Hear me out, take james acasters character back to britain. Ghostbusters UK directed by Edgar Wright and starring the actors from hot fuzz. Make it dry adult humor like the first one, and give me some wacky british ghosts in a small historic town.
So, for me, I am not a huge Ghostbusters fan. I haven't necessarily actively disliked any of them (I didn't watch 2016), but none of them really grabbed me either. I just saw Frozen Empire last night, and I felt like it was 100% the best Ghostbusters movie I have seen. I enjoyed it way more than I expected. Pretty surprised now at the majorly negative reviews I was seeing around the premiere. This is the first Ghostbusters movie I actually want to watch again, and the first time I am genuinely interested in seeing a sequel in the franchise. Had a really good time with this one.
Greg going to his first premiere and realizing that most people at those have rose tinted glasses after experiencing the whole excitement of the evening lol. That's why they hold premieres. To schmooze people.
To Miller's point, the Ghostsbusters never had story arcs in the originals, so Phoebe and Gary having arcs in this movie is a Buster Bonus when you actually think about it.
Greg, just watched this with the family and tbh the 4/10 rating is borderline unhinged. Frozen Empire was a fun movie packed with fun Ghostbusters-on-the-job hijinks. It's a 7/10 for me.
My biggest problem with the movie is it takes WAY too long to get going. The first 80% of the movie is all setup for the rushed finale. It doesn't really feel like there's an Act 2. I still enjoyed myself but the movie has way too much going on. Should've cut Podcast and Lucky.
Agree with this entirely. I also don’t think there’s anything really good driving the first 2/3 of the movie. Would enjoy it more if they just leaned into the comedy of the family at the firehouse.
I'd put it that this villain is by far the best...at least he does things. Hear me out; Gozer hangs out on top of an apartment building Vigo comes out of a picture and makes a baby float 2016 christ knows... Gozer 2.0 hangs in a field
In the prologue I took it as the guy w the ball in his hand in the armor was the fire master who had captured Ice Satan just after all the society dudes got ice'd. Unclear if they stole it or paid the fire guy off. Too much unsaid/rushed, it was a six episode season stuffed into a two hour movie. Still a dope movie tho, great with the lights off and surround sound
Thoroughly enjoyed Frozen Empire and thought it was on par with Afterlife with a little less emotional resonance and a lot more laughs. This reimagining of the franchise has me hooked.
Slimer was truly so unnecessary. Finn Wolfhard and Slimers scenes should have been cut. They were in their for A) Slimer marketing and B) to give Finn Wolfhard some scenes
Rick Moranis is supposed to be attached to a Honey I Shrunk the Kid reboot-quel with Josh Gad, but we haven’t had any updates on that? So expecting him sounds reasonable.
Josh Gad confirmed (a year ago?) that the project was shelved. It's was one of those "covid ideas" that made some noise but ultimately didn't come to be.
Ghostbusters is probably the best example of milking an IP way past its limit. The first movie was great but after that nothing has lived up to it. It just doesn’t work as a franchise.
It's a franchise because the people that liked it as kids are obsessed with it and can't let it go for some reason. They are pathetically enslaved by their nostalgia. It was a freaking comedy movie, it doesn't need a sequel, and almost every comedy sequel blows. I mean, I love plenty of 70s/80s comedies myself, but I'm not out here begging for an Animal House cinematic universe or whatever. I don't want an "Airplane 5", or "Groundhog Day 7". One good movie is more than enough.
The idea of ghost exterminators has a lot of potential. It could easily be a franchise. The problem is the people writing them are so creatively bankrupt that they have to rely on cheap fanservice and recycling old characters and ideas.
The last movie had Egon's death. Obviously the were real life reasons for that, but they didn't have to go that route and the ending is much more touching and less comedic overall too. You can still be funny and kill people off. GotG 2 comes to mind.
Just watched the movie and just finished the In Review, I was thinking the exact same thing lol I dont think thats how hollywood works but its funny how things line up
2:21:39 Nick basically throws out his whole argument when he says the first Ghostbusters scared him and felt like it had stakes AS A KID, but this one felt like no one was going to die. You were a kid, dude. Of course you were able to believe there was actual peril. The first Ghostbusters was a straight up comedy, of course no one was going to die.
James acaster is my favourite working comedian so hearing that his character felt pointless sucks I don’t really care about ghostbusters but I love his work so much that I was thinking of seeing it because of him but maybe I’ll just wait like I have with every ghostbusters movies that came out.
Haven’t watched the video yet, but (Spoilers) If the plot contrivance of Possessor/Goraka not realizing Podcast made a recording of the chants and if the lighter wasn’t written to have run out of lighter fluid during the fight then Melody would have not had any affect on the plot whatsoever for the baffling amount of screen time she got
I think this is my least favorite opening scene (not bad, just not close to best) because it doesn't end with a punch. We're coming in after it. If it opened with them having dinner, then they release the ghost, all freeze, pan the room everyone is frozen then cue title - way better.
I have an important question to those that have seen it. Does Bill Murray show up in this movie? You know like give a good performance or is it just phoned in? Because his line in the trailer gave me hope like we're gonna see a fun Bill Murray here!
Great review guys. Keep up the good work. Greg’s “watch in a red state” comment is one of the most ignorant things I’ve ever heard. Keeping the divide the size of the Grand Canyon. 🤦
I enjoyed the movie, it was a fun time. Definitely not worse than Madame Web, its ridiculous that it even got a score above a 3 lol Very valid points made by everyone but didnt think about most til after the movie. The split between Winston's people and the Spenglers made no sense, they seem to barely have money for things while the others get all this cool modern high tech stuff, very weird choice
Gotta be honest guys this movie was bad I usually love how even when Tim or someone from KF likes a bad movie they say this is bad but FUN bad. I feel a bias coming from this review I don’t usually feel yes this can be enjoyed but to say everything is good not great is just plain wrong this movie has some genuinely bad qualities
I probably will watch the movie eventually when it's available to stream but i'm excited for this In Review! Sucks for Sony to have 2 stinkers so close to each other with Frozen Empire and Madame Web...
The trailers looked ass for this movie. But in no way did this movie look worst than Madam Web. I haven't seen either of these movies. But the comparison feels like a broken game vs a boring game. Sure the boring game is boring. But the broken game is unplayable. I am going to watch Frozen empire in Madame Web back to back when they are available to compare.
i feel like the next ghostbusters should just be the 1995 movie "Casper" with ghostbusters. come to think of it, it gave me some of the vibes at times. also come to think of it, there was a ghostbusters cameo in casper lol
Also surprised nobody’s mentioned the canceled Seth Rogen, Jonah hill, Craig Robinson ghost busters movie. Than we got the Paul Feig one. Those would have been so good
Man, I just got out of this and I am not a fan. For the longest time during it I was like this just isn’t hitting for me, and then it became I dislike these choices a lot in the last act. The writing throughout is so stilted and weird. Only Dan and Ernie really got any actual acting done. Felt like Bill did not want to be there again. The story is just another rip off of the originals, way too many characters, and the humor was super hit or miss. Even Paul Rudd was flat for a lot of his time - which is wild to me, because I’ve loved him in everything he’s ever been in. This is like a 2/5 for me and it was the ‘Dad’ line that seals that for me, but I’m happy Greg is happy. Don’t know if I can keep going to see these though, and that’s tough as a person who loves the first 2.
Man to be in your 40s and just now realizing that your own personal biases and fandom makes a difference to your viewing experiences? And going to a premier and not realizing that the air there and the experience heightens your viewing experience? This is crazy that Greg felt this way. It’s not a good movie and I wanted it to be. I think many will find it’s fun but the quality of the film is lackluster and the script is horrible. To blame it on expectations is crazy to me - there are too many characters that really drag the movie down. That is a quality issue.
Nick has some truely terrible takes. First action scene should've been done at night? WHY Kumail Nanjiani's performance was stale af. James Acaster brought LIFE to this.
Great premise, just an awful film. Jokes were bad, no action sequences, every plot line relies on convenience, nostalgia bait everywhere Slimer & Finn Wolfhard are pointless, no real sense of peril & it's so predictable.
The 4/10 was justified. As a ghostbusters fan, I found this movie very disappointing. I was baffled by it. I laughed once and saw every element as a mess cobbled together.
I jumped on RT to post a review and because i needed to get it off my chest. But here is my take on this 4/10 easily. I didn't hate it but i was baffled by choices, only giggled when Rudd was on screen and in the end its forgettable. Bad guy is rushed and forgettable. Didn't show up until 20mins left but shows up because of the dumbest decision and plot thread I've ever scene. Literally comes to life because "I'm sad and horny". Every adult in this movie is just awful to Baby Speng aside from Rudd, Mom and Aykroyd. There are 3½ likable people in this movie, Rudd, Mom, Finn and ½ of Aykroyds performance. Rudd and Mom were not used enough, Finn was wasted and 50% of Aykroyd was "i miss the old days" and it worked for In canon and in Reality. The other 50% was "okay how are you supposed to act again? I forgot! " Movie is super bloated and rushed at the same time. So much going on. Could have cut 50%of cast and it would've been better. The main Character is literally told in the beginning of the movie, "Go be a kid please. You don't always get what you want! " So what does she do? She goes out, acts like an adult while being pouty about it, gets horny for a ghost, starts the Apocolypse because "I'm sad and horny" and then gets what she wants in the end!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? That's the literal plot of this movie (one of a hundred by the way). Plot break down 1. Crazy super charge dog toy 2. Ghosts are back 3. Main character too young 4. Rudd figuring out how to be "dad" 5. Finn looking for snack eater 6. Aykroyd on YT 7. Main character sad and horny for ghost 8. Winston starting Corprate GB 9. Kumail a sleeze bag 10. Aykroyd sad about past and future 11. Plot line with chess ghost girl 12. Mayor hates GB 13. Dog ball toy mystery 14. GB shut down and Main told she's stupid 15. NOW BAD GUY IS MAYBE A THREAT 16. "I'm so sad and horny, I'm going to risk my life to bang a ghost even though I'm a super smart teenager who knows better using a machine that doesnt work the way it's supposed to work, because it was explain an hour ago, but worth it, BECAUSE IM A SAD AND HORNY TEEN GIRL" 17. Big bad is allergic to fire but the Proton Packs don't count only the first marshmallows kind of fire counts 18. Kumails sleeze Character is now a fire God, but can't get it up 19. SLIMER IS A PLOT THREAD 20. Ghost containment Unit is Overloaded 21. Future Ghost lover for main character is a turn-coat 22. In super smart girl, that started Apocolypse because "S&H", but I'm smarter than every one again 23. Bad guy needs horns to be even badder 24. Fire God now needs to be better and masters ability in 24hrs 25. We work together Past and future to beat bad guy because of love 26. "WE HAVE SUPER BAD GHOSTS IN NEW FACILITY! BE TERRIBLE IF THEY EVER GOT OUT" *QUE WHACKY MUSIC* That's not a breakdown of the plot, THOSE ARE LITERALLY PLOTS. Not an A,B and C Plot like most movies; not a couple of threads working for a complete narrative, but The entire alphabet of Plot Threads. In the end only watch if you are a GREG MILLER SUPERFAN. Other than that avoid and maybe watch when on streaming someday or but the whole collection at a discount price in 5 years. ALSO PLEASE SO MAKING THESE MOVIES. LET GB DIE AN HONORABLE DEATH!
This was one of the worst movies I have ever watched. Understand Greg is a major fanboy for this and I respect that, That's why people love Greg. When he was a fanboy for BVS which I am too I applauded him. But I cant for this.
As a fan it pains me to say this but I have to be honest - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a bad movie. The film is total a mess. It's boring, poorly paced, confusing, convoluted and overly complicated. There are far too many characters, some of which have been needlessly shoehorned into the story. It's overstuffed with unnecessary dialogue, dull subplots, pointless characters and scenes which go on for far too long. It's not funny either. I didn't laugh once during the movie, and neither did the audience I was watching it with. Neither is it frightening. Laughs and scares are the two things you expect from a Ghostbusters film but this film is completely devoid of any. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan may be talented directors, but they're the wrong people to be writing Ghostbusters films. Afterlife was mediocre at best, but Frozen Empire is just plain bad. With a heavy heart, I rate this film 3 out of 10. I feel a lot of fans are in denial about just how bad this film is.
Hear me out, take james acasters character back to britain. Ghostbusters UK directed by Edgar Wright and starring the actors from hot fuzz. Make it dry adult humor like the first one, and give me some wacky british ghosts in a small historic town.
That would be incredible!
I love it. Greenlit. - Greg
but at the same time open Ghostbusters Korea and get the director of Train to Busan to do a movie starring Logan Kim in Seoul
Timothy Dalton as Slimer? The Hound as Vigo? Olivia Colman as the lead. Chef's kiss.
We have about 30% of that. Truth Seekers is a UK ghost show written by Pegg and Frost.
Lol, they forgot to rank the movie. They gave out ranks but never said where it is.
So, for me, I am not a huge Ghostbusters fan. I haven't necessarily actively disliked any of them (I didn't watch 2016), but none of them really grabbed me either. Had a really good time with this one.
Greg going to his first premiere and realizing that most people at those have rose tinted glasses after experiencing the whole excitement of the evening lol. That's why they hold premieres. To schmooze people.
I get Tim not really caring about the franchise, but surely you can see when a movie is good or bad. Placing Frozen Empire on 1 is wild.
Tim hates older movies
Didn't Greg do the same thing? Why are you only giving Tim shit for it?
This is a solid 7/10 movie. There's a few too many plot holes, but I found the movie incredibly entertaining throughout.
To Miller's point, the Ghostsbusters never had story arcs in the originals, so Phoebe and Gary having arcs in this movie is a Buster Bonus when you actually think about it.
Greg here sounds like me the last 3 years defending Marvel content lol
Greg, just watched this with the family and tbh the 4/10 rating is borderline unhinged. Frozen Empire was a fun movie packed with fun Ghostbusters-on-the-job hijinks. It's a 7/10 for me.
"It's Melody in the diner chair, flicking her thing."
PHRASING
Andy just killing it with that plot song. 🔥 Has to be one of my favorites. 🎸
I've shown my kid all of the Ghostbusters movie. He saw this movie in theaters.I promise you kids love.Stay puff marshmallow man
My biggest problem with the movie is it takes WAY too long to get going. The first 80% of the movie is all setup for the rushed finale. It doesn't really feel like there's an Act 2. I still enjoyed myself but the movie has way too much going on. Should've cut Podcast and Lucky.

I'd put it at 3 behind 1 and Afterlife and ahead of 2 and 2016
2:13:14 Love when someone is able to catch Nick off guard hahaha
I'd put it that this villain is by far the best...at least he does things. Hear me out;
Gozer hangs out on top of an apartment building
Vigo comes out of a picture and makes a baby float
2016 christ knows...
Gozer 2.0 hangs in a field
Where is the Ernest in Review?
In the prologue I took it as the guy w the ball in his hand in the armor was the fire master who had captured Ice Satan just after all the society dudes got ice'd. Thoroughly enjoyed Frozen Empire and thought it was on par with Afterlife with a little less emotional resonance and a lot more laughs. This reimagining of the franchise has me hooked.
So… did it rank as number 4 or number 2?
Yea I was like they never ranked it
I'd say 3 probably since they don't have a majority. So splitting the difference gives us 3.
Slimer was truly so unnecessary. Finn Wolfhard and Slimers scenes should have been cut. They were in their for A) Slimer marketing and B) to give Finn Wolfhard some scenes
I did love how they made Slimer look tho, like he was still animatronic
Tim they are remaking Never Ending Story, time to do an In-Review series on a masterpiece ❤❤❤❤
Winston explained why he didn't want Ray in the lab..... "Golden Years"
I'd completely forgotten that Hemsworth was even in the 2016 film.
He’s the best part 😂
Andy’s intro 🔥 kinda Funny MVP!
Ya’ll really not doing a roadhouse in review?! Like the only movie people are watching/talking about this weekend 😂
No one is talking about Roadhouse 😂
Watching this film, It genuinely baffles me that Ghostbusters is even a franchise.

Ghostbusters movies are money laundering schemes you can’t convince me otherwise
If they had actually killed Lucky in this, people would have complained that Ghostbusters was too serious. "i tHoUgHt gHoStbUsTeRs wAs a CoMedY?!"
The last movie had Egon's death. Obviously the were real life reasons for that, but they didn't have to go that route and the ending is much more touching and less comedic overall too. You can still be funny and kill people off. GotG 2 comes to mind.
imagine them seeing how badly madam web did be the reasoning behind them changing lucky's story
Just watched the movie and just finished the In Review, I was thinking the exact same thing lol I dont think thats how hollywood works but its funny how things line up
Loved the film!
I freaking loved this Movie.... 5/5
I guess I have bad test. I bought it so I can rewatch it. I enjoyed it a lot.
Just a meh movie

If you like James Acasters, don't listen to them! He's great in this, very funny!
He was made to be a weird character for explanation. Couldn’t have been any British actor.
Haven’t watched the video yet, but (Spoilers)
If the plot contrivance of Possessor/Goraka not realizing Podcast made a recording of the chants and if the lighter wasn’t written to have run out of lighter fluid during the fight then Melody would have not had any affect on the plot whatsoever for the baffling amount of screen time she got
I think this is my least favorite opening scene (not bad, just not close to best) because it doesn't end with a punch. We're coming in after it. If it opened with them having dinner, then they release the ghost, all freeze, pan the room everyone is frozen then cue title - way better.
"They talked about the new packs so much" bro they said "new packs" literally once. My god Tim is complaining about the dumbest shit lol
I couldn’t use a box cutter until I was 18, so dumb
I have an important question to those that have seen it. Does Bill Murray show up in this movie? You know like give a good performance or is it just phoned in? Because his line in the trailer gave me hope like we're gonna see a fun Bill Murray here!
When has bill murray not phoned it in😂
@@Mrs.Garrison69 I mean the first Ghostbusters arguably one of his best performances and for the video game I thought he was kind of just there lol
Phoned in for sure.
Wait I didn't get any scary movie trailers lmao. I got The Fall Guy, The Garfield Movie and Spy X Family Code: White
Possessor Ghost stole the show.
Great review guys. Keep up the good work. Greg’s “watch in a red state” comment is one of the most ignorant things I’ve ever heard. Keeping the divide the size of the Grand Canyon. 🤦
The movie was alright but if they’re going to keep making new Ghostbuster movies they need to start getting more creative!
I enjoyed the movie, it was a fun time. Definitely not worse than Madame Web, its ridiculous that it even got a score above a 3 lol

This movie was utter trash! So boring and not at all funny. The only redeeming thing was the visual effects.
Frozen Empire was a mess.
At least Ghostbusters (2016) had jokes… bad jokes, but jokes!
This was simply a boring movie, period... 4/10 sounds about right
