    I felt compelled to watch this and it brought back bad memories of my own escape from a monster. My friend Kim and I (7&8) decided to climb a fence and take a look at an old mans exotic bird aviary. He caught us and locked us in his house. He told us that he was going to tell our parents and call the police and that we would go to jail. He told us how our parents wouldn't love us anymore. He gave us an ultimatum which seemed the only way out was for us to strip and well he went a lot further fully molesting us. He let us go when we cried and screamed. We ran for our lives half naked. Kim wanted me to go back and get our clothes and I said I'm never going there again. I think we both snuck home and changed. We never told our parents about it but it brought back the memories. He was considered to be a very nice man and unfortunately friends with my parents who always invited him over to our house for meals. I used to hide in my room, my folks used to say how unkind I was. I should have told them but quite frankly I doubt that they would have believed me. That was in the early 70s. The only good thing is that he is dead now.

      As a 6-year old (in 1954) a young man stepped out of his garden gate as my friend and I were cycling past on our tricycles and asked us if we wanted some sweets. I said Yes but my friend disappeared. He took me into the outside toilet at the bottom of his garden and closed the door. It was very dark so he said he'd get his matches out of his pocket so he could find the sweets. He put something in my hand and asked me to hold it while he found his matches. It was soft and warm and he started jumping up and down and I could hear the matches rattling in his pocket. Then the thing in my hand started to get bigger and hard ... and I got really scared and started screaming as loud as I could. He opened the door, pushed me out into the garden and I opened the gate, jumped onto my trike and pedalled home as fast as my little legs would carry me. I never told my parents (a) because I was told never to speak to strangers and (b) I didn't really understand what had happened -- I just knew that I'd never been so frightened in all my short life.

    As a 70's baby, It's incredible to witness the antiquated views, ideas and resolutions as it relates to molestation. Unfortunately, those of us born after those earlier generations paid the cost and spent a small fortune on mental health care to deal with the after affects. One fact I made sure to do is to speak with your children openly about everything, and parents validate their thoughts!

    Yes, thank you for uploading this! And a Hammer production to boot, makes me appreciate even more! Wow, such a current example of what horrifyingly continues today and in a wider scope of abuses. Exampling how all communities, at every level must be held responsible. This includes 'transparency', no more secrets, no further suppression of 'whistle blowers' (especially our little peoples/children including older persons 'remembering' and needing to reveal their experiences. Without continued denial/suppression, further trauma.

His family moved away. What say about a small town is true. People talk and it can be cruel. I had a couple good friends back then. Im still friends with 1 of them. The others is no longer living.

    The strange thing is that when such behaviours are revealed and harms are done, the very first reaction is to want to cover wrong-doing up. This is almost instinctive with adults. If we hide it, it will go away. The next thing is to blame the victim as though the victim was the cause of the trouble.
    Only after that will people come to terms with the truth.

    • @pipfox7834
      @pipfox7834 День тому +1

      @margyeoman3564 what I have noticed that's reflexive behaviour with adults confronted by ANY uncomfortable truth: sweep it away, diminish it somehow, act like it doesn't matter. It's as much about dealing with their own personal discomfort, pushing it away as fast as possible by minimising the problem.

Imagine my surprise when I heard the child say, "We took off all our clothes." I had to tell my 16 year old daughter all about it! I did notice though a few English accents.
    Hammer production at Bray studios UK.
    The end sequence looks like Black Park with the small lake, near Pinewood studios Buckinghamshire.

      The Carter family are new immigrants in this story. All the other characters appear to be stable Canadians. The power imbalance in local affairs is something I've often seen shown in American films and occasionally in historical British films (set in earlier reigns than the monarch cited here as QE2).
