Queen of Blood (1966) Basil Rathbone, John Saxon, Judi Meredith, Dennis Hopper and the mysterious vampire alien queen (Florence Marly) in one far out flick... in space.
Actually a decent sci fi flick, especially when you take into consideration its microscopic budget. The music during the opening credits is the original recording of composer Ronald Stein's score for "Not of This Earth" (195?) which Roger Corman directed. For its use here, the tape was played at a slower than usual speed. Much of the film's other background music is lifted from the original recording of Stein's score for "The Undead" (1957), also directed by Corman. Judi Meredith had been training to become an Olympic ice skater, but she injured her knee in a fall and decided to pursue an acting career instead. She also appeared in "Jack the Giant Killer" and William Castle's "The Nightwalker" which starred Barbara Stanwyck.
Yes. This is low budget creativity in Hollywood (where it can be hard to put a little extra quality "spin" on things due to high cost of everything) at its best. Everyone really tried and, in spite of its budgetary flaws, this film has a kind of consistency in its mood, its eerie feel. I think Joe Dante once said he felt this film recalled those colorful SF paintings of Frank R. Paul. I think that that's not far off the mark. Actually, sometimes being too slick and mainstream in style can strip a film (or any art) of its personality, its individuality so all you are left with is a kind of off-the-shelf "factory-made" product.
Lovely colourful space fantasy which borrows scenes from classic Russian Sci Fi movies, hence the disjointed scenes, continuity and dialogue. Basil (Sherlock Holmes) Rathbone adds a touch of class to the proceedings and, though they seem light years apart - it would only be 3 years before Dennis Hopper would be having a different kind of 'trip' in EASY RIDER. KAN 9.19 UK
WONDERFUL colourful space romp. The story has more holes in it than Blackburn Lancashire as the film is mainly made up from many scenes from Russian sci-fi movies, but the scenes used are visually stunning, The vampire alien is very impressive. Well worth a look!
Anyone who complains about the commercials or the idiots that talk in between should know that there’s a red dot which can be used to skip that stuff! You’re welcome!
The Russian film that this is cribbed from.... has alway completely and UTTERLY fascinated me from a child up to an adult... one of the main reasons i love sci fi classics today
Calm, alluring and deceptively deadly, she is easily one of the strangest most frightening humanoid aliens ever created for a science fiction/horror movie and shes colored green.
I think to get in the spirit of this I'm going to wear my dressiest slacks. Golf announcers refer to pants as trousers. That must all mean something about me and them. And parents, please accompany your kids to the refreshment center, the parking lot is rife with predators.
1:15:14 that body looks pretty light for a full grown man. And the silly bible reading is pretty irelavant now that they have found life on other planets. Religion is pretty rediculous anyway.
Weird. No matter what I do, I can’t get this video to zoom to widescreen on my television. Shame too, it’s the best looking version I can find streaming.
It really irritates me when a less thrilling move steals the sound effects from a more thrilling better movie. The early sound effects are from Forbidden Planet.☹️
In the deep reaches of space a Roger Corman flick smashed into a Soviet space flick and produced... V-Ger! er... no it produced this movie. Which is better than it has any right to be.
The exterior shot of the IIST assembly area and all the exterior scenes of the "other" world as well as the interior shots of the alien craft were above par for sci-fi in this time frame. I liked the story better than the other space vampire movies of the time it was more cerebral than just fighting vampires in outer space. I've look for it and short of antenna tv or buying the dvd it's been hard to find, I'll save it for my next watch. Thanks for making it available.
Didn't know the hungry ears' trio of beats were on UA-cam I use to watch it on WKBW pre-internet in the late 90's(some what pre-internet) The trio's looking a little long in the tooth, but then, so am I Wha ta treasure trove the net has been for obscure films. I enjoy the commentary
saw this as a child and finally found it again. my memory of the film was fading and i could not remember the name. i think it had a lasting influence on me, my love of science, and my entanglements with the wiles of women. there are more than a few blood suckers out there and they aren't all green - lol. thanks for posting.
1:27 I remember seeing this on the Channel 56 Creature Double Feature back in the 70's. This scene was super creepy but most excellent! I think the host was originally Dale Dorman. Then the host became the Son of Sven Ghoulie!
What the hell is going on with the Roger Corman movies and YT . This is the only survivor thats NOT blocked . I'm in the US . Roger Corman has always been a long time favorite . So ... What's happening ???
a horrible tragedy happens in this scene, the worst ever of course, his shield was set too high, the entire plan for Arrakis was had to be altered, Duncan Idaho was not set for 'uptake' by the Imperium, several Imperial attache were sadly killed by the shield, Idaho was uptaked, and the rest continues on of course
I saw this on tv when I was 4 years old- I was born in 1966 the year it came out it seems. I watched it alone after being allowed to stay up and told i could sleep on the couch remember vividly her eyes, the eggs being found etc it was a strange sensation as my 55+ year old brain 'merged' with my 4 year old memories/awareness from then thanks for posting this
Yes i remember this i rememder some kid in the neighborhood making fun of me because i thought king kong was a way better movie how strange the past can be
30 minutes into the movie and on the 3rd skit from Beat Off Cinema. How about more movie and less dork? I'll be moving on to a channel that doesn't have as much drivel now.
I found the name of this CLASSIC movie quite by accident by looking up the leading lady Florence Marly when I saw her on a 60s series called "Millionaire". I can't TELL you how thrilled I was - this movie scared & spooked the hell out of my best friend & I while watching it on a B&W TV, on a show called Sir Graves Ghastly in the 60s- a weekend treat we had at that time. So glad it's posted here! I thought it was in B&W - but the TV was!😁 Anyway - YAY!🛰👽👍🌟 Dennis Hopper being it this was quite the bonus too. Live the Drive-in theater ad at the opening!
SO LONG JOHN SAXON YOU WERE A FAVORITE ENTERTAINER THROUGHOUT SO MUCH OF MY LIFE. YOU WILL BE MISSED.
My favorite role of his was the Villain in Battle Beyond the Stars.
John Saxton was a great actor and good on the eyes!❤
He was such big part of child hood and youth he is missed
5:19 Actual movie starts here
Many thanks!
Rasil bathbone played Hairlock sholmes
I don't eat...chocolate
R.I.P John Saxon!!!!!!!

this would be a great remake by an independant. particulrily now with the mars exploration.
I've always liked this film. Nice mood. Plus a lot of wild footage from the Russian sf film Roger Corman was importing and "re-purposing" at the time.

Famous last words "They'll keep them under control." Decent movie but a slow start.
Sounds like what Wayland Yutani Corporation would say about the Xenomorphs --- We'll keep them under control !!! Yeah right !💀
The Queen of Blood kinda reminds me a little bit of Lady Gaga. LOL! Look at 59:20
I was thinking of another man-eater, Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction."
Lady Gaga would be a Good Choice to Star in a Remake.

Astronauts (John Saxon, Basil Rathbone, Judi Meredith) go to Mars and return with a green vampire woman.
I really liked this one. Planet of Vampires was above it, but still a really enjoyable film
Why all green girls are so sensual and seductive. From star trek to lost in space. I need a green girl in my life
Me too! Heh,heh!
Might want to check with peter quill first.
"Pretty..handsome..Dr.Smith.."
Why ARE all green girls so sensual and seductive?
I’ve always had a thing for She-Hulk and the Wicked Witch of the West... it’s perfectly natural 😳

" Drive in announcement reminded me of going to the local drive in back home in our pajamas "
i so remember the "hot buttered popcorn, hotdogs, the way you like'em!' ad at the drive-in. we lost googie culture when tv went cable..
@@pigshitpoet Another tradition gone in the name of "progress".
Wow, Dennis Hopper doing shtick! A truly transcendent experience. :D
Calm, alluring and deceptively deadly, she is easily one of the strangest most frightening humanoid aliens ever created for a science fiction/horror movie and shes colored green.
And I want this verdant vixen so much.

The Forbidden Planet set was re-used in the movie "The Queen of Outer Space".
Dee Zimmo Incorrect. Sound effects not sets.
And War of the World's too.

RIP John Saxon. Thanks for sharing this, y'all! It's hard to find.
I thought that I'd never see this movie again. I even remember the alien ocean scene back in the '60s.
These old movies are sometimes better than today's except for the avengers.
This would make for a perfect remake!
A little campy, but very intelligent. It's science fiction in the purest sense of the term.
campy is the gift of b-movies..
At 57:00 John Saxon has important 'noos' to convey.
It's a shame actors in US movies were never able to pronounce NEWS correctly.
Excellent sci-fi, Florence Marly is wonderfully creeepy
You know it’s a sci fi flick when you hear the theramin . Seems like every sci fi flick in the 50’s had that sound.
Their already living and breading here BANKERS
Basil Ratbone, THE SAX! Dennis over the top Hopper! Come on! This Is my kind of movie
Sherlock Holmes himself.
@49:53 "No planet for old men" - Call it! Heads!
John Saxon who later played Roper in Enter the Dragon.
The artwork is astonishing 👌
I always said the same thing love that theme music too
una muy buena pelicula
Si
What about blood and donughts I love that one
I was hoping the big message at 12:34 would end up being: "Send more Chuck Berry." :)

one thing they got right was to protect themselves from a solar storm.

Hope you come back on Tv in tulsa again soon, but I found you here on u tube, thank God!!
"Bad grades, always at raves" that commercial is lol!
18:43 This part of the film is featured in RoboCop 2.
Zelda been watching you for a long time and you are timeless baby
this reminds me of life force
A good melding of Horror and Science Fiction.
That Queen is the witch from DUNE or am Imagining things
I look for it, but i saw nothing relating them.
LOL, I read it as "beat off" cinema
Love love love these movies had to use skill to do spx instead of computers
Americans stolen a soviet movie to make a not so bad movie...
Love this film!!
Aldo Stevenson me too! 😉🥰

26:29 lmaooooo he must think they're at nasa... with that very unimaginative cadence attempt
Classic!
The opening art is cool
Space vampires, a familiar cinema theme. though panned by the critics, I am really partial to Life Force.
Brings back memories, I used to watch OBC everyweekend when it was on WKBW

Just discovered this one...a solid and suspenseful Sci-Fi movie.
