    Great footage, but I don't mean to put a dampener on it but the in cockpit footage is from 2018 or 2017 as the RAN vessel off the Opera House this year was HMAS CHOULES. The vessel you can see from the cockpit footage is either HMAS CANBERRA or HMAS ADELAIDE. A completely different ship.

    Although Australia do not operate any aircraft carriers, but since they fly naval aircraft, I’m just wondering if Australian FA18 pilots train for carrier qualification using simulator or on exchange with the US Navy?

    • @MeppyMan
      @MeppyMan 4 роки тому +1

      Estelle Melodi Mitchell while the F/A-18 was developed for the US Navy and Marine Corps, and are carrier capable, that doesn’t mean they are limited to that use by other forces.
      So no I do not believe RAAF pilots do any carrier training as they wouldn’t ever have the need to. However it a pilot were to somehow transfer or get a role flying for the US Navy and had to do carrier operations then they would get the training then.
      Carrier landings, takeoffs and manoeuvres require a whole different set of skills and abilities and not all pilots are capable.
