Dude....it's so crazy you posted this. Cause we can hear artists singing voice for years, but when we hear their speaking voice it's usually much different than you might expect. Like Sadé for instance. She obviously has a really powerful and beautiful singing voice but in interviews her speaking voice is barely above a whisper. It's funny how that works. Larry B. always came across as a cool brother, lots of great music from Cameo over the years 💪🏾💪🏾
I wish Larry would make a major come back and could be as relevant as he was back then now , the music industry needs legitimate artist like this now more than ever before!
Wow! I Love This Interview And I Love Me Some Cameo! Man They Had Some Tuff Ass Funky Beats Back In Da Day! Mr Blackmon I Salute You Thank You For The Funk That You Have Giving Us To Get Down To!
I'm British and they did appear on Top of The Pops codpiece and all doing Word Up in fact it's widely recognized as one of those classic ToTP moments in the UK up there with Bowie's debut in 72 and The Sex Pistols in 77, Probably some controversy behind the scenes with some suited old wanker but it was definitely broadcast in 86.
I did not realise how softly spoken Larry is. When I first heard this on Top Of The Pops, aged 13, the next day, we all asked ‘I wonder if he talks like that, too?” Fast forward four years, the song and Larry’s scandalous outfit influenced me so much, I attended an ‘underground club’ in London, (un)dressed in only a shiny red codpiece, adapted from a boxer’s groin guard. I knew the Dj, Tina and she specially put this track on for me - I had memorised most of Mr. Blackmon’s moves. I ended up with a lady begging her flatmate to drive the two us to their flat half an hour later.😈 Thank you Mr. Blackmon for not only a legendary song, but for enabling one of the fondest memories I have. Bows*
Its kind of unfortunate that Cameo seems to have become more famous for Larry Blackmon's codpiece and flattop haircut than for their significant contributions to Dance music, Funk in particular. Also overlooked are Larry skills as a drummer, composer, producer, bandleader, businessman, and artistic visionary. He's a bad dude.
@@darhyllacy3671 Right their best stuff was between the late 70s and mid 80s and the word up era was they crossed over to pop market and wayne cooper and tomi jenkins vocals is what sold the ballads that what was missing from the late 80s cameo they crossed to pop and lost the r&b funk market the same thing with kool and the gang to some extent
With music the sound changes so to make a come back would assume radio play ,& exposure to have a mainstream buzz & create a new sound. I believe alot of artist got caught in that vacuum. If anybody Larry is creative enough to make a comeback. A lot of those artist just tour & make money off doing thier old hits.
Everyone remembers WORD UP! "...try to put on those aires, and act real cool, but you gotta realize that they're acting like fools...no romance, no romance, no romance for me maaama, come on baby tell me what's the word, ah word up!"
I can't believe how soft-spoken and low key he was during the interview. So different than on stage. He was so sweet with Joan. Nice
:)
Yeah, Michael Jackson is the same way off stage.
Mr. Blackmon - a too-often overlooked GENIUS indeed! Bless!
It's funny I heard Blackmon sing but I never hear him talk before lol

He's also a great drummer, writer, & producer.
So gentle and soft spoken. ❤✊🏿
Prime time Larry the legend Blackmon!
Hey man, Cameo was one of the best groups of the late 70’s and into the 80’s and still my favorite, Larry Blackmon Rocks!😊
After hearing him sing all these years, who would have thought that he speaks like this...very profound...
Iit's not like he was a gangster rapper so it shouldn't be surprising that Larry speaks good English.
Who’s still rockin’ with Cameo in 2021? I’m catching their show in LA in September 🎸
Cameosis..FOREVER ❤
OHH - I LOVE THIS MAN - ONE OF THE MOST MUSICAL MEN ON THE PLANET
I wish Larry would make a major come back and could be as relevant as he was back then now , the music industry needs legitimate artist like this now more than ever before!
They still tour well until 2019 they were
I saw him perform last night.
Definitely. Music industry literally forbids new artists from hanging with the vets , don’t want them schooling them to the game .
i've never heard larry blackmon speak. lol

Nothing like that funky sound of that good old Cameosis. 😎
Saw them @New Paltz before they blew up. Shit was WILD....
He seems down to earth.

David McGinnis Hell no. I love the 'stache.

Joan was an asshole who won't be missed, racist, classist. Blackmon's legend, one of the best!
I tried calling 1800 babe, to see if I could get a Larry lookalike codpiece and all but they just laughed at me and hung up.
Cool

Quite a few people don't realize that their best work came before the word up album.

Yeah Larry I’m about to bring back cod pieces
R.I.P. Joan Rivers!
WOW JOAN DIDN'T GET AS NASTY AS I ASSUMED SHE WOULD ABOUT DAT COD PIECE.
Joan rivers is a POS, hated her, glad she's dead!
Where can I get Larry's outfit, the boots, bodysuit, and cod piece , it is hot???? Help !
He worked with a certain designer that gave him that look ,forgot his name but it's custom !
Not to pigeon hole him, but he seems so familiar because he has elements, pun intended, of EWF lead Philip Bailey and late actor Howard E. Rollins.
I love them because they love men like myself does 🤔🤭🧐😮💨🤩🤠😂🤣

Larry Blackmon must of rented his mustache from the _Easy Rider_ store.
OWWWWWW
Larry seems so nervous
lol funniest outfit ever
Nate dogg got his style from him
He indeed does not sound like he sings… I was hoping he sounded more like how he sings. But dude was player for sure…no pun intended.
Joan being "thirsty"...in a Jewish way! Lol
I take it ya'll are older folk. CAUSE AIN'T NO WAAY!! I'D WANT TO GET A PIECE OF THAT!!
Exactly discussion
Howard Rollins could've played Larry. Just saying
Those red coats have always been big time jerks...
The proper use of the language is probably a dead giveaway, huh?
Joan was a hottie... But Larry kept it gansta
Yeeeah, whatever.
Joan really was quite da hottie.
Tsk!! Ah'm stoppin all these thoughts rite now!
