Great video. This is my home park, I always heard that the owner’s wife wanted the ride removed after the incident, I’ve seen a few newspaper articles about the accident, but I never saw anything about aftermath or investigations. I also always heard that the man who passed, got up to calm his hysteric sister (or something like that), after the train started valleying on the bridge, but him standing up to see if another train was coming, seems much more likely, I never thought about that scenario, but it makes way more sense. I believe the only surviving picture (that is known) of the ride is that one picture of it going over peninsula drive. Very well researched video!
Basically every summer me and the family and my cousins go to Waldamer but before our trip I looked up what happened to ravine flyer 1. To my surprise Somone died on the ride. But I still went in ravine flyer 2 hehe
Ravine Flyer 3 is also it's own mini-mystery. It was built in the park 8 years before Ravine Flyer 2 existed, so by all means it should be 2. But I had a different name before, only being branded with 3 after RF2 was built. Why?
The voiceover refers to this ride as "smooth." I regret to say that is no longer the case. I rode it last Friday (7/23/21), and it was disappointingly rough. I've been riding woodies for over 50 years, so I know whereof I speak. It's too bad, as it has a great track layout.
The original Ravine Flyer was built before the road was put in. The bridge was somewhat hastily designed and even today would be a near impossible engineering challenge but was an inadequate structure.

@@johnd5931 A roller coaster being wood or steel depends on the makeup of the track bedding. A roller coaster with steel track is steel. A wood coaster has wood track bed, usually layered, with steel railing for the wheels.

I rode it once with my dad and both of us said that it was rough. I didn't like it at all...
Excellent historical review of one of eries best legends
The word smooth and ravine flyer don’t go in the same sentence 💀
Mom always told me about “the accident” seeing we lived there.
I’m going to that amusement park and I went to that in July 2022
0:10 Six Flags Dance😂😂😂
Ya know I leave in Erie and a worker told me the accident on the Ravine Flyer
To me it just makes more sense to have a hill over the road like an actual bridge rather tgan a dip

“Overall smooth track” my ass. RF2 beat the shit out of me
It felt quite smooth to me. Well, as smooth as any wooden coaster can be. 🤷♂️
@@johnd5931 I’ve been on a lot of wooden coasters and that was one of the roughest ones I’ve been on to date. Same with wildcat at hershey
Hey I was just there
Me too! Oh my gosh..!
what's a credit?
1 rollercoaster = 1 credit
It's for every roller coaster you ride. An it only counts if it's not a duplicate.
Ravine flyer 3 opened before 2 did

lost my phone on this ride, not a fun time
It’s a wood coaster, not a “hybrid.” Great video, though.
Wood coaster, steel track.
