My mum's family were fishermen in Whitby and wore guernseys as a matter of tradition. I have never thought who knit them for them. Love that part of North Yorkshire.
Thank you for your comment.Yes, when you are younger, you don't think of things that you know would be now be of interest. It is a lovely area. We are spoilt with the sea and moor. 😊
So glad to have found your channel! Wow, such beautiful scenery as well as the knitting and interview - thank you so much for sharing ❤ Thank you to Deb also! Going to catch up on some of your previous episodes
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I am pleased you enjoyed the vlog. I hope you enjoy some of the episodes. They show the knitting of a guernsey from the beginning to completion. There are a few little trips around my local area.😊
these patterns were made for people who did not have time to have a nervous breakdown. funniest piece of wisdom on the entire internet. thank you so much!
I really enjoyed what the lovely Lady Deb was speaking about and totally understood her no nonsense way of knitting. I like the fact that Ganseys do not need any shaping either! I have that book too which I bought and have been very interested in knitting this as I am a knitter too. Also married to a Cornish lol here in Australia. Thank You for sharing. This lady has clearly inspired me more.
Fascinating. You’re lucky to live close to the exhibit. Imagine the total knitting hours that were in that room. I hadn’t thought about the patterns needing to be easy enough so they didn’t have to fuss with their knitting.
Yes, it was a wonderful exhibition. Actually once you get into the rhythm, they are easy to knit but are time consuming. I know, I hadn't thought about the knitting hours. The skill of those knitters. They were incredibly neat. 😊
This is such a wonderful channel. I started a guernsey last year and stopped just before the gussets. It has been so wonderful watching you grappling with the trials and tribulations. you give me hope to get back to mine. Looking forward to next week when you show us your knits.
Love this! Thank you so much for sharing! Gonna have to get myself down there next year if the exhibition is on again. So inspired to give this a try ❤
Thank you for your kind comment. Yes, you need to go because you will definitely be inspired. There was a lady at the exhibition today when I went to collect my guernsey and she was buying the yarn and needles to knit a guernsey. She was looking at the ones on display and she chose a pattern that she liked and was going to copy that. You get drawn to certain patterns. Plus Deb is so helpful and knowledgeable. 😊
I've just started watching your series memorializing your gansey journey. It's wonderful! I'm a beginner /intermediate knitter (at 69 yrs old, but in good health and feel much younger) and after a couple of simple sweaters, I've decided to knit a gansey. I've ordered three cones of Frangipani. May I ask how many hours you think you put in to this beautiful sweater. I heard you say 14 weeks, but how many hours per day? Just wondering. I'm not too concerned about how long it may take because the hours will go by anyway and I will enjoy the journey. But I also want to stay focused and have a somewhat realistic goal to the finish line so I don't wander and turn this into a 20 year project! Please keep recording your knitting projects, they are so helpful and wonderful! 😊
What a wonderful message. It is excellent that you are in good health so there is nothing to stop you. Once you know your pattern you will be surprised at how easy it is because there isn't any shaping to do. I hope you asked for a free pattern from Frangipani because that is what I used and it was so helpful. I added a pattern at the chest area and that could be as simple as a moss stitch or a similar variation. I wished I had done a few lines of pearl to distinguish the bottom from the pattern at the chest area. I actually do know how long the guernsey took because I recocorded how long I spent on it in a notebook. On average I spent about 2 hours each day (due to other commitments) but I recorded it accurately each day and in total it was 190 hours. I will do my best to record my knitting projects. Enjoy your journey. Let me know how you get on. 😊
Thank you! This type of tour and interview are what I love. You did a fabulous job with interview. I’m sure each knitter had their own personal connection to the craft. I now have a little connection to the craft, people and place that developed and used the gurnsey in their daily lives. I’d love to hear the stories of the crafters and fishermen whose lives were knitted into the fabric.💗💗
Yes, it would be interesting to hear about the crafters and fishermen but unfortunately, I don't know of any that are here to tell their stories. I wish I had asked my great aunts and uncles but when you are young you don't have the wisdom of asking and now too late. 😊

What a great interview. The exhibition looked fab too. Would you consider coming up with your own pattern for your grandson?
Thank you. Yes, I probably will.😊
