The hyd oil in their shocks is heavier, to compensate for track use, heat, and will "normalize" in that usage. Monotube shocks have greater resistance. And the spring rates are high, for track use. You were correct in going softer in the rears. For street comparison, 7K is 394lbs. which is recommended for a cast iron BBC & probably auto transmission. Remember the C5/C6 are split transaxles, helping to equalize weight. And a 10K rear is about 550lbs, which is what Penske runs front and rear for SPEC racing. So, 10K for the street , which is BC's stock spr. rate for the DS rear, is why it skipped around on you. So even 6K/4K with correct oil, valving, and adjustment will still need break-in, tuning and driving, to know how it does and where you want to go from there. Regarding power under acceleration and braking; for a lighter 3150ish coupe, that's less than the old SBC cars, and distribution factor...It's just not exactly a street/track shock; that's very subjective.
So detailed in your explanation I presume you're extremely well read into the subject of suspension. Which leads me into my question, I am currently trying to do research on coilovers for a 2008 acura tl type s I have no idea what kind of spring rate I need or what some decent priced quality coilovers would be, I am repeatedly confused in research into the matter, would you be so gracious as to help me?
As always, nice comments regarding your product review. I have a set of the BS coilovers that came with the car and whole hearted agree are not the best coilovers in my opinion, yes an upgrade over the leafsprings, but not by much. In the process of setting the car up for autocrossing and the guys are running either JRZ or JRi coilovers, hjgh dollar equipment at $5k - $6K a set, so I'm not at that capability to justify those costs. I was on the horn with the tech guys at BC Racing and they recommended I purchase the DS shock body re-valved and swap out the stock springs to the swift and I should see a marked improvement from what I have. I'll be running BC's new forged wheels as well, 18 x 11 and 18 x 13 with the BFG Rival - S , 315/30 - 335/30, which is what most of the guys run in the CAM - S class. You should come on out and we can compare notes !
Thank you for your honest, indepth opinion. I to had linear BC coilovers in my Datsun 240Z and I did not like them, of course way better than stock but I know there is better. Anyways the 130k miles on my C6 is telling me the current suspension needs an upgrade. I too daily drive mine and after talking to a few other guys I may go the route of Fortune Auto. I've been in a few that have had the 510 series and they can be adjusted to ride a lot softer than stock and stiffened to run the track which is nice but yeah comes with a price point.
Thank you for taking a look at the video, glad it helped. Fortune autos are great from what I've heard so i doubt you can go wrong with them. Sway bars are a great upgrade as well while you are there
I am running digressive valved Bilstein coilovers. They transform the car. I can take RR tracks at BMW speed without getting beat up, but still way better body control.
Sorry to hear your experience. I have BC s . I have used standard ones on Bmw s and on Mx5 . All excellent. I now have digressives on my rocketeer Mx5 and they are superb both on road an track. Sometimes expecting kit to improve things isn’t the way to go. Get on track get some lessons and learn to drive what you have
Where I live and the asphalt twisty roads I drive, I would die judging by your video. I think im just going to upgrade my sways to get rid of some of the roll and keep the leaf springs and zo6 dampers
I'd suggest better dampers then the z06 delcos, they really lack rebound damping imo. Not sure why you would think you'd die lol, its a lot better than stock especially in the twisties in terms of compressive stroke and body control. The rear end stock is pretty vague and scary imo.
Hey great video.. question i have a c5. I'm 57yrs old but i do like to have fun with the car but mostly drive to the beach highway rides but i do live in the country winding rds. Do u think i should install a good coilover. Or just a nice shock? Can you reccomend one if so? Thank u
Was thinking about getting these for my 2003 Z06, my front leaf spring is delaminating so I figured I would go with some basic coilovers instead of the leafs
What was your experience like the first time you bought FA coilovers? I’m researching BC coilovers and Fortune Autos reviews right now to determine which ones people are happier with.
When I was younger it was always eibach springs, strut tower braces and sway bars. Now I was thinking of buying the DS series for a step up but I’m not sure if it’s that much better. Should I spend the extra money on the DS coil overs or stick with what I always did in my youth? It is a daily driver but I do plan on an occasional track day and a healthy amount of backroad twisty running.
Very good review. Someone talking sense for a change 👍

hi speed and low speed are not referring to vehicle speed...........

I think I am going to buy fortune auto coilovers again

Is it worth getting the swift springs?

properly set up coilovers will allow you to set the car how you want, if you are doing track days they will likely help you out quite a bit.
Track time?
