too enjoyed the show then my whole world changed. I remember getting nervous that someone would learn of me watching it, or fear what I would tell people once the cat was out of the bag, lol. I'm very proud these days to tell everyone how I loved the show & how I became such a fan. When the show came to an end it broke my heart & I still miss it dearly. I had grown up with all of you & you felt like a part of my family. Life wasn't so lonely with GL in my life. I really loved everyone & I still do. There isn't much in my life that I wouldn't trade to get GL back in my life the way it was back then with all of you. I hope that each of your lives are going good & filled with loved ones that keep you all happy. I wish that there was a place where folks like me who grew up loving the show could go & watch all of the episodes in high quality. I miss you all & hope to see you on here again sometime soon.
Wow, Jenna. Thanks so much for sharing this with me. This show means so much to so many. It's helped so many of us fans during difficult times. Thanks for watching The Locher Room.
Alan, can you or anyone post a link to the clip of Maureen and Vanessa's drunken evening in? I can't find it. Thank you for this conversation. Loves these ladies.
The real reason Ellen Parker was let go was because they wanted to free up the budget for Justin Deas to join the show (who was demanding a big payday). That says it all about where soaps went wrong... producers like Jill Farren Phelps valued the male contribution so much more than the women who are the true essence of this genre. Men dominated primetime and daytime soaps were the only place for women to be three dimensional characters, but Jill Farren Phelps wanted to destroy that. It's not my place to say if she hates her own sex, but she is the most hated soap producer of all time for a very good reason.
Personally, I hated Buzz's character and didnt care about the storyline. They never gave Peter Simon or Ellen Parker anything meaty until they decided to kill off Maureen which was too bad.
How about Quint and Nola? or Alan Michael / Frank/ Eleni reunion? I also blame the so-called "reality TV" as the trigger to the shows demise. Back then people seem to want smut more than substance.
I could not agree more for that time about killing Maureen. And doing it based off of marketing polls. But was the most disgusting was having Ed sleep with Lillian first. Then killing Maureen which ruined the opportunity to do a Ed Lilian pairing. And was just so out of charecter for Peter Simon's version of Ed. And Tina Sloanes version of Lillian. And that's why fans still after all these years are still pissed the same way another world fans are still pissed about the the John Hudson cheating on Charlene with Felicia. As that was as the great Doug m outlined in his 1986 interview on how not to ruin a soap doing but the charecter would never do that thing. And was very shock opera like vs just focusing on good storytelling.. So I will use an analogy of how a dialog would have taken place between Doug m and Jill faren Phelps had he been a creative consultant at that time and Jhp. Mentioned to him that she wanted to off Maureen based off of marketing demographics. The conversation probably woukd have went something like when I was headwriter here back in 1981. And was writing Nola Reardon as a really bad girl, and was getting loads of hate mail I very quickly wrote a dialog having Lisa brown in charecter explain her reasons for her bad behavior and how she went from getting hate Mail to loads of sympathy. While telling her you need to give me 3 to 6 months to figure out how to write a really great story for Maureen that is done corectly. While lecturing you can't rely on those polls as they are not always accurate. But if after I write the story and it's not working then I will figure out a way to kill the charecter off properly. But if jhp did not listen she would have found out what happened if you tried to cross Doug m. As nice and generous as he was if you were stubborn and tried to cross him it was not a pleasant experience. With all that bieng said in today's context and a reimagining of guiding light I think Maureen could still be dead, but alter the history To reflect that Ed never cheated on Maureen but Maureen was killed by a drunk driver and Ed fell off the wagon acted out and Lilian helped put Ed back together again which would be a Doug m type way to get rid of a charecter but only when needed. Which would allow an Ed and Lilian pairing and be more true to who the characters were. And Allen that I think would take the stench out of that stupid awful Jim Reilly like storyline. With Ed cheating on Maureen. As as vocal as we are soap fans also can be forgiving too. And I do appreciate that jhp on that decision regrets that. And as much as I am beating her up. It is with the intent to get her to realize when you are taking it to far. As I think she would be a great executive producer for a redone guiding light. And I do think she would listen more now. As I believe in redemption also. And if that were to happen I would be happy to help. As a creative consultant that's why I have spent the last 6 months working my way through the p and g shows. For which I am still doing. Because frankly I am sick of all the garbage I am seeing. On TV and all the hate and hyper partizen politics and the stop woke garbage going on today. And maybe it's time we start going back to the old way. Like for example how about while maybe not gay chatecters in the main family do a storyline that addresses things like a classmate who might like to dress in girls clothes or a girl that may prepubacan like dressing like a boy but do it tastefully. Or even addressing things like trying to censor books or teachings that are relevant. But done like Doug m or Agnes Nixon would tell it. Or addresses bigotry or hemophobia. That's why your podcasts are important and great because it helps disinfect with sunlight.
I would love to see a reunion of The Secret Storm cast as well--Stephanie Braxton who played Laurie Stevens Reddin and other residents of Woodbridge would be such a tremendous joy to see. The Secret Storm was my absolute favorite soap of all time!!! I still mourn the loss of it to this day.

I also remember the line when Maureen said “God Ed how could you let this happen? You have broken my heart.

Thanks for such an uplifting time!
So great to see everyone. I feel like I just went back in time 🤩🤩
Again, we praise you Alan and your work in these reunions in these dark days. We are forever grateful. Please keep them up!
Much appreciated, Brian!
Mr. Locher, this was just amazing. Thank you so much for bringing this to us. So grateful.
Glad you thought so and so happy you tuned in.
Wow A 6 month role turned into 26 years thats impressive
😍
I came to GL in 2000. I remember when I first watched the Maureen death and it was awesome!! And suddenly I realized as much as I loved GL.... Maureen was missed
Were you on the show
Guiding Light was a family show. As a new viewer coming in 2000 I can admit watching the old 80's and 90's that family feel was not the same.
I wish the writers had given Ed and Maureen a miracle kid.
Awe thank you again Alan for another amazing group I'm just sad wanted to say I'm really glad to have seen Rachel and the other gorgeous ladies 😊💜💜
Glad you enjoyed it
LOVE these actors and characters!!
That is a nasty thing to do to Rachel, she was just a kid. At least notify her.
OMG, it's wonderful to see you all, gorgeous and especially my favorite Mauve!!!!! #Vanessa
Such lovely ladies! All of them! My cold dead heart has been warmed 😂
Ellen Parker was wonderful as Ethel Kennedy in the movie Kennedy.
This is so awesome. Thank you for these reunions with the actors from the show. I really miss watching The Guiding Light. They should have never killed Maureen off of the show.
You are very welcome. Thanks for tuning in.
That was a real treat. Thank you.
I am seriously crying. I missed her like family.
Well rachel it (you taking the job very seriously) shows because you were very good! I'm always amazed when I see clips I'm like that little girl can really act!!!
JFP strikes again, killing daytime one show at a time. Killing Maureen was on the nail to the show's decline in ratings.
The way she did it was so cold
She was such a damn coward, had to do it over the phone. 😒
What about a Spaulding family reunion? The first two Alan-Michael, Philip and Alan. That would be good! Too bad both Alexandras have passed on. The two greats, Bev McKinsey and Marj Dusay!
He did one with Alan Michael and Lucy a few weeks ago. Check his page.
Another excellent reunion! I’d love one with Bryan Buffinton, Rachel Miner and Greg Burke - to hear them reminisce about their childhood on the set.
Bryan did a great Billy Jr., as a kid.
@@ilahildasissac1943 He's technically H.B. III. Billy is what the stands for in H.B.
If Phelps had kept her on, the show would've been last longer than it did.
Also you forgot Maureen/Roger.
@@frankieseward8667 I didn’t really forget, was just naming a handful; but you are right. I probably should have highlighted that one because of its uniqueness. I loved that one. Maureen was one of the few that Roger allowed to see his vulnerable side.
My mom and I lament the cancellation of GL AND ATWT! BRING THEM BACK!
Thank you to Alan and the ladies. When they killed the heart of the show, the ratings started their downward trend. I would love for you to talk to JPF, Ellen Wheeler or other producers. OLTL and AMC fans would love an interview with Brian Frons.
You're so welcome, Laura.
Wonderful idea 👍👍
The true GL fans would absolutely love to see that reunion
This was so awesome loved it ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Another great interview. Thank you, Alan.
Thanks for watching.
Rachel Miner was married to actor Macaulay Culkin.
They were only teens when they got married.
The producers are fools at times because they dont really respect the actors, to them they just replaceable and the fans dont matter, but to the fans their family and friends and should be treated with more respect. The fans loved Maureen and that shouldn't have went down like that producers!!!!! Glad to know what really happen.
Fans probably felt that way about Alan too, when he died.
Why didn’t they send Maureen to Fletcher instead of killing her off. Ed was a weak and pathetic character. The writers completely gave him a get out of jail card. No one blamed him for the affair and Maureens death.
Bert...Holly...Rita... Elizabeth and Jackie... those were the grande dames of Guiding Light...imo...
Hi Allen …would love to see an episode with Ed and Maureen and would love to see a Dallas reunion thanks
A Dallas reunion would be incredible. Great idea.
@@TheLocherRoom thanks
Great reunion! I always loved Maeve and Tina.
Thank you Alan! You know I loved Ellen Parker!
Oh man! I just said the other day I hope you'll do young Michele and young bill and heres rachel miner and I missed the live!!!
We will do Rachel and Bryan in October I think. Stay tuned.
The show eventually collapsed under bad decisions, political correctness, poor writing, and lack of vision. Soaps are a family tradition, relatable, informative, an invitation to holidays, romance, grief, births, disasters, escape, deaths, heartbreak, healing, and forgiveness, living vicariously through characters you grew to hate and love. You are ALL MISSED Everyday!
Great GL zoom gathering!
Fabulous group! Thanks again, Alan!
My pleasure!
Thank you Alan. Great show!
My pleasure!
It was a great storyline but writing the character out of the show....they should have put her in a coma or something and brought her back later
Yes! Exactly.
Comas are such a soap opera cliche, better to send her out of town with Michelle.
GOD BLESS YOU THIS WAS MY BEST 1 HOUR OF THE WEEK! LADIES IT WAS A PRIVILEGE TO BE A FAN OF ALL OF YOU ESPECIALLY MAUREEN TILL TODAY I STILL CRY WHEN I WATCH THE ENTIRE COVERAGE OF MAUREEN'S DEATH I FELT LIKE SHE WAS FAMILY I'M A LOYAL FAN OF GL SINCE 1978 & FOREVER NOW I'D LIKE TO GO PULL UP 1993 GL HERE ON UA-cam & GET A GOOD CRY LOL LOVE TO ALL THE LADIES BFN ALAN💗💗💗💗🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Thanks, Vicki! Glad you enjoyed the show.
Also shout out to Rachel for her work on Supernatural! Megstiel 4ever!!♥️
How about doing some more streams with All My Children and One Life To Live stars? Your last few actually made me cry. It was like catching up with family you hadn’t seen in a very long time. Please, some of us really need it in a time like this🙏🙏
They should have never kill her off.
Alan, Ellen also made appearances to Nancy’s Michelle too.
I'm pretty sure she visited all three adult Michelles, Joy, Rebecca and Nancy .
She visited ALL her Michelles..Peter Simon didn't work with Bethany M#3 though
Amen ms. Sloan because I'm a background actor if we do exteriors at 30 degrees, my ass goes back to holding if they keep me outside for no reason..I'm union over 3 years I will not except not choosing me on camera and I wont be used.
WOW, I JUST NOTICED THIS AND IT'S GREAT. THANKS FOR DOING THIS ALAN. ARE THERE MORE INTERVIEWS IN THE FUTURE.
More to come and thanks for your note.
I love Beth Chamberlain but Judi was always Beth to me. I skipped school to watch her and Lujack when Lujack died and they told her he was dead and she didnt beleive it. I was like 10.
People are always like "Beth and Philip " but nothing ever matched the magic of Beth and LuJack for me.
Agree 200% Vince Irizarry and Judi Evans were the " Bo and Hope" before Bo and Hope (Days of Our Lives)...
My boyfriend sent me flowers at work the day after they killed off Maureen. The card read "Sorry about Maureen". I married him.
I love that, Susan! What a great story.
I agree!!!! Truly a wonderful gesture. If someone can respect and appreciate our love for the soaps and the soap actors and characters in such a special way, they demonstrates that they totally get us and love us!!! You no doubt made a perfect choice to marry someone who is so sensitive to your love for these special people in our lives. Truly one of the best stories I have heard in a long time. Thank you for sharing this awesome it!!! ❤️❤️❤️
All these women are basically the same age as the Golden Girls were in the 90's and they are beautiful. TIna is my fave.
OMG thanks Allen I remember this story line I was so bumped when the killed Maureen. I was in 4th grade and turned the TV on ASAP when I got home to see what happed after the accident. Ellen is a great actress I would love to see her on another show. She would be great in Handmaiden tales.
Wow Matt. You must just been what 9, 10 years old? Started early with the soaps didn't you? 🤔🤔
Yes,, GL brings back great childhood memories. Kids today are so deprived.
Rachel Miner was wonderful as Michelle Bauer.
I don't remember which UA-cam clip it was in. If I find it again I will share it.
@@TheLocherRoom Thanks!
I have a physical disability myself Rachel Spina Bifida.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Chad Jzyk Justin Deas was a ham. Couldn’t stand his acting.
@@BLTKellys He was over the top, I think I remember one ridiculous scene when he was playing basketball with Alexandra.
@@BLTKellys: SO glad to know I wasn't the only one who was not a fan of Justin Deas. I truly did not enjoy any storyline he had on GL.
How about Quint and Nola? or Alan Michael / Frank/ Eleni reunion?
I also blame the so-called "reality TV" as the trigger to the shows demise. Back then people seem to want smut more than substance.
Yes I totally think reality tv is what replaced soaps: I was one of the victims. But no more. I have sworn it off... let’s bring back art again :-)
With all that bieng said in today's context and a reimagining of guiding light I think Maureen could still be dead, but alter the history
To reflect that Ed never cheated on Maureen but Maureen was killed by a drunk driver and Ed fell off the wagon acted out and Lilian helped put Ed back together again which would be a Doug m type way to get rid of a charecter but only when needed.
I appreciate that last line so much, Gabriel. Thanks as always.
I love Tina and Mave i dont know the other ladies .
are you going to have a secret storm reunion.?
I would love to see a reunion of The Secret Storm cast as well--Stephanie Braxton who played Laurie Stevens Reddin and other residents of Woodbridge would be such a tremendous joy to see. The Secret Storm was my absolute favorite soap of all time!!! I still mourn the loss of it to this day.
