Hi Alexi. I have a completed feature genre film with a name actor as the lead. He has a Hollywood agent. Would it be a good idea to get his agent to shop my film, or should I just approach different sales agents myself?
You could go either way. If the agent has specific relationships then it's a good idea for them to pitch the film for you or provide an introduction. But if they are going in cold then you may as well do it yourself
AFM is a big film market in USA. Toronto is a festival.
Thanks for this advise! In the case that the film is in principle photography would you suggest sending a sizzle reel in the initial email? And in the large email, would you bcc the addresses or send using a different method? Thanks Alexi
You could send a sizzle/teaser, aim for 30-60 seconds. But it's not required. Send directly, don't bulk email with BCC. I use a software called Yesware to send direct email campaigns from within Gmail
@@AlexiOuzas awesome advice. Thank you!
Can you tell me the correct spelling of the paid website you're referencing? I put in Cenando and nothing came up.
Cinando
I thought you said that a Sales Agent or Distributor wouldn't consider a film that was made for under $700k. correct? Its still a mystery on how to put together a lookbook or a finance plan.
It's harder to attach them during the financing stage when they budget is anywhere from $0 to around $500k. However, if you complete the film the budget is irrelevant because the film is judged on its merits.
@@AlexiOuzas ok, so you're saying complete the film and then look for a sales agent or distributor?
@@TheButchBerryCompany if your budget is in that range and you can finance it yourself, yes.
"High quality product" is over stated. A film has to absolutely look and sound professional but it can be less than high quality when it comes to the screenplay as long as it fits the genre and conforms to market expectations.
Some truth to that, though a bad script is hard to get around. I do agree that films that fit genre and conform to expectations can still perform. But a high quality film that also does that will outperform
@@AlexiOuzas sure but I have seen films with bad scripts sell to Netflix.
