This game was ahead of it's time, would be truly refreshing in todays market

It really was and it does a lot more than what we get with current games released nowadays. I'm astonished that most people who I talk to about this game have never played it. I think the reason why this game wasn't successful or for people not knowing about it is because it was released at the same time as the very first Fallout. It surprises me that this game from 1997 has a branching narrative and you can advance the story in multiple ways. I do wish that this game gets a remake in the future but the chances of that ever happening are slim. If you ever get the opportunity to play this game definitely give it a go!

Man I got stuck at the exact same spot with the black/white game as you guys when I was younger. You had to give up a weapon each time you lost and I eventually just lost everything and gave up.

You experienced exactly what I did when I was younger. I had to do this a few times while playing through the game again this year but then I realised that the black and white game is not required to move forward with the story.

I've looked up Nightmare Creatures 2 after your comment and it looks a lot like Bloodborne. I'll definitely look at picking this game up in the future and giving it a go!

I remember playing the demo when I was 12 and it blew my mind that I could attack anybody and aggro them. I also loved the voice acting and will never forget Provost Dhorkan and Zed. You've inspired me to play it again on dosbox, because last time I tried it crashed every 5 minutes. I also uploaded one of the first videos of this to youtube ages ago because there weren't any.

Besides the graphics, this game is phenomenal and I am still shocked that this game was released in 1997 because of how ambitious it was back then. I'm hoping that people who watch this video and have never played it before decide to give it a go because it truly is a masterpiece lost in time. Thank you for watching!

I would say since replaying through Dark Earth and after playing many modern day titles I can confirm that I would consider this one of my favourite games of all time too.

Omg I definitely played this game. This game was great as a kid and I havent returned to it because memory served it had tank controls ontop of Resident evil style screen movement.

      That sounds... painful 😅
But it looks manageable though. It would be great if someone took on the IP or did a remake of it.
Heck if i can get it running in windowed mode, I'd love to try my hand on it (

I actually revisited the original Resident Evil for the snippet of gameplay at the start of the video and I found that Dark Earth's tank controls to be a lot more innovative in comparison but I will admit that the combat is still challenging even with the improved tank controls. Tank controls to one side I think Dark Earth is still worth playing so you can experience how far ahead this game was for its time. This game does a lot of aspects much better than what we get in games released nowadays. I'm so happy I went on to produce this video since it's great to see more people remember this age old masterpiece. Thank you for watching.

Unfortunately this game is not available on Steam or GOG. I had to use DOSBOX to play this game and it performed flawlessly with no issues whatsoever. I highly recommend Dark Earth and if you do end up playing this classic title you are in for a phenomenal experience.

@@BaileyPoints Oh I own a physical copy from childhood. My dad bought it for me actually along with System Shock 2 and RedGuard. Its one that I constantly remembered but I couldnt remember the name. I would keep calling it "Dark Sun" Which is the D&D campaign about a dead world.

@@BaileyPoints So the game I definitely think people should check out but dont remember at all is Ecstatica 1 & 2. Those games are also like this. Innovative but completely forgotten to time.
