Good movie. I found online that Steve worked as an EMT in Las Vegas, and wanted to be a doctor. He passed away in 2002 at the age of 30 (born in '71). He is survived by his wife Tandi, son Steven, parents Randi and Alan and sister Shari. Cause of death isn't listed.

Now, this was a good movie. It was a very good ending. 👍 thank you for your good performances, the struggles, and the good news that the family came back together, stronger and wiser. Love conquers and endures forever.❤
Everyone wants "old Steve" instead of accepting reality because they're incredibly selfish! The family is torturing him instead of appreciating that he's alive. I found this film very sad with moments too heartbreaking to watch. Did they love him or just the idea of him?
I think they were fighting to get him back, get him well, but not necessarily the right ways. Being a parent isn't easy. It doesn't come with a manual and we all make mistakes. Fortunately things got better. A happy ending is always a blessing that comes with effort and trials.
This is exactly what I was thinking! The family went about things all the wrong ways! Selfish A holes! The mom was the worst! All that wanting to be perfect came crashing down and she didn't know how to accept it. As a mother, a switch just clicks no matter what condition your child is in.

Pretty good, but WAY, WAY too long. Would've been much better if some scenes had been cut by half, they went on so long they nearly put me in a coma. Terri Garr was such a great actress, really got into the characters she portrayed and gave them such depth and humanity.
A beautiful movie, thanks for posting. If this ever happened to my son, I'd have to do the same, and have a memorial for the son I lost, and welcome the new person as a son I had yet to raise. I think this character would do well to pick out a new name too, and that would help the parents to see him as a new son, not the one they lost.
Why not accept reality? Life is full of unexpected surprises; some of which we will appreciate and some that we won't. You love your children no matter what. It's healthier to accept the fact that their son has changed... but it's the same son they've always loved! There are no guarantees in life and shit happens to every family. Deal with it!
Kinda cheezy but it tugged at the ole heart strings and I felt nothing but compassion and empathy for Steve when he was trying so hard and everyone was down on him And unfortunately this world is sick and mistreat alot of amazing people
@my3pups it's only human for her insisting him graduate with his class? When he's lost most of how to do childhood milestones? Yelling at him stevestevesteverandymymother?
I want to preface my comment by saying that, I am fully aware that this is just a film. However, I feel the need to comment on the rubbish that they are pedalling. I don't believe they attended his "high school graduation," at all. Mainly because, the portrayal of Steve, throughout this film (which was released 30+ years ago,) does not support any kind of argument that he was, in any way capable of attaining this goal. A lot has changed regarding "traumatic brain injuries," since then. Retrograde amnesia is not the same as a traumatic brain injury that permanently disables the brain. Just an observation, Cheers.
So they obviously love and value him more than his sister. Thry both leave the house overnight and tend to him in the hospital. Come back home and he's on the couch. Girl comes in, we haven't been introduced and apparently she has no idea of what transpired last night. So in case she woke up with them all gone , they didnt leave a note or anything??? And apparently, she didn't question him being on the couch so thats a thing in the house.
The mother and the sister is low value women in this movie. I only continued watching...to find out if Steve would get his memory back. However, if i had children or a sin like Steven...I would accept him and love him simply because he survived the accident.😢
Sad. There torturing the poor kid. Some stuff doesent seem to make sense but i guess old film, so old ideas? Like how people usedta think you could cure homosexuality, false science proven as such. The family is in denial and thinking more how it effects them, not the boy, as if its HIS fault. HARD yes but hes the one suffering most, they need to be more empathetic

I am sure the doctor ‘would emotionalise’ their son’s condition if it were her son. Compassion helps ease and heal. Shame on that cold hearted doctor.

I wondered too if they had a technical advisor, some of the way those in medical roles acted and spoke didn't ring true.
