    I've worked for lifestyle magazines - not specifically for design and architecture, but I know one of the best ones in my area, some of them are even my friends, and I've never heard so simple, charming and easy to get it explanations. You are wonderful, happy to find you. I have an inspiration to make some changes in my home.

    This video hits the nail on the head. Minimalist shouldn't mean 'less furniture'. It means 'less stuff', so if you get there by having MORE furniture, then you're on the right path. there's ways to hide the furniture or write it into your space so it doesn't stick out, though. :)

    The point about open storage is spot on. I have built in closed cabinets in my living room. It looks clean and elegant but inside I have pillows, electronics, books, and miscellaneous. Everything is easy to access but out of the way.

    1:10 laughed so hard at reality because it’s pretty much everyone I know around me. I keep telling them they need ones with doors but no one listens to me and they wonder why everything is ugly.
    Your matching point is so true. My mother loves loves traditional furniture which means EVERYTHING MUST MATCH. the anger it causes me knows no bounds it’s so 90’s and early 2000’s it hurts my heart even if those pieces are actually really amazing good quality. In fact I took out the couch and put it in another living space to break up the set and just that makes it so much prettier. I do need to burn the coffee table…..it’s time is coming I swear.
    Please do one on libraries! I want to make a small den into a library.

      I made an old coffee table into Art.
      I had an old Poster of the 4 elements.
      The pictures were Gothic style.
      I put it on the table top and lacquered it.
      Trimmed it with a brass strip with brass nails.
      It looks amazing!
      Don't throw AWAY furniture with Good Bones

      @yadiaag7771 19 днів тому

      @ this coffee table is Massive, I can’t even give it away. I’m a shorty at 5 ft tall and I could easily make it into my bed.
      And I stub my toes on it…that’s the main reason it must die 😂

    Literally went home and put a chaise lounge and a Chester chair on a not-quite right rug and I feel like it really pulls the room together. Just even having one leg on and angled inward makes it so much better. The rug had previously tried to anchor an oversized couch, and it wasn’t working. I moved it forward 3 feet and tucked it under the chairs. What a difference! Thank you so much for these practical tips!

      If the fireplace is the only focal point in the room, I like the TV above. Detest much more if TV is adjacent and area isn’t streamlined

      @1974angels Рік тому +6

      In my traditional home, we have a fairly large living room with a wood burning fireplace. The only logical and symmetrical place for our tv is above the fireplace. Personally I’d do without the tv there but since I don’t live alone and my husband loves tv it went above the fireplace. Since for us it’s far enough from our sofa we never have to hurt our necks to watch tv. I do understand that spaces that are smaller where the tv is very close to the sofa it would be very uncomfortable to watch. I would love a stunning mirror instead but for now it is what it is 😂

    • @lorena92966
      @lorena92966 2 місяці тому +3

      I hate the tv above fireplace look. The tv should be at about eye level sitting. So what we did was position the couch to be able to see the fireplace, tv on wall and look outside in one swoop. We actually decided the room into two seating areas. One for tv watching and the other for entertainment. House builders do not think of practical layouts for how people really live and where they will place their furniture. So we have to be creative.

    I have been to numerous furniture stores and four cities surrounding me and I have seen in the last six years that I have been shopping for living room furniture all they have is this gigantic overfilled over stuffed furniture. It’s big it’s bulky. It’s ridiculous and does not work in small spaces, I have resorted to ordering furniture from Amazon sellers and add a fraction of the price of local furniture stores. I do love my club chairs that I bought on Amazon. I love the little sofa sette almost as much.

    My issue with Renting.
    Is the lack of appliance outlets.
    So to place a TV and stereo and extra lighting .. becomes difficult.
    Using a multi plug in one outlet can be dangerous.
    I recommend Led battery lights.
    You can get Led candles and lamps and lighting strips.
    Just replacing the batteries can be a chore.
    So. I purchased.. rechargable Batteries.

    If you have two sofas facing each other in the living room, would you go for the exact same model in the same color or two different models varying a bit in size and design, but with a similar matching color?

    • @baixu
      @baixu  Місяць тому

      I currently have two matching sofas in grey velvet facing each other, identical (we picked grey because of our cat....); however, if I would refurnish it, I would actually pick a sofa on one side, and 2 armchairs on the opposite side, because it's more flexible, and I would make the armchairs and sofas be in different colours and different models, so it feels more curated and less formal; that's my personal opinion though! Some people prefer symmetry and a more formal vibe.

  • @serpentinefrolics
    @serpentinefrolics Місяць тому +2

    "Open storage" is actually supposed to be "open decor", something you use instead tad of paintings. As in, decide if you want wall art, or wall shelves with decoration. Never ever "store" things on open shelves, that's not what they're for (unless it's bookshelves and you're using them to store books).

    Soooooo….there is a difference between open storage and open shelving and then closed storage.
    The problem with closed storage is that it invites hoarding and not using things. If you are storing something you are not using the thing every day. So put it, well labeled, in a closet. But if you use it every day find a way to have it accessible.

    I am a minimalist and I don’t like a lot of stuff. I like it clean and airy. And I don’t agree with you about the matching concept. What you are showing in your video is way too much staff who is going to clean all that? Too many pictures on the walls.

    • @l.5832
      @l.5832 12 днів тому

      But some people prefer that. It is preference and free choice. Some minimalists would call an empty room with one chair "cluttered".....

    • @mishka5706
      @mishka5706 11 днів тому

      @ u don’t know what a minimalist is. Minimalist don’t have any thing extra over what is needed.and yes if the chair is not needed and is place there only for decor it is clutter.

    • @baixu
      @baixu  4 дні тому

      Thank you for sharing your perspective! It’s totally okay that you don’t agree with me-design is so personal! 😊 Aesthetic beauty is subjective, and everyone has different preferences.
      As a minimalist, you likely prefer a lower level of visual complexity in a space, and I think it’s great that you know what works for you. What feels comfortable for you might feel sterile to someone else, and that’s perfectly okay. There’s no right or wrong here-design is a spectrum, and every approach has its beauty. 😊
