God bless you brother I am studying to take it and I am sending your video to my daughter to motivate her to do the same. Thanks bro Adam Byrd of Facebook
Tell me more I’m starting off. I am in between my next quarter of school so right now I’m taking Google search so I just not go to school and just do my Google search
I had a little spark of happiness when I saw other black people at Cisco Live. Fortunately at my company we have several black network engineers but we were definitely short on numbers at Live. Lets get it in.
Great video man. Completely relatable to myself. I left the Army, needed a job, joined a IT helpdesk then moved into a networks role. I've been studying now for just short of a year and failed my icnd2 exam on Monday with a score of 735. Dissapointed but you're right in what you've said, if it was easy everyone would have it. Made my day this video, cheers!
Du'An Lightfoot - I passed my CCENT today with the use of your videos! Thank you for the vids, great motivation for ppl of color and all backgrounds - thanks again homie!
Awesome video! I have been in IT for about 11 years now, and have pretty much maxed out as a tier 2 technical specialist. The past week I have started my studying journey for the CCNA. Thanks for the inspiration, and keep up the good work.
Thanks, I needed that... After six years in the military and a top secret clearance as a Human Resources Information Systems Analyst I came into the real world as a installation tech for time Warner. I went the business route and did Mortgages, Insurance Agent, Financial Consultant and now I find myself full circle studying for the CCNA. I appreciate seeing positive brothers sharing information like this. I'm taking the two test route like your other video mentioned. **Thanks**
At this point, I just gotta tighten up on my WAN knowledge and I'll be ready for rd 2. Study Materials: CCNA Bootcamp (Global Knowledge), Cisco Labs and Study Guide.
Keep it up, brother!!! Much love from your African brother here! I am watching your video from China :) I am pursuing the CCNA certification as well, and your video is very encouraging!
I'm 43, and have been doing deskside/helpdesk support for 11 years and I am just tired of it. I took CCNA classes from 2000-03, and finished. Had my cert voucher and never took the test. Now I regret it. I am tired of the same old same old doing deskside support. I want more. So I am going to give CCNA another shot, a lot has changed since 2003. It's gonna be rough.
I will. Sorry, I just noticed that the date I wrote on my first comment is wrong it should be 24/07/2018. I would like to ask you a question, I pass the the test but I don't have any experience in this field and I don't know where to start from man. Ccna is the only cert that I have in the IT but now I am studying mcsa. By the way, I live in the UK.
Having spent 2,5 years (half the time you did lol) as a help desk / service desk 1st level support for huge international american company and being on the brink of entering my 30's in the last years I spent a lot of the time riding down the subway, by reading Troy McMillan's CCENT literature. Your videos inspire people. I don't know if I'll make it in Cisco or reach CCNA but its a career path which gives hope and purpose to many people. That being said, thanks for the videos. Now I only wish I had a home lab like you. Topman!
i was a warehouse associate working for Lazada in Singapore, as the epidemic broke up, I lost my job and my country lockdown since then, I lost my only income , literally, I could do nothing with it . from the time on, after doing a lot of researches, attended different IT courses from different platforms in order to catch up the most current IT technologies those used in the industry. after going through all those courses, I have made my final dicision, to be a network engineer . I'm wrapping up my time in the military and have been working towards getting my A+ just to try and get my feet wet in the IT world. Your videos have really helped me push forward and study as much as possible in order to get the ball rolling on all of this.
This is soooooo crazy I'm in Centriq right now and I'm trying to find my way through and seeing video and you mentioning Centriq what are the odds??? The signs are there man
I was young, made mistakes. I've worked hard ever since (roughly 10 years) and have put myself in a position where I can finally make moves for myself and my family. I just passed the CCENT in December (started mid-october) and just scheduled ICND2 for the last day (feb 23). I'm confident I'll pass and with my experience I know good things are coming. Just want to put good energy out there for anyone currently in the struggle.
Definitely going to be referring to your videos often. I'm an IT in the USCG (Net+ and Sec+) and WILL be obtaining my CCNA by end of June 2018. Appreciate your insight man! Keep increasing your value out here people!
Great Video Man..... I have been in IT 10 15 years working on all technology , vmware, Active directory , Citrix , networking but now am going deep into networking , Taking my CCNA end of Oct 2017, then going to CCNP and then CCIE , that's the dream.......
hhh me too i'm starting on it, i already bought book the Cisco CCNA in 60 days, and now i understand really more ! if there is any why how can i hekp you are welcome bro ; )
I worked helpdesk at a great company for 5 years. The company was acquired, all future prospects for career moves immediately vanished. The next year or so was one of the worst career slogs I've ever been through. I'm glad you got out. I have a number of colleagues who are still there and have no idea how they stand it.
Your words, your thoughts, very encouraged me keep to stayed in CCNA class, and I'm 49 years old, sometimes I think I'm very old to get into networking, I just started taking CCNA class, it is very hard class, I got layoff from my work because my company moved out of state and I looked something else in high demand out there now, so I picked CCNA program. Thank you, it is inspirational.
Man, you are cool, straight, and honest. Thank you for all those great suggestions! You have a lot of knowledge and experience that can be shared. Thank you in advance!
Hey Du’An! Thanks for the inspiration man. After getting my CCNA 3 months ago, I just landed my first Network Engineer job at 38 years old. The salary is 65K. you think it’s too low? it’s more than what I’ve been making at $21/hr helpdesk though. cool video man.
Nice Pedro and congrats. The question is do you think its too low? Look at your job market and also look at what others with the same qualifications, skills, and job title to see what they are making. Then ask yourself are worth what you are getting paid or should you be getting more. Then if so, do what it takes to get that money! Hope this helps now if you can kindly share and subscribe :)
Du'an, Thanks for the inspiration. Thank you for your military service! I'm prior Army, comms & electronics repair. I can do this! At 47 I was a 16 yr. Century Link outside tech and had a career ending, on the job injury. Its been a tough 5 years since being broken off! I really believe this will be my ticket back into a sustainable career. Again, thanks for the inspiration and the tips.
25L (cable installed/maintainer) and 25H (network communication systems specialist) now. currently learning ccna right now and getting a interview as a network engineer. your videos is a great help. thank you.
I hear where you are coming from. I've worked helpdesk and desktop support for 5-6 years, and felt like it was going nowhere. Then I got a job doing layer 1 refreshes for a cisco gold partner at a hospital contract. After doing that for a year, I'm studying for CCNA, and so far, I have done most of the stuff already! Looking for hardware to build a home lab.
Thanks im a 28 year old mother of two another on the way next month and Ive taken the course but didnt take it serious because I didnt believe i was smart enough. But i work for a company in west Africa in getting cisco certificates and my company are taking young Africans with only a highschool level education and they are getting their CCNA. Im an american and have college education and the level of dedication our students have is amazing. Most of them are French speckers and came here to Ghana the country im in to learn English and came here. All that have there CCNA are not even IT people they all give me hope that i too can do it.
Jesus was born to a virgin, turned water to wine, taught, healed the sick, raised the dead, casted out demons, walked on water, and calmed the storm, among many other things. He was killed, and three days later He rose from the dead. Forty days later He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father. He is returning very soon, but before He does, Satan, the devil, is coming to pretend to be Jesus. Satan is an angel, and he will have certain supernatural powers with which to try to fool everyone. He will, for example, be able to make fire come down from heaven in the sight of men. He will only be on earth a short time before the real King of Kings, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, returns. When the real Jesus comes we will all be transformed into our spiritual bodies at the same moment. Jesus came to offer forgiveness of sins and eternal life to anyone who believes and calls on His precious name. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; - Romans 3:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - Romans 6:23 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. - John 3:16-18 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. - Proverbs 9:10
Working on my CCNA now. I have the same book, but you definitely need more than one source of info. I also have a udemy bootcamp video program I'm using. Can't wait to get my CCNA, it will indeed open much more doors.
I started my journey in November of 2022 I bought the Cisco press books and now I’m 8 chap away from finishing vol2 . I wished I done this as degree plan other than criminal justice but I was active duty at the time and since then retired but my family works in IT and they say it’s a good fit for an over thinker like me and since I’ve started my journey I couldn’t be more excited. I’m currently looking to take my exam in June.
I see you got a Dave Ramsey book on your shelf. I read the Total Money Makeover in 2016 and paid off over $50k in a couple years (with gazelle intensity) to become debt free. Anyway, going in a CCNA class end of March in an effort to be more intentional with my skills.
Good info for folks looking to break into something new. I have been on the fence with creating a channel as well. I am also ex Army and spent 7 years at a very interesting helpdesk/ISP working for military as a contractor. The level of troubleshooting I learned there was golden. Thanks for sharing the knowledge fam!
Thanks brother will helped me out tremendously. From Kansas City myself and appreciate the help you are putting out there for many of us with my questions and insecurities. 100
Damn bruh. that's real talk. I do appriciate real talk. Ive been in IT for over 20 years. I got moved from network to an IP based radio network, to a Mainframe. My skill set has suffered as a result of no hands on and technology passing me up. NOW im ready and, quite frankly, eager. Thanks for giving me some hope and focus young brotha ( you may be old but im Old as Dirt LoL)
Love this channel man, keep it up! I feel like we share a similar mindset in that money is a motivator, but an even bigger motivator is learning and sharing that knowledge.
+Du'An Lightfoot yes bro, I have a daily study plan until February with rest times between each test. It's so hard but I know It would change my Life again
Hey there Du'An. Im a KC native also and obtained my ccent and working on getting my ccna. I looked at centriq but decided to attend the cisco network academy at mcckc. Currently working as a data center tech . Unfortunately the data center will be closing next year but hopefully my ccna can get me into the door somewhere else. Good luck to you and good inspirational video!!
I'm 27 and I've spent 4.5 years in help desk. We just had a management change this time last year and the new CIO and I spoke 1-1 the week before Thanksgiving. He wants me to go after the certs. 4.5 years in helpdesk is almost too much lol I'm the only IT person in my state for the company so I'm always running site to site being the on-site guy for the network team for whatever they need (minus a couple issues, but that's where the certs/knowledge from the certs will kick in!) I also went to college where I learned A LOT of what's on the net+, but not the entire material. College is not enough these days. It's not what it used to be according to what people like my parents said it was or what a lot of people that haven't gone to college think it is. There are still some good things there, but it's not the ENTIRE picture. I don't know why I shared that, but I'm having my first child in March and I'm going to work on my CCENT and work towards the CCNA! It's happening!
Thanks bro. You are an inspiration! I am a computer technician with a Bachelor's degree in computer science and 3 years of tech support experience making no more than $14.00 an hr. For me it has simply not been cutting it. I hope with CCNA, A+, and Net + certifications i can move on to better job opportunities.
I’m taking my ccna classes at my local college. I just dislike the classes are only 8 weeks. I have no I.T back ground so it’s a little intimidating when everyone else is caughting on so quickly. I don’t want to fail at it.
Your videos are very inspiring. Keep them coming. I can relate to your story, from doing music previously to working at the service desk. Currently self-studying for ICND1 and this helped a lot.
+Du'An Lightfoot I can't tell you how glad I am that I found your videos. It's great to hear from someone real life who's doing what I want to do. I have loved IT since I was little and the TRS-80 was the best on the block. Finally at 48 the time has come to make a career out of what I love. My goal is to get into a position to find a good IT job in the beginning of 2019 and then gain experience and more certifications so I can get a great IT job in the future. I really want to work in Networking and have no doubt I can get a CCNA later this year. Any suggestions of any other certs/training I can accomplish in the next year to get me ready for that entry level IT job this time next year? Thanks again for everthing you do and for your service to our great country!
No professional technical experience here. Got ccna route and switch, cant land basic jobs. Nearly prepared for ccna-security just because getting into anything IT related is hard. Not even sure why every job is looking for 5yrs technical experience. Changed resume up 3x. Only getting accepted into desperate jobs that want to steal my freedom for less pay then medical assembly. Communication is upper level. Id say ccna is not auto entry anywhere. Jobs filter and they filter hard. Interns arent even letting me in. Some help please
in Denmark we take the CCNA over 3 weeks where you work 7/24 and then take the final, and then have to make a physical presentation of a topology they ask you to setup... but atleast its free
oooh man thank you so much i hope that CCNA will change my life also know and i feel every word that you are saying because i faced many things like you even i am not in The USA but i had the same life that you had
I admire you. I came across your channel on a humble and I’m glad I did. I will be in touch.. I want my CCNA I’m just trying to figure my game plan.. I’m confused on these different levels of CCNA certs
Thank you for the inspiration brother. I immediately subbed and I will be checking out your posts. I'm looking to get into a career in the tech world and as overwhelming the subject is for a person like myself with zero IT experience, seeing relatable folks like yourself is extremely motivational. Shout out from Oakland, Cali... ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Brilliant and beautiful video! Keep up the good work, I'm a fan! I got my CCNA 10yrs ago from studying a book and with 0mins of hands on. Now I am studying for Cisco Networking Academy starting in August. I really know nothing but videos and 6.3 Packet Tracer! Why does it expire every two years?
Try to get a lab and put your hands on stuff, theoretical studies are very informative but with some lab equipment you get to understand and work on scenarios. There’s a bunch of them on eBay ($200 to 400). Good luck
Good Video man it inspired me, even if I'm not gonna to make the Cisco certifications since it's not my biggest interest but I'm working towards to get maybe by end of this year or early next year a OSCP .
+Du'An Lightfoot thanks man and you're right it's not about cert XYZ it's about what you want to do and to have goal to reach and in the best case you get something that is showing other people that you mad your way and reached that goal or in other words it's about what your're passionate about.
bo latt . Ill be thirty in three days. Almost got my bachelor's. I feel the same way u do. But I just figure there is a lot of work beyond my degree. And I will have to compete. If you are not going down with out a fight and you compete best u can. I think you will make it.
Du'An Lightfoot Yay Thabks, but I will start in my second semester. Right now I'm on my first semester and I am learning about career finance and management. I have to take this course before cisco.
just grabbed a new sub, one you got me from your other video about CCNA certification that youtube sent me to. then i came to your page and watching your home page video. You had me sold when you mentioned Kansas City! (i work downtown and live in LS) and literally just bought the CCNA certification through icollege after seeing it was on sale from tech deals through android authority... Not to mention you said Centriq, i have a cousin that went there and got his Comptia A+ certification through them. You got me sold. I definitely had to subscribe. if i have any questions along the way i might reach out to you haha. Thanks for the information and the video. Man even youtube is making kansas city smaller than what it is. Best of luck on your journey brotha!
computers and technology changed my life to the good
but college wasted my time forgood . I wish I knew about these certifications when I was younger
dont we all dude, We just gotta keep moving
Same here.
God bless you brother I am studying to take it and I am sending your video to my daughter to motivate her to do the same. Thanks bro Adam Byrd of Facebook
I disagree. What you didn't know then will benefit you now, things happen for a reason and nothing gets done without the timing being right.
Tell me more I’m starting off. I am in between my next quarter of school so right now I’m taking Google search so I just not go to school and just do my Google search
IT is a golden hustle man. Just got my A+. Going to finish Net+ in about two months, then I may get into CCNA.
Hows it coming man just started my A+
@CalmBurrito987 anyway to get that quicker without bullshit online schooling??

Motivational man, yo boi from IOC 👍🏽
Thanks im a 28 year old mother of two another on the way next month and Ive taken the course but didnt take it serious because I didnt believe i was smart enough. But i work for a company in west Africa in getting cisco certificates and my company are taking young Africans with only a highschool level education and they are getting their CCNA. Im an american and have college education and the level of dedication our students have is amazing. Most of them are French speckers and came here to Ghana the country im in to learn English and came here. All that have there CCNA are not even IT people they all give me hope that i too can do it.
Thnx for serving and making these vids!! I'm using my VR&E to change careers to IT... Excited to see more vids!!
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; - Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - Romans 6:23
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. - John 3:16-18
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Dropping knowledge as always brotha, great video !
I appreciate this candid conversation. This really helps. I look forward to watching more of your content as you continue in your IT career.
Thanks Bro. I hope your continue to progress . A great witness!!!
Love this channel man, keep it up! I feel like we share a similar mindset in that money is a motivator, but an even bigger motivator is learning and sharing that knowledge.
that's so true bro, CCNA changed my life too. Now CCNP would change my life! go go go
+Du'An Lightfoot yes bro, I have a daily study plan until February with rest times between each test. It's so hard but I know It would change my Life again
Thank you brother
How expensive is having such kind of dream on you like helping and learning not just money
Keep up
This really hit home. Thanks for posting. Now it time to get back to the books.
Du'An Lightfoot you are correct He definitely does!!
I know what you mean. Are you in Netacad currently?
How did the classes go?
Your videos are very inspiring. Keep them coming. I can relate to your story, from doing music previously to working at the service desk. Currently self-studying for ICND1 and this helped a lot.
I'm glad I found your channel, definitely needed the little extra boost of morale to push forward with ICND1 and 2!
Hey man, this has been very inspiring to me! Wish you the best in your career.
Thanks for this video, Du'An - I think it's valuable. Good luck on your career!
You are welcome James and thank you.
Thanks for sharing your story and making this video !
Did you come to any resolution
Perfectly defined: Get out of the comfort zone. Get into the real networks...very motivational
in Denmark we take the CCNA over 3 weeks where you work 7/24 and then take the final, and then have to make a physical presentation of a topology they ask you to setup... but atleast its free
oooh man thank you so much
i hope that CCNA will change my life also
know and i feel every word that you are saying
because i faced many things like you
even i am not in The USA but i had the same life that you had
Thank you bro. I am now working as a service desk analyst and this video has been very inspirational.
I admire you. I came across your channel on a humble and I’m glad I did. I will be in touch.. I want my CCNA I’m just trying to figure my game plan.. I’m confused on these different levels of CCNA certs
Thank you for the motivation!
appreciate the motivation man at my help desk job now ..ill be back to say i passed this exam ! on everything !
I always seem to spend the money instead of saving it for the test. I need to refresh on the material I went through on packet tracer.
I can relate completely. Sometimes employers will pay for exams. And if you are a veteran the MGIBill will pay also.
Thank you very much. I'm from Italy. Great Video! You're right: money is important of course but knowledge comes first.
I.T. Career Questions brought me here..Great intro into this arena.. Thanks! Just subscribed!!
Appreciate you sharing your experience. I was barely introduced to this & excited to get into this
God bless you, brother. This video was exceptionally inspirational.
+Sho Thank you. God Bless you also.
I was debating between the Network+ and the CCNA, your video made my decision a lot easier. I will be going for the CCNA...thanks!!!
Any updates on your CCNA?
what was your MOS? I always thought that the Service is a good place to learn a Technical job. Specially in the Air Force.
Nice video man. Just started my training with INE. Looking forward to making this next step.
Appreciate it man. I'm sure I'll have some questions on future videos of yours.
Changing Technology - evolution!
Try to get a lab and put your hands on stuff, theoretical studies are very informative but with some lab equipment you get to understand and work on scenarios.
There’s a bunch of them on eBay ($200 to 400).
Good luck
Great Video, Du'An..thank you for sharing your story!!
Thanks for sharing. Very encouraging!
You are the man and are a major inspiration for me. Thank you.
Thanks bro you are very inspiring, im currently working on getting a ccna and your advice is very helpful
good job bro, just passed the sec+ exam and going for ccna
I'm turning 30 soon.. Please convince me i'm not too old to start .. Please send me some encouragement thank you brothers
thank you so much bro
bo latt Definitely not to late. I will be 38 this September at which point I will be ready to take the 200-125 test.
bo latt . Ill be thirty in three days. Almost got my bachelor's. I feel the same way u do. But I just figure there is a lot of work beyond my degree. And I will have to compete. If you are not going down with out a fight and you compete best u can. I think you will make it.
bo latt You're never too old to get into I.T. Continue to learn and it will pay off handsomely.
I was in class with a 70 year old man, I promise you approaching thirty? I'm mid thirties and shooting for this. You got it man.
" Don't Let Nothing stop you , Nothing "...
Good shit bro you god me inspired. I was in the military with a clearance but most employers dont give AF.
Im going to get my ccna in the end of my senior year of hs, I am a freshmen right now studying cisco networking and programming
+PhobicYT You will be ahead of your class! Good luck.
Du'An Lightfoot Yay Thabks, but I will start in my second semester. Right now I'm on my first semester and I am learning about career finance and management. I have to take this course before cisco.
Your goal- to help people. You just helped me! Thanks.
Yeah man. You made a difference.
I will let you know when I pass.
just grabbed a new sub, one you got me from your other video about CCNA certification that youtube sent me to. then i came to your page and watching your home page video.
Thanks fam! Feel free to hit me up.
will do! thanks again
